Whole Other World Scuba
United States
Приєднався 7 кві 2011
Whole Other World is all about Scuba diving of all sorts. We want to take you with us and provide a first person account of what we see as divers. Our goal is to provide a video library of our local wrecks and dive sites so that people may know before they go or just explore from home. Whether we're wreck diving, culling Lionfish, or hunting for fossils we hope you come along for the experience!
Spearing Lionfish on the Anne Richards Tug
We decided look for some Lionfish on a wreck that we had not dove on all year and there sure were a ton of them hanging out on the inside! The Anne Richards Tug is a wreck that is located in the Comanche Reef in Charleston, SC. We got a total of 60 Lionfish in two dives and could have easily gotten more if we had brought multiple Zookeepers down. This video is from the second dive of the day.

Diving the U352 German U-Boat with Sea Turtle
Переглядів 2043 місяці тому
We got to go diving up in Morehead City for the Memorial Day weekend and were blessed with some great conditions. We ran into a beautiful sea turtle that seemed to be showing us her good side before slowly swimming away!
Hunting Lionfish on the Comanche Shipwreck
Переглядів 3984 місяці тому
This was our first Lionfish dive of the year (2024) for the SC Aquarium's Julionfish Derby. Twenty Five Lionfish were collected on this one dive, however, we had to cut the day short due to the seas picking up. We will be back at it next weekend to clean up more!
Diving the Nanshin Maru (Disney Wreck) - Black Island, Philippines
Переглядів 2175 місяців тому
The Nanshin Maru or Black island wreck is sometimes referred to as the "Disney Wreck" by the locals of Coron due to its almost staged beauty. It was most likely sunk after WWII during a monsoon and is just a short swim from the beautiful beaches of Black Island. This wreck is fully intact and covered in a healthy population of corals.
Penetration Dive on Akitsushima Shipwreck - Coron Philippines
Переглядів 1405 місяців тому
The Akitsushima was one of the few offensive ships in the Japanese fleet that was sunk in Busuanga Bay during WWII. She was a sea plane tender and played a large role in surveillance activities in the area. Now resting on her side it is an amazing wreck to dive through. On the outside you can find the anti aircraft gun sitting upright in the sand, dive through the now sideways engine room, view...

The Kogyo Maru, was a Japanese freighter carrying construction materials for building a runway for the Japanese war effort in the Pacific. She along with a handful of other Japanese ships were bombed on September 24, 1944 by a fleet of American Hellcats. Lying on her starboard side in 34 meters of water the Kogyo Maru offers swim throughs into all six holds, through the engine room, and the bri...

What boat are you in?
@@adonisnguyen1293 this was at the Comanche wreck.
There should be a soundtrack with Heart rockin' it.
Sea catfish?
They were kind of like big polywags
Thank you for this. I served on the Robison ("Rockin' Robi") from 74-76. I knew she was sunk for the reef, this is the first vid I've seen. Part of me is a little sad, but much better this than being beached at the breakers and cut up for razor blades.
@@steeleslicer1217 thank you for watching, she is an amazing wreck and home to a huge diversity of fish now!
Notice how the Lionfish lover went radio silent once she got schooled.
I'd say we have a Lionfish overpopulation problem here.
@@b.wiggins714 100%
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba I'm your neighbor to the north - live in Hampstead NC. I'm very interested in diving for Lfish!
@@b.wiggins714 I know yall have some to spear up there too, I’ve cleaned a few up from the Aeolus… not the Caribsea though. I don’t usually spear around 60+ Sand Tiger sharks😅
Thanks 👍
Awesome stuff. I love it.
Thanks!
Good stuff..!!...Keepem coming...
Is it worth anything?
You can sell them yes
Leave that fish alone dang 😢
@@Nunudiva22 this is an an invasive Lionfish that is non native to our waters and they are decimating our native fish populations
They are an invasive species
Why they are invasive and are not exposed to be there
@@Wildlings1o1 they are invasive because they are from the Indo-Pacific part of the world and now they are taking over the Atlantic Ocean. They are spreading at an uncontrolled rate because they have NO natural predators on our side of the world.
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba Except us!!
Do you turn these in for bounties or sell to restaurant?
@@PROAmateur01 we cook them and we collect them for a competition the SC aquarium is hosting.
Wait, do people eat those?
@@donaldmiller4386 yes you can eat them and they are delicious!
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba I never knew that I thought they were poisonous to the point of not being able to eat them
@@donaldmiller4386 they have venomous spines on their back but you can filet the sides like a regular fish
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba awesome thank you for the information
Hey brother, really enjoy your video - just one question. I know your spot is probably sacred, but I was stationed in the Navy of the Cooper River by the weapon station in goose Creek years ago. Are you that far up the Cooper?
Thanks! Yes we do all of our cooper river diving up north from the navy station. We kind of just hit different spots all the time, you never know what to expect
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba cool! Well, thank you for the reply and good luck and stay safe out there. Hey one more question if you don’t mind, do you have to deal with gators up that far?
@@b.wiggins714 there are gators in that part of the river but they are mainly more of a threat during mating season. I always tell my divers to stay away from the banks or swim towards the middle of the river if they come up close to the edge. Gators are usually at the surface so you aren’t likely to bump into one at the bottom while diving. If you live in the area you’re more than welcome to come out with us sometime. We dive the river more in the fall or winter.
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba Awesome! I'd love to go with you guys. I'm a former Navy EOD diver and have ALWAYS wanted to get some big teeth. I live near Wilmington NC and find them on the beach at Topsail Isl. (not the Megs). Here's a story you may have heard of last summer.... ua-cam.com/video/7z7xwQ-i4kQ/v-deo.html Let me know how to contact you for the chance to go. Ben Wiggins Hampstead NC
So awesome man.
Thanks! Looking forward to your lionfish video!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy seeing these.
Yes!!! Happy hunting
Yes Sir! Gettem Boys!
What a great dive. Magnificent ship and plenty of opportunities to dive different things and levels on her. Been to the spot. Thank you Gage.
Thank you!
So awesome.
Awesome as always. Thanks for sharing.

