I had my doubts it was Michael until he did the moonwalk.
I had similar doubts regarding Neil Armstrong.
@@rickrose5377 Niel Armstrong was the first singer songwriter on the moon.
@@alanwakeish
He's bad, Stephen.
It didn't do the moonwalk at all. He did the treadmill walk.
973 people never watched the video. I am sure the numbers will rise.
It's not just the clothes and the accent, but the unmistakably Fry phrasings, e.g. "Nigh on" that are hard to picture coming from Jackson. Brilliant.
"Sham-on" on the other hand...
'I was 8 yrs old for goodness sake. I mean we've all changed'.
Comedy gold.
The best of the sketch
Exactly what I was about to say, but I see you slid into the comments slightly before me.
I absolutely love how they aren't even trying to imitate him.
They somehow manage to make the sketch funnier than it would have been if they'd tried harder lol
What do you mean 'imitate him'? It's him!
I love the devious look on Hugh Laurie's face just before Stephen starts dancing. For some reason, I'm so sure that he was the one who forced Stephen to do it. hahaha
and stephen gladly wanted to do it and did it well.
Stephen? Sorry, but I think you're mistaken. That was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
🤣
@@cycoholic💀
I have never seen Michael Jackson dance as well as this before.
this is not MJ
Yeah me neither. I still love his dancing though. Haha I guess you could call me his number one fan. I even have a couple of his iconic suit jackets in my wardrobe.
Sarah Unchained and I have a lot of srickers of him, plus,a HUGE poster
Michael Jackson can do an amazing Stephen Fry impersonation...
@@ΚατερίναΚαλαφάτη-ε6π Of course it's Michael. How dare you say such a thing. You must be one of those Michael Jackson haters.
16 years after posting, it sweeps in on my timeline. Thank you!
me too
Holy crap! Only when reading your comment did I go back and realize this was posted 16 years ago!
I thought I was going crazy, because I was sure Michael had died years ago
"I was eight years old, for goodness' sake, I mean... we all change!!" LOL!!!!!!
That was the best bit haha
It's true. The difference between picture and Mr Jackson in the interview was clear as ink: receding hairline, a bigger nose and earlobes, a bit flabby around the jowls and so on...
The camera panning to Stephen on the treadmill during the dance never gets old.
I love how Stephen can portray anyone without even bothering to dress up or do a fake accent!
I was about to say that 😅
The modern day "man of a thousand faces."
What do you mean? It's MJ!
@@aditigupta9930Exactly!😅
Wow, what's so great about this sketch is that in those days it was really quite a small-time show. It's really cool they managed to get Michael Jackson to come on!
Hugh Laurie is so serious that I actually expected MJ to appear. As a foreigner, I have never seen this show, of course.
I like how Michael Jackson has a pure british accent.
There's no such thing as a pure British accent.
We all change
Ahh yes the "British accent"
@@jimbo_1312
You’re saying it’s not British?
@@LesserMoffHootkins no... I'm saying there's no such thing as a "British" accent
Those two. Comedic genius at its finest. :)
This was 1990, second series. Between MJ's Bad and Dangerous, going through his tweed phase.
IThinkYouLookLarvely Weren't we all?
IThinkYouLookLarvely: Just a tiny correction for those with Yorkshire roots. It’s not “tweed” we’re now more up to date. You have two words there, t’ weed, it may seem to be just one but “we” know, he is saying ‘the weed’.
I was such a fan. I remember I bought a plaid jacket.
@@rickrose5377 That's nothing. This is embarrassing to admit, but...I was such a big fan I affected an English accent in middle school. *shudders*
Was this promoting his "Do Be Careful" album?
Its amazing to think that Michael Jackson's management had such foresight for MJ to be interviewed by the future "House" star Hugh Laurie !
love the treadmill moonwalk,classic
I wasn't sure it was Michael Jackson till i listened to the lyrics of the song, which use the word "girl" repeatedly. Michael loved to use that word in many of his songs over the years, it was one of his many trademarks. Girl crazy he was.
If only there were more occasions where we could see Stephen Fry dance.
TranscendentLion What on earth are you talking about? That's clearly the King of Pop himself!
Ethan Macdonald Sorry, I get them easily confused.
Ethan Macdonald exactly! It's a shame Fry didn't get a part
oh please not that! 😂😂😂 I do think he is a genius but his talent does not lie in dancing😃
This is one of my favourite comedy sketches! it becomes so much funnier knowing Stevey Fry hates dancing :D
That's MJ!
If you look real closely at around 2:50 you can tell that isn't actually Michael Jackson.
Good eye!
blueoystercultforevs Oh my God, you moron, can't you see you're being trolled? If you listen closely, you can hear Hugh at 0:15 address the man as 'Micheal'. Now he MAY do an... OKAY... Stephen Fry impression, but that's just part of the gag. That's the REAL Micheal Jackson, and you'd have to be a complete IDIOT not to see it. DON'T FEED THE TROLL, PEOPLE! Joshuaoha is just being a stupid little troll, I mean seriously, how can you be this gullible?!
