    It seemed a lot more women were into your boa than men were. Awesome snake. Thank you for help educating people about snakes and showing them snakes are not something to be afraid of. Sub'd!

    Garden Snake? I loved your expression, like "Are you kidding me, Dude?" I love that you are doing your part in educating the public about our snake friends. The kids, especially. That's where the deprogramming starts. Pyro was such a good boy that day. He looks like a very social, interactive guy.

      ***** If you listen closely at 1:57 you'll hear someone call him a corn snake. And throughout the day 3-4 people asked if he was a ball python as well. Garden snake was my favorite though! He really was a good sport, and I can only hope weather permits us to bring him to next year's Walk. I'm sure there would be people recognizing him.

      I just started keeping snakes 2 years ago. Before then I was clueless, too. I hate to admit it, but I used to be so afraid of them. I fell totally in love when my bf brought home a ball python. Now we have 15 snakes. LOL

    Absolutely love it. I'm a huge animal lover. But namely reptiles. Snakes have been my favorite animal for my entire life. It's amazing to see so many people so interested in your gorgeous snake. I'm sure you changed a lot of opinions on how people view them. Help Make them realise that just because it doesn't have fur doesn't mean it can't be an amazing companion. Absolutely love it.

      You just need to check the website beforehand, as the policy can change from one year to the next. I was able to bring mine because I worked for AHS and they knew I knew what I was doing as I'd brought snakes in before. Also you want to make sure the weather is warm enough, because some years have been very cold (under 50) and that's far too chilly for a snake.

    I'm amazed at all the positivity. If I were to try this there would be a few dozen people trying to kill my baby. Even at reptile conventions with my herp society there are still people who hate snakes and try to condemn us for having large snakes. We go there to share our passion for the animals and also to educate the people on the baby animals they might buy. I bring my baby (now 10 months) and we bring an adult (7 year old) male at 7' and 15 lbs and an adult (17 years old) female at 8.5' and 40 lbs. I'm also the weird one at my herp society who promotes massive cages for boas. The cage I'm planning on have made by someone competent with tools is a 7'Wx3'Dx5'H with anchored branches. It'll be tricky to heat but I think it will be worth it. It is based on a cage a member of a forum I'm a part of made. He made a 3mWx1mDx2mH but he built it in the room. I'm not sure I could move a much larger cage through doors.

    • @CuringInsanity
      @CuringInsanity  9 років тому +4

      Kingz Online I think one of the most important things to owning any animal while you still live under your parent's roof is having them also be interested in said animal. If your parents fear snakes, but agree to let you own one so long as they never need to care for it or feed it, what happens when you're old enough to go to college and the snake remains in their home? Likely they'd want you to get rid of it. Re-homing an adult boa is very difficult since the vast majority of people want to acquire them when they are young and easy to handle. Boas have an average lifespan of 20-30 years with proper care. That is a long commitment, one you need to make sure you're ready for. That 5 month old baby boa will, in 2-4 years time, be 5'+ in length and eating large rats and needing an enclosure that provides it at least 8 square feet of space. You also need to make sure you have funds ready for any emergency vet care. Exotic vets are expensive, and often the ailment requiring vet care comes on suddenly and cannot slowly be saved up for. Even a routine check-up will run around $200. By no means am I trying to scare you from the idea of owning a boa, or any snake for that matter. Too often I am contacted by people who can no longer keep their reptile due to lack of time/money/space, or by a parent whose child lost interest. I simply do not want you to go into this without all of the knowledge you need prior to buying your first boa. IF your parents are totally on board and you do have a plan for the future with your boa, please let me know and I will give you every bit of information you need on caging, feeding, proper care, who to buy from, reptile expos, which products I recommend, and more.

    • @hunterx700
      @hunterx700 7 років тому +1

      Snakes are cold blooded which means that they really don't produce their own body heat, they rely on the temperature around them. The ambient, cool temperatures for a Boa is 80F, and since the day was 82F it made it safe to expose the boa to it for a prolonged period

    If you have a pet snake, please do not take it out in public. I am afraid of snakes, so are alot of other people. Sometimes people will walk around with a snake, and I wont notice until they are standing right next to me. If you surprise me, I could punch you or hurt the snake. I know, its probably harmless, but that doesnt change the visceral fight or flight reaction in that moment. If you must take your snake in public, just make sure nobody is surprised when they see it.

      There's no difference in taking a dog or snake into public. Nobody cares if you don't want it to be outside just leave if it bothers you.

    • @imamountainheadtoo
      @imamountainheadtoo Рік тому +1

      People should absolutely be able to bring their snakes in public if they'd like. A large number of snakes are pretty docile, especially ball/royal pythons. I think the next time you see a snake out in public, it could help to be cautious but be open, ask questions, be curious and show you are interested in learning more about these beautiful creatures. You will see there is no reason to fear snakes.

  • @trevor0386

    Nice to see the positivity but really not in the best interest of your boa to take it for a "walk". If one person would have been bit or the boa had attempted to, your local bylaws would have went nuts.

    • @CuringInsanity
      @CuringInsanity  8 років тому +12

      No more nuts than had any of the 2,000+ dogs attending the Walk for Animals bitten someone. Every person bringing an animal to the event signs papers regarding this potential issue to prevent lawsuits, because they do understand accidents can happen when this many animals are gathered in one space. Attendees understand if there is an accident, it is basically their own fault and they do not get to sue the owner of the animal unless it is an extreme case. Here is part of the agreement: "I understand that participating in the event can be a hazardous activity. I also understand that I am participating at my own sole risk. I agree that Animal Humane Society, its agents, employees, sponsors, cooperating organizations, and all parties connected to this event, shall not be liable for any claims, demands, injuries, damages, actions, or causes of action, arising out of acts of active or passive negligence. I, and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, expressly release and discharge all such claims and liabilities, even though that liability may arise out of my own negligence or carelessness."
