Great overview explaining the differences. I bought my brother a Verity Sense for his birthday last year, because he was having cadence lock issues with his Fenix 6 Pro, and it has been working perfectly. Highly recommended when you don’t like chest straps and want more reliable heart rate tracking.
After 6-7 years (!) of almost daily use, the point has come for my H7 to be replaced. It will accompany my new Fenix 7. I will probably go for the H9. Thanks for your informative video. See you next video. :)
I noticed the comparison graph in the video was dated May 2021. I don't find a lag in my HR on the Verity Sense spiking up currently. When it first came out the lag was terrible and through a firmware update (or 2) they changed/removed a smoothing algorithm. I actually feel like it's too sensitive now but that's the magic of technology and being able to process HRV. The old school Polar watches were designed to display your current HR reading as an avg of the last 5 beats. For the average person this was a lot more effective for training than looking at the noisy graph we look at now.
@@NatashaCherryNC No, those app developers told me to Use Kubios HVR app. Honestly I would read up on HVR and all the things that can cause inaccurate readings. Stress, injury, illness. It takes month to establish a baseline that's accurate and I just found it to cumbersome to be a slave to the device. Also HVR measurements drained the battery on my verity sense pretty quickly.
Thanks so much for the great reviews you do, I live in the mountains of NC about 5000 elevation and my watch sometimes has issues. I've watched your other review on hacks that might work and the only thing that has helped is switching arms. I'm also going to try the wrist band next. I ordered the H10 today :) through your link. Have a great day!
I have both H10 and Verity Sense. I prefer the H10 because it's faster and more accurate but the straps wear out and are relatively expensive. Two device connection is a must-have for me since I use VR for cardio and want to see my heart rate in VR as well as on my phone when I'm using it outside of VR without having to re-pair.
Thanks for sharing, I have both the H9 and H10 but my H10 that was included with my Vantage V2 didn’t come with the newer strap. No big deal I’ll just get one eventually when needed. I’ve been using Polar HRM straps for over 10 years, they have definitely improved the designs. I also feel they need to be replaced, depending on usage, but every couple years is good.
I've never gotten a full year out of a strap without it starting to show obvious garbage data. I got the Verity Sense as a back-up, it's a bit slow to react to fast changes in heart rate but for more even loads or when I don't care THAT much it's perfectly serviceable.
I have H10 and Verity and I love and hate both of them. H10 is the most accurate, responsive and secure HRM I've had. The band ensures contact all the time. But the extra contacts make the band harder and tighter on my chest, it is the most difficult band to breathe with. That's why I bought the Verity so I don't have pressure on my chest. Verity is too slow to react, giving 15 BPM difference when sprinting. Luckily I have powermeter so I don't watch the HR when sprinting, only when doing steady-ish effort where the lag is not a problem. The bigger problem of the Verity is also the band. It is softer than the H10's but the velcro is unnecessary and spoils the comfort. The metal clasp is too big too. But I found a solution to this problem too - sticking the pod to the inside of the cycling jersey's sleeve with double-sided tape. There is enough elasticity in the sleeve to hold it against the skin, I haven't noticed it losing contact and reporing weird values. I just have to remember to unstick it before washing the jersey.
Gorgeous BRoll there at sunset 🙌. I’ve always found the Verity Sense as a good option when it comes to optical HRMs. Separate straps for sale are great because I’ve found that’s what’s most likely to wear out over time. Great video as always Des!
My chest sensor is slowly dying on me and I was looking for an external monitor for martial arts where neither the watch nor the chest strap work so I ended up buying the Verity Sense. The only issue is that it is much safer to record your trainings with the device than starting “live” sessions from your phone. You need to change some data afterwards but you do not loose the complete training. Thanks for the video!
As much as I sometimes hate it when Apple Watch HR lags, I still remember that it happened on chest straps too all the time. It’s also not as comfortable to wear on a run and that already adds 2 problems instead of 1. I wish there was a system where the watch skips between the 2 when one stops working. As it is I’d rather deal with an occasional skip rather than ruin my runs by fiddling with all this tech.
