  • The Y73 is an wreck sunk by DNR here in Charleston, SC as part of the artificial reef program. While a lot of fish species are out of season right now, spearfishing lionfish is the perfect thing to do! I took two zookeepers down with me and filled them both up in one dive. There were still plenty of lionfish left behind that we couldn't wrangle up. We will be back for the rest!

    That was amazing! I would love to harvest that many lionfish in one shot. Great job!

    I was working on the Y73 in 1970 in Vietnam . I came home shortly before it was brought back to the United States .

      That’s awesome! I can’t say that I know the full history of the ship.

      Hi, was a 180 foot fuel tanker that traveled mostly up and down the Saigon river hauling fuel for jets and chopper fuel. I was the quarter master at first and was promoted to boson , which I was in charge of the deck hands. I don’t know when it arrived in Vietnam, and I’m not sure when it returned to the states . It was great duty, and I’ll never forget my time on her .

    I hunt them in West Palm but you gotta go deep to get the big boys. Great job getting rid of them!

      I’ve noticed that the wrecks down in Florida stay pretty cleaned up from lion fish but yes I have definitely seen some monsters on the deeper ones, thanks!

    They sure are muscular and are very good at wiggling off of the tip. Good job!!

      They are pretty tricky to wrangle, you’ve really got to make sure you got them good before you start to retrieve.

    Lionfish sure do love the metal structures we have out here. The Y73 is such a fun dive too

      They sure do, I think we’re gonna have to go hit all the tug boats out there next.

    How’s the clarity and are sharks actively hunting this time of year?

    • @WholeOtherWorldScuba
      @WholeOtherWorldScuba  2 роки тому +1

      I’d say the visibility was at least 50ft. I can’t speak to the feeding habits of sharks.

    What's the reason for spearing Lionfish, are they good eating?

    • @WholeOtherWorldScuba
      @WholeOtherWorldScuba  2 роки тому +2

      Yes they are good eating but the main reason is that they are not indigenous to our area and have become very invasive.
