Do you remember the last Bollywood movie you absolutely loved? Chances are that you will have to think hard about it, because Bollywood movies are not really setting the world alight anymore. 2022 has been a terrible year for Hindi-language films with multiple flops so far, a continuation of the trend that started during the pandemic. In contrast, big-budget South Indian flicks are tearing up the box office. People have given different theories for Bollywood's decline, both in quality and box-office numbers. In this video, I dissect those theories to see if they are valid, and tell you about the ones that have actually contributed to the present state of beloved film industry.

I'm a Tamilian. I'm so glad that our movies are being appreciated by North Indians. But one of the main reason is that the audience always likes something fresh or think the other side is greener. Just like how how movies and dramas of East-Asians appeals to a lot, including me, we want something fresh. I hope this interest that North Indians have toward South Indian films makes more bridges rather than just blantaly disliking Bollywood movies.

We have always liked South Indian movies. Aparichit of Vikram and Sivaji of Rajnikanth are my favourites. I used to watch these films on Star Gold and Zee Cinema as a child. You forgot to mention a big fact that that after SSR and Bollywood drug mafia and its exposed underworld links, bollywood lost its respect in public. Moreover it is necessary to notice that movies in India are promoted through mouth-to-mouth and P2P interaction and not by doing promotional events. The pre-pandemic boycott is not same as the post-pandemic-boycott.

Now a days content is everything. Even in Chennai sometimes rajini, Vijay movies flops . Even though they are big stars, people started loving different films such as jai bhim, kaithi, asuran, love today which conveys the story in depth with a strong character. It is good to realise that people are eager to watch content rather than watching big stars movies.

That time is gone when people would just sit in theatres for 3 hours to see their heroes/heroines on screen. Now audience wants entertainment not celebrities. And movies with good screen writing and good acting/script has performed well in theatres like gangubai kathiawadi.

Also why should I watch Lal Singh Chaddha, it's just a copy paste of Forrest Gump. In the South, you won't get chance if your movies flop even if you are a nepotism product. Educate your dumb self. In the South, the nepotism children are not just into acting but into production, pre-production & post-production. On top of that they are stylists, hair & makeup, voice-overs, music, music directors, directors, producers, etc. They are into every part of the film. It is a whole family event (in the Telugu). In Tamilnadu, you must do better than your sibling(s) (take brothet actors Surya & Karthik for example). The prospects for nepotism is not just acting like in Bollywood. Please, I understand what Sushanth Singh Rajput was saying but in the South you cannot base your success on your family, family background or connections. YOU MUST PERFORM & GIVE THE BEST PERFORMANCES OF YOUR LIFE. Then only you will succeed unlike Bollywood that only depends on connections.

Reminds us past sweet memories. If this same film was made now, with everything unchanged, I don't think this film gonna work.

    1. Make movies with regional areas(relatibility)
    2. Hire actors from hindi belt
    3. Stop using Urdu and Punjabi. Because Bollywood is HINDI movie industry. Here in sandalwood we don't use tamil or telugu. We use kannada
(While listening to hindi songs I was finding hard to understand. Then my Rajasthani friend said it's Punjabi. Whole life I thought yo yo honey singh used to sing in hindi🤣)

Another HUGE factor is remakes, no one wants to see shitty remakes anymore.

Top 10% audience of India ( economy driven )aren't intersted in Bollywood or south either ,they now mostly prefer kdramas , animes , Hollywood, Spanish content .
They have completely overlook the Indian content due to much Punjabi or non serious influence over Bollywood.

Even most of the Bollywood music after 2012 are just Punjabi version with bhojpuri dance .