2:08 They even ZOOM IN on his trademark moonwalk on that elevated platform! Seriously, how can you people be this THICK?!
Shun the nonbeliever! Shun!
If you look really closely at your comment, you'll see that you have no comedic ability or originality whatsoever and need to stop trying so hard to get the appreciation of random strangers on the internet.
I'm a random stranger, and you have my appreciation!
To have even come up with a premise like this was pure brilliance on behalf of Fry & Laurie!!
I'm watching this during a lecture...it was a mistake but it was totally worth it!
The way he walks on that treadmill is so very funny
It's one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Fry is a god.
Knowing what we know now about Mr Fry and dancing, the last 30 seconds of this clip reminded me of the importance of making sacrifices for my art.
I'm a huge MJ fan and I love this - Fry and Laurie are so funny! :D
Me too, this show comedian is real funny.
This has to be one of the funniest sketches these two have done. And I love them all. Cried laughing... Stephen's dance... every kid is copying his look. yeah right!! hahaha
I haven't stopped laughing at this sketch since I was 25 😂 Stephen's weird head bobble when he spins around is comedy gold.
If only the BBC released Move It On Out, Girl as a novelty single.
I unironically love Move It On Out, Girl and wished it was a full song, like Fur Q's Uzi Lover.
better then loads of money by harry enfield
“You’ve been in the music business for… well, most of your life?”
“Nigh on!”
Brilliant 😂
I actually died when they showed the treadmill 😂
The treadmill bit kills me every time :')
Imagine being an audience and thought for a moment that they are actually meeting MJ
What do you mean? They did meet MJ
I love how people like Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson make light of the "playuhh" thing which tends to take itself far too seriously.
Just amasing, I was a bit down and I almost cried from laughing. They are true artists indeed, a great pair!
Can we just appreciate how these two came up with a comedy skit about a black artist without getting into a blackface scandal. Brilliantly done!
Aaah yes, happy days before twitter etc existed.
I can imagine if this sketch came out now, somehow, some people would be offended and call it racist.
Nooo, it's just a surreal parody.
There is another fry and laurie episode in which Stephen Fry "dances". Even more hilarious IMHO.
+Grant Hurlburt Isn't that the piano one where he also sings?
'Dance-a-sise'
Jim Ashton
Danc-ercise, a cross between the words dance, and circumcise 😄
Love that body..!
Thanks...it's mine..!
@Lxxx MXXX You really shouldn't factually- correct someone commenting on part of a satire show, when you aren't entirely familiar with the material. Because it's a good bet they're quoting a joke from the show and you'll look like a bit of a noodge.
Stephen Fry: The key to "dancersize," is the rather ingenious coupling of the word "dance," to the word "circumcise."
ua-cam.com/video/aZUU31kHrnw/v-deo.html
Also, to the greater thread topic, Stephen danced several times on the series., most notable at the end of every episode in Series 3 and 4, when Hugh would play piano and make trombone-like sounds while Stephen mixed a "signature cocktail" while wielding a martini shaker and dancing around in a deliberately doofus-like manner. This followed him requesting of Hugh, "Please, Mr. Music, will you play?"
It’s definitely the most accurate parody on MJ ever😂❤
I've still got my Irish thorn-proof.
😂
Hats off to whoever composed that song, it captures the essence of Michael Jackson well and it’s genuinely catchy!
That was done by comedian and singer Philip Pope, He's done various music for comedies and did this in a way that sounded like MJ without using any of his actual music to avoid copyright issues.
It’s done very well.
Umm! Well, . . . . . .
It's a tough call to say whether that's MJ's best ever song, but that's definitely in the top 3.
hahahaha as a HUGE michael jackson fan i have to say this had me in tears of laughter. very well done, and love the treadmill! :)
what an absolutely brilliant and adorable duo. the way they speak english surely makes it the world's finest language. and makes some of us hopelessly in love with stephen fry;)
The treadmill really sold it for me
I just can't understand why 'Move It On Out Girl' isn't on any of MJ's Greatest Hits albums.
It's amazing how much Michele Jackson's appearance changed over the years.
I can't believe I have just seen Stephen Fry dancing!! And it was amazing!
The most eloquent Michael Jackson has ever been 😂
Who the hell is Stephen? The guy on the treadmill is Michael Jackson.
it was such a scoop getting Jackson back then, people may not realise just how big he was. Laurie really manages to get him to open up
Utterly hilarious.
This footage confirms what I have always known, that Jackson was putting that high voice on!
When I realised he was on a treadmill I nearly dropped my biscuit in my tea
Five stars!
These two guys are too hilarious - I could watch them all day! British humor just gets me! I love it!
That treadmill moonwalk - I'm still chuckling over it! And to think it was done so long ago! I think it's a happy tribute to the late pop King.