Do you have a suggestion for the least expensive watch to pair an h10 to? I have been using my iphone, but I need to keep my phone in my pocket or backpack, since I do not want to be holding it in my hand the whole time. Something on the wrist would be nicer. Probem is, most of the sport watches are so expensive because they also have a heart rate sensor, but since I have that in the H10, I don't need double duty. just a screen.
Worth noting the button snap distance on the Polar straps maybe 1mm wider than on other sensors. It’s close enough that a Wahoo TICKR or Garmin HRM-Dual sensor will work just fine with them.
Works with Sleep as Android app. It will show your HRV also which is nice. It took me a while to figure out the app though! I cheaped out and didn't buy a Polar watch.
Beware of the H10 chest strap length. M>XXL maxes out at 38" that's medium and surely NOT XXL, lots of complaint on the Inet, check length. Many complaints w/ the H10 also, mine's going back.
This is a right rabbit hole. I have a Garmin HRM -Dual, seems to work fine? Am I missing a trick here? I still also use a Garmin old school full plastic strap which is fine?
Verity Sense is convenient way of getting heart rate. But they should have a better closing system than Velcro. I've ended up gluing it to stop it opening
The black part where the velcro goes feels cheap and I've seen pictures of it distroyed after 6 months of daily use. I don't even undo it I just slide it on and off my arm so it should last me longer. The H10 straps I hear don't last more than 8-10 months with heavy use either, it starts to crack. I was surprised to find out how old the H10 design is and that because it's so good, there has been no need for a new version like an H11 or something.
Hi Des. Thanks for another great video. I use a Garmin Venu SQ that Garmin says can pair with a Garmin HRM and obtain stress data. Can this watch work with these Polar HRMs and obtain stress data?
once you pair the device with your smart watch, will your watch continue to take heart rate from your wrist when you do not have the chest strap on? do I need to manually disable the heart rate monitor from the watch or will it automatically pair with my heart rate monitor when I turn it on for a work out?
Love your videos. I have an older, but higher end, treadmill True PS850 which uses the old (original) Polar chest strap protocol. My wife and myself are completely a Garmin family (Fenix and Forerunner etc). Does anyone make an original Polar chest strap (T34?), that also works with Ant+. The treadmill has many HR driven programs that we can't use without using our old old polar strap. We currently both use Garmin Pro (white) chest straps.
Thanks for this video! I own a couple of the Polar H10s and enjoy them with my Concept 2 rower and my Coros Pace 2 watch. I don't know if this is true or not, but someone once told me that, since there is not an on/off switch on the H10 unit, it can still "look" for a ANT or BT signal and waste battery even when not worn on a chest. To avoid this, a person might remove the hardware from the strap after use. But then it's easy to misplace the pieces as they are separate. A solution to that is to simply unbutton one side of the sensor from the belt, leaving the other connected. Then the unit technically has the circuit broken and is "off". I do this now, but I'm not an engineer. Do you think this is "bro science", DesFit, or is it a good idea? thank you.
I just baught a garmin forrunner 265. I am using a garmin marathon training plan. Would I benefit from buying a chest strap or is the 265 accurate enough. And what chest strap would you recommend for running and some biking.
I am searching for a device that i can wear at soccer matches because i want to see my recovery on my iphone. Is the verity sense can sync to iphone and apple health and apple workouts after i finish my soccer match?
Hi Patrick this is very good information I just have a suggestion for future videos, speak more slowly that will allow people who do not have a fast mental processing can follow you without getting lost.
Will this pair with garmin mk2i? I’m currently using the HRM pro but I’m interested in this. Also will this pair with rogue echo bike and erg machines ?
Odd question: do these straps work if they were strapped with the pod resting on your back, rather than your chest? I do a sport that involves lots of bumps and hits to the front of my chest, so being able to rotate the strap around so the pod rested on my back would be nice.
The electrodes may not have full contact with your skin if you were to wear it on your back especially when your shoulder blades are higher than the main portion of your back.
Thank you very much for the video, I have a question for you. I currently have the Polar OH1 sensor, do you want it to be worth changing it for the polar sense? Will there be much of a difference in accuracy? thank you
Is there a way to know how much charge the verity sense has left? I know the LED blinks red when it's running out of battery, but that's pretty vague, and I didn't find a charge percentage option in Polar Flow for the Verity Sense.
