  • On Sunday, April 17th, 2022, Yoshiji Soeno sensei, founder of the World Karate Federation Shidokan, had a seminar at the Okinawa Karate Kaikan located in Tomigusuku City in Okinawa. Many Shidokan members and Karateka from Okinawa participated in this seminar.
What you see in this video is Knuckle Push-up training which is just part of what took place in the seminar. The training is very intense, and many who participated did very well to the end of it.

I prefer funny and easy so-called American 'karate' styles where you become a ninja in 2 sessions and can get all rainbow belts haha!!! Respect for all authentic Okinawan and Japanese karate and budo styles! Osu!

Reminds me of when I first joined matsubayashi-ryu. My Sensei trained me very hard and from the first few lessons, I had to do knuckle pushups over sandy rock ground in the park. We practiced our stances when it was pouring rain and slippery. Good training good times!

@@okinawakaratemasters5776 This is not a good way to train knuckle pushups. I didn't see even one Karataka doing the pushups correctly. A better way to do it would be to give them a short rest between each set. It would end up being just as grueling and they'd actually be doing a correct pushup

@@johnreidy2804 Maybe the goal is to teach them to fight through pain. I don't think it's about the pushup itself as much as not giving up during a fight. But I would also do it differently, since I would worry that you could damage your hand over time if you train like this a lot. I think I prefer holding a low horse stance, like some Chinese styles do. After even a minute of that, most people are shaking and having a battle with their own willpower.

@@TheMisterGuy Yeah no doubt its about "toughness" and not pushups. But you open the door to injury when you push the triceps tendon in that fashion. I agree Shiko Dachi (Sumo Stance) would have been better.

Try that on sandpaper 😊 Not for beginners though. 😮