I would imagine that MJ saw this when he was still alive and I bet he thought it was funny too.
Great video! Thanks for posting!
Right, how many people clicked on this expecting a genuine Michael Jackson interview?
What do you mean? This is not MJ?
Wow! Stephen Fry actually dancing? I never thought I'd see the day! Superb!
I forgot all about Stephen's eccentric dancing back then, and I also forgot how awesome it was.
While I'm sure Fry loathes this bit to this very day, this is my favorite sketch from the show
This clip should come with a health warning - I nearly died laughing!
This is what MJ biopic must look like in 2024
i like this, it actually took abit of the sadness away, and i dont think they were mocking him at all, its parody, i think thats what its called. and in a sense, a form of tribute in itself.
The last time i watched this sketch Michael Jackson was alive and i had no idea that the next time i watch it he would be dead. RIP Michael Jackson.
This is simply awesome British comedy at its finest.Hugh and Stephen you guys rock!!!
I love it when the camera pans left at the beginning of the song to reveal Stephen poncing along on the treadmill. Brilliant.
Do you know what 'poncing' means? Because you used it in the wrong context.
@@vermilliongecko I thought so but maybe not? Could you tell me what it means and give an example of context please? Thanks.
Jeeves? Jeeves, is that you? Are you okay? LOL
I’ve desperately been trying to copy his look for years. I finally got the jacket the other day. And the tie.
I've actually had this song stuck in my head over the past few days. Have to keep watching this clip. Madness.
"Move It On Out Girl" is an underrated classic.
Really highlights what a great dancer the real Michael was. And I didn't know Stephen was so willing to do physical comedy!
Micheal Jackson was a much better dancer than Stephen Fry. iMHO
Well I'll go to the back of our fridge, that Michael Jacko is a smooth and luscious operator. His dance moves make River Dance seem almost over emphatic.
It's only because Hugh Laurie and the "House" series that I found this treasure of Fry and Laurie! I hope others will do the same.
The treadmill moment, too good 😂😂😂😂😂
LOL!!!!! That was just one of the most hilarious thing that I have ever seen!! Oh Mr Laurie, I love you and I am crazy in love with your accent too!! I never in my life fancied old guys but I would do a big exception if I could have you!!! :)
There is just something so funny about the walking bit. He's just naturally hilarious.
Obviously he's enjoying his looks and moves
People can make jokes just not disrespectful ones. There's a fine line between making a joke about someone or just being disrespectful and rude.
Absolutely first class comedy!
There is nothing funnier than Mr Fry's dancing.. I was watching this at night and tried so hard not to laugh because my sister was sleeping. But I failed lol.
OMG, the way Stephen did the moonwalk was SO funny! :D Definitely one of my favourite Fry& Laurie bits :3
Wow. The moon walking was freakin hilarious! Hahaha
Love how the 2 dancers at the end can't stop smiling at SF's dancing, and who can blame them?!
EXCELLENT. And THAT'S coming from a longtime fan of Michael Jackson who has only recently come to love Laurie and Fry. LMAO, this is some seriously funny shit.
They both make me come to tears with their jokes and ironies... they're brilliant!!!! British humour style is much more hilarious than American's, IMO for goodness sake!
Ball bouncingly funny what a pair of comic geniuses they are makes me happy thinking of 1994 and childhood memories of watching Blackadder.
this was such a good show... I love hugh laurie as a comedian :D
This just proves it. Stephen is an intellectual giant.
"someone give the man a bloody medal!"
Absolute gold. I am in awe at the comedic epicness
My head just exploded
im sorry but the treadmill just cracks me up every time lmao
That was amazing when that happened. At the time I couldn't understand how Hugh Laurie managed to get Jacko on his show. To be honest I still can't.
The image of Fry on that treadmill will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I wish that was a real MJ song.
love the treadmill bit LOL
Michael Jackson talking so posh.
Oh my god this is freaking hilarious. I was crazy about this show back in the nineties but I never saw this. Too funny. I had the hots for Hugh Laurie from way back then.
haaaaaaaaaaa this is so great!! I'm a Michael Jackson fan and I find it hilarious. Grow a sense of humor people!!
Literally nobody has said a bad word about it. Calm your tits. Typical defensive MJ fan.
i may have watched it a hundred times and it's still hilarious
It's interesting to note that Stephen Fry really can't dance. Most actors in this role would pretend that they can't dance, but the truth is that successful actors typically can. It's a very important skill. Stephen can't though (at least not particularly well), which makes the casting even better.
You’re not really cast for your own show tho. He created the sketch with him in mind.
Oh dear! I am in tears, holding my contracted stomach for too much laughter..... I'm not very used to it, that's for sure... simply brilliant!
What did Michael Jackson say when Hugh asked him "You've been in the music business for most of your life?" at 0:54?
Nigh on out girl!
“Nigh on”
(It means 'almost' or 'very nearly')
