When I was young, the Prairies around me looked like a world that went on forever. There's no place quite like it, and Stan captures the essence of it so perfectly. There's no life where you work so hard at so many different things as farming, even if means going 24/7 with only a catnap for 15 minutes. Stan left us over 40 years ago, and yet his music resonates more than ever, especially in the Canada of 2023, where many of us wonder what the next blow will be. Stan, Canada needs your words and your music more than ever. Thank you for leaving us this gift.

Being a farmer, This song is one that belongs to all farmers regardless of borders. From your fans of the American Midwest, thank you Stan! Rest in peace

As a young farmer this song is haunting to me. It seems like every spring when out doing field work this song gets played more than any, it gives me chills and at times will bring about tears because it reminds me of my dad, a farmer, and riding with him in the tractor when I was a kid, late at night doing field work in the spring. doesn’t matter the time of year or the situation I can still smell the soil, the smell of the cab of the tractor and hear the roar of a ford tw25 engine.

This song is so descriptive of the farmer regardless of the country. I loved this man's voice and when he passed we all lost a great talent.

When I was 19 months old I went to Guam on the USN Barrett and I have been a privateer ever since. His music means a lot to me even before I knew I went to Guam on the Barrett. I love his voice. I have a beautiful voice that has never been professionally recorded and maybe won't be. Can you imagine if he had never recorded? Maybe that is the next movie like Yesterday.

Perhaps it is selfish of me to think about what he could have shared with us had he not been taken so soon.

I saw Stan in Toronto at a coffee house "Groaning Board". Ever since that time he comes to mind. He still gives me lots to think about to this day.

The pictures are all of good harvests, not planting. Remember a time when, returning with a child from the Uni at Saskatoon, we went through the drought. Turned a corner, and came upon a field of skinny wheat stalks, dried up before they could ripen, To this day I remember that field, withered before its time. That's not what this song is about: it's about the promise that may not be fulfilled.
