Tip to Sniff out Bottlecaps using the AT Pro - also works on CTX 3030

  • This video features a detection method I use to sniff out bottlecaps. This method was originally discovered using my AT Pro, which is the machine I primarily used for the past 4-5 months.
After running this experiment on dozens of targets, I was able to perfect the technique, which is visually demonstrated in the above video. My hunts are on average an hour to two hours, so this is can be a very reliable method to skip over targets and hopefully expend your time on non-trashy targets.
Based on my experience, the reliability ratio of this method will work 9 out of 10 times in identifying a bottlecap, hopefully saving a detectorist the time they would otherwise need to spend digging an unwanted targets.
As I explain in the video, it is very important to keep in mind the halo on DD coil the AT Pro uses is expansive and wide, so please make sure to survey the immediate area for referring feedback from secondary nearby targets if you are planning to use this method to skip over bottlecaps.
Personally speaking, even having reliably identified bottlecaps using this method, I do factor in ground conditions, environmental influences, occurrences of repeatedly similar trashy targets at each specific location and the amount of time I have to hunt to decide whether to sniff out and skip targets with this technique.
    Happy Hunting!
NOTE: Although the technique on the AT Pro uses the iron audio feature not available on the CTX, I have demonstrated a similar technique which can be used on the CTX 3030 here: • Tip to Sniff out Bottl...

It's really hard to hear the "iron audio thud" because you keep talking over it and we can hear background noise. You should rig direct recording next time.

Well lol it would have been nice if you let the audio and sound be live so we could hear what you're hearing. Thats 95% of the reason 19,000 people clicked the video.

That's a good suggestion. I didn't think of doing it that way :) If I have time this year, I'll redo the video and post it so you can hear the iron grunt, but if you're familiar with the AT Pro's iron audio "grunt" it's unmistakable.

To be Good metal detectorist you must listen to what your machine is telling you! If you notics it is grunting and yet also chiming loud then perhaps the bottle cap is masking a good target! You have to dig quite a few targets to be any good as a detectorist.