Would you recommend the H10 for martial arts athletes or the Verity sense? I'm a kickboxer and I think the impact of every kicks on the torso will impact the heart rate measurement no?
I don't do mma but I could see issues with either. H10 uses a pod which could detach depending on the type of impact. Doubt accuracy would be an issue though as long as strap keeps contact with the skin (and pod doesn't detach). The Verity Sense pod would likely have less chance of detaching but the velcro closure could come loose and the entire strap could detach from the arm. A way to solve this would be to sew the velcro closure closed (which is what I actually did just because I don't mind just slipping it through my hand and would prefer more security).
@DesFit thank you. I have a Garmin venu 2 plus and love it, but I can no longer run or exercise due to developing Epstein-Barr and now diagnosed with ME/CFS. I now need to track my HR continuously and get alerts when over my AT. I have just ordered the polar verity sense arm band. I hope it helps me pace.
@DesFit I'm trying the band with an app designed for people with ME/CFS. It's supposed to be set up to track HR all day, and give but not during sleep (charge it overnight). Right now, I have to run the yoga activity all day on my garmin to get alerts, but it still seems to not notify me immediately. Hopefully, the band does help me. It also uses your HRV, symptoms, sleep etc to help figure your pacing out. Thank you for responding!
@DesFit I have already noticed my Garmin venu 2 plus will show an HR spike immediately after I do the treadmill (not recommended for ME patients but I did a very slow walk) but the polar verity sense armband doesn't show a spike at all.
Yup, no difference there. Putting the bells and whistles features aside, the other difference that makes an impact is the strap between the two - the Pro strap that comes on the H10 is more secure and I prefer the clip mechanism over the hook.
Great comparison. I row a lot, and I first tried the Garmin dual Hrm. But the hook closure on the garmin strap sits right on the lats where there's a lot of movement when rowing -so it gave me a skin rash when i row for more than 30 minutes . I'm now trying out the Waoo TickrX where the closure is at the front -so no plastic closure on the strap, and therefore no skin rash -but the measurements are quite inconsistent and inacurate compared to the Garmin strap. Do you have any experience with rowing with the polar straps -if the closure irritates the skin?
To be honest I don't have issues with any of the straps in regards to irritation but heard of some folks who have issues with the Garmin straps. The Polar H9 soft strap has a flap over the hook and the H10 has a clip and doesn't have a flap to cover it. Haven't had issues with either though. The H10 clip actually is situated a bit further back vs on the side like the H9. Regardless of the closure, I'd maybe lean towards the H10 just because it's slightly more secure due to the silicone dots. Hope that helps. Thanks!
I haven't tried rowing but I sometimes put the H10 on my back when doing VR boxing because holding my hands up can block the bluetooth signal otherwise. I'd suggest experimenting with rotating the strap so that the clip isn't somewhere irritating, doesn't cost anything to try and it might just work.
I’m looking into getting the Verity Sense. What do you think is the best wrist heart rate monitor? I had heart surgery and would love to track my heart rate at all times even when not working out.
I use the H10 with the Fenix 6. I have noticed recently during my runs that the H10 stops measuring intermittently and then measures again. I looked under the settings on my watch and the sensor is still connected and changed the battery just in case but it still happens. I didn’t notice this during cooler weather but now we’re in the height of summer and being a heavy sweater that it’s getting too wet and cuts out .. I’m wondering if you or others have experienced this?
How old is the strap? My straps usually start to degrade after about 1.5 to 2 years where the electrodes may start to wear out (I think some of this may be due to one's PH levels).
Same issue with my OG garmin HRM. I think because I didn't clean it after ever single workout that the salt / ph started to degrade the strap / HRM connection points. Even when I swapped my strap I still had the issue so no clue really.
I had the same issue with my H10/pro strap after about 10 months. Seems to be quite common that the pro strap doesn't last as long as the soft strap. I've now switched to the soft straps for the extra durability.
I had the same problem with the H10, would cut out midway through a run regularly. Verity sense works far better in my experience, and crucially still captures hill reps and intervals.