It’s a lot of fun but a lot of work!

Pretty cool! I've never been that deep inside.... maybe someday. Badass!
Thanks it was an awesome dive!
The stuff you find down there is incredible!
Awesome.
😳😳😳
Impressive..subbed.
Much appreciated!
Love diving the Spiegel Grove. I can’t wait to go back!! Great video. I subscribed!
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
WELL DONE on your buoyancy control as well as your line placements/tie-offs!!! I was expecting to see the "TOP DOG" (Snoopy riding atopp the alligator, which represents the Amphibious Force "Gator Navy") in the tile on the deck. THANKS for the tour! I deployed with her in my ARG (Amphibious Ready Group) to the Mediterranean Sea with the U.S. SIXTH Fleet back in the mid-1970s. You can never get enough dives on SPIEGEL GROVE!!! I'll be back!!!!!
Thank you for your great feedback! I do have another (sorta cheesy) video on how to find Snoopy on the Spiegel for those who are interested. It is always interesting to hear about first hand history of this ship. I bet diving the Spiegel after serving on her is a really cool experience. I wish I had more time down there to explore more thoroughly but that's part of the allure I suppose.
Nice tour of 2nd deck port side. I served on her in 78-79, did several deployments including med cruise Jan-June 79
Beautiful diving conditions on VANDENBERG!!!!! Been a few years since I last dived her. I need to return and do some more penetration explorations! Thanks for the tour!!!!
I cant wait to get back down to the Vandenberg to dive again. I feel like I barely got to scratch the surface on this one. I could only dive recreationally since I flew down but I would really like to do some deco dives on this one some day.
@@WholeOtherWorldScuba🎉,
AMAZING!!!! AT 2:58, you are looking at the Steam Drum on the 600 psi Boiler which means you are in the"Fireroom", where the boilers are located. The Engine Room will be in a separate compartment AFT of the Fireroom. That's where the steam trubines and reduction gear are located. The propeller shafts are connected at the aft end of the Reduction Gear. GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT penetrating the Fireroom!!!! Next drop, you might look to penetrate the Engine Room. THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!!!
That’s great information I will look aft next time I go back! I'm pretty sure I know which hatch is the one I'm looking for now that you mentioned that. Thank you
The machinery room is divided port and starboard, not fwd and aft. This is the aft machinery room, engine room on port side where he first enters, fire room on starboard. fwd machinery room is opposite.
That is so sick
Yup, looks like the boiler flats on ships I was on.
Your niece: you did such a great job!keep up the good work ❤❤❤
I keep up the good work just for you 😉
I was just there 2 days ago myself. Very easy to silt it up if you aren’t careful. Awesome dive and awesome video.
Yea the silt will rise up if you just look at it funny, thanks!
nice! worth a sub :)
Thanks! Id settle for a rebreather
Awesome video. I love seeing videos from the Spiegel Grove.
Thanks man, she’s an awesome wreck!