    1) Bollywood directors & producers opt for a tried & tested successful movie, but not a new one i.e. a remake of other language which downgrades its impression.
    2) Bollywood story delivering is so poor now a days that they intentionally introduce an item song Or an actress which reveals too much body parts to attract young audience because their story, content, lyrics, song is so trash that nobody gonna watch it without introducing nudity. But, they should realise, arey they releasing a movie or porn?
    3) Actors lack professionalism .. Akshay kumar making so many biopics without really preparing for that role... Salman, shahrukh act without getting into the role which is given to them, rather act as if they are assigned with real life roles. Only hrithik & aamir khan mold themselves according to the role.
    4) Again movie lacks professionalism -
Bolly movies are not based on the story, rather they are more commercialized.
You can see in South, they chose the story & the acts & actors revolve around it which makes it interesting.
But, in case of bollywood, you will see an item song, cheap comedy, unnecessary nudity irrespective of the story.
    Ex -:
    i) in movie like super 30 which is based on a teacher, his students, science... They introduced item song out of nowhere which is clearly unprofessional.
ii) mission mangal - story is about mission mars of isro... There are so many out of the context scenes like vidya & her husband fight, vidya's son getting into hindu-muslim conflict, metro fight of ladies, akshay kumar making poori in a high-profile ISRO meeting!
You can see Hollywood movies like titanic, anaconda... all of the scenes are related to movie story, no unnecessary scenes are added.
In South also, movies like bahubali, rrr, pushpa, kgf all are strictly professional about the story which makes them successful.
In my opinion, due to OTT, people are getting access to wider variety of movies from different languages. After watching extremely energetic, high profile professional movies in South India, korean & hollywood industries, they barely want to go to unprofessional commercialization oriented Bollywood movies!

If the content is good no need to worry about social media boycott .The problem is with the content it is not connected with the common people or public. I used to watch bollywood movies in my college days now I can barely connect with any of the movie except one or two. I strongly believe that the director and screen play writers must come from diversified and must be from humble background so that they can bring their surroundings to the screen .Most of the directors and actors now a days seem to come from the elite background who are no way connected with common people except what they see on their way to airports. So they don't know about common people even if they were presented with a story line that reflects the livelyness of common audiance and way of life they won't accept such stories because they are the representative of elite 1% who are no way connected to the masses.

Another fact I want to add, In the lockdown, hell lot of indians Including me, who were watching only 2 hours movie, got time to try multi episode series, be it anime, webseries, k drama, or any other thing. And one thing they have but movies don't, is story buildup and character development. It takes time and patience to explain, and one you are used to watching series which 2-4 hours to build up its story and characters for a great finale, you will not be entertained by 2 hour movie. I watched RRR and It had the Character development I wanted. And it was one of the best films to watch because in its 3 hour duration, it took me through so many ups and downs. Please think about this angle too. Or try Attack On TItan, you will know in 2 hours.

Being a South Indian who speaks Hindi quite fluently, I've noticed that many Hindi movie channels often aired dubbed Telugu, Tamil and Kannada movies. The weird part was that the dubbed movies had already been remade in Hindi with big stars in the lead.
A good example is "Vikramarkudu", despite this film being remade in Hindi as "Rowdy Rathore" and years passing after it's release I still see Vikramarkudu or the kannada remake of Vikramarkudu play in dub.
Perhaps the satellite rights of dubbed south Indian movies are cheaper than Bollywood's, but this has helped the regular Bollywood audience get accustomed to watching dubbed films, which has opened up an entire new world of cinema for them. Not to mention the perfect timing of mammoth films like Baahubali, KGF, RRR and Pushpa, no wonder recent Bollywood films felt underwhelming in comparison.
This might change as there were a few duds from the south as of late( "Liger" I am looking at you) and Brahmastra does look promising. Will Bollywood bounce back? Only time will tell

I'm from a small city of Bihar where only 2 single screen cinema hall exist. I can confirm that Boycott trends really working. In my friend circle there are 12 friends and we all were boycotted LSC. Bollywood stars lost all respect and love in public. After Sushant Singh Rajput death, people have know dark truth of these stars. Khans have become villains and Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan lost respect for doing gutkha ads.

Divided by complaints, United by Boycott.
Also earlier there used to the section of people against releases like Padmavat, but now it's a mass movement. Everyone have thier own reasons but they all have agreed on boycott.
Additionally, the remake and formula based ventures are now just not connecting.

Good Video. But one thing I wanted to mention that you are showing the overall numbers: domestic + international. Dangal earned much more in China than it did in India. Even though it still earned enough in India, we shouldn't forget that we are specifically talking about Indian audiences and showing international figures along with domestic ones comes in the cross with graphs and pie charts you showed which only talked about the domestic region.