Do you have any idea how long before you should replace your H9 or H10 device? I've had my H9 since May 2020 and some readings seem suspect now ( I have replaced batteries and straps )
I usually get about 1.5-2 years out of most straps. I've heard of people getting less and some people more (one of my friends just had to replace one after 4 years!) Often times it's the electrodes on the straps that get worn out. Could also have something to do with one's sweat PH in regards to strap longevity.
Could anyone who owns the Verity Sense confirm if it's accurate for running on a treadmill? I like to do my steady state cardio for up to 45 minutes and need to make sure I'm in a certain heart rate zone in order to get the maximum benefits from my session. Thank you.
Hey guys. If anyone can offer any insight. I’ve been using the H10 chest strap. but I’ve been considering switching to the verity. My only question is HOW different is the quality of HR data between the both? I notice it uses the green lights ( which from my limited research is not as good as ECG ) thanks peeps
I have both, I got the Verity Sense as a back-up since I regularly wear out the H10 straps. The main issue is that the Verity Sense is slower to react to fast changes in heart rate. If you really care about accuracy or immediacy for HIIT type training and want to capture peaks lasting 10-30 seconds before they're over the H10 is *clearly* better, if you want something to remind you to stay in your target heart rate doing more steady state type stuff or just want a reasonable overall big picture view of your workout the Verity Sense is more than adequate.
Really nice video thanks. My question is that I have the Wahoo Tickr which love but wonder about getting the Polar arm strap, would it (Tickr) fit? I would like another strap as backup & for when washing one. Shorter arm ones very easy to wash!
I disagree on the life of the 2025 CR batteries that go into the H10 chest strap. 10 months would be a dream for me. Where I train it is very hot and humid. The battery gives me 1 month at most, before which it starts giving out. Thats been the most annoying thing about the chest strap. A rechargeable chest strap receiver would be awesome to make this device independent on the quality of external batteries.
Are you removing the pod from the strap after your workout? I've had 2 different H10's over the years (lost one) but both had battery life well over 6 months.
I do this around 80% of the time with my H9 and H10 pods. I suspect its the quality of the batteries themselves, they are bought new but the local Energizers must be duds. I've not tried another brand... @@DesFit

Hi, I am looking to purchase my first chest hr monitor. Can I set my preferred heart rate range in any of these and they can alert me (maybe with a sound or vibration) if I am running out of that range?
Polar locks this feature to set HR zones in their app behind a paywall of you have to buy their watches. I was disappointed because this is exactly what I used my old 20yr old polar watch for years ago (I could not buy an uncoded replacement strap) so it's trash. I wound up finding a 3rd party app where I can set an alert during training on my phone called Sportractive.
I use Polar's Polar Beat app on iOS for this. As long as you pair the app with a Polar brand HRM the target heart rate zone feature is free, otherwise you have to pay for it.

I am searching for a device that i can wear at soccer matches because i want to see my recovery on my iphone. Is the verity sense can sync to iphone and apple health and apple workouts after i finish my soccer match?
How do you display the live heart rate on Windows 10 for the Verity Sense?
Hi Patrick this is very good information I just have a suggestion for future videos, speak more slowly that will allow people who do not have a fast mental processing can follow you without getting lost.
Try out the .75 playback speed option in the UA-cam player settings. Also, who is Patrick?
Will there be much of a difference in accuracy? thank you
Accuracy won't be any different. Just the usability with switching modes and the different strap closure.
Can an armband and chest strap be used simultaneously for even more accurate results?
No and in general, a chest HR strap will be more accurate in almost all situations (very cold weather being an exception)
Is there a way to know how much charge the verity sense has left? I know the LED blinks red when it's running out of battery, but that's pretty vague, and I didn't find a charge percentage option in Polar Flow for the Verity Sense.
I can see it on mine under sensor settings. Make sure your firmware is up to date.
@@M_77779 hello, what app are we talking about, Polar Flow?
I know this is an old post, but I'm curious how the verity sense HR compares to the accuracy of a Garmin venu 2 plus.
Thank you.
External HR sensors in general get better accuracy than wrist based sensors mainly due to the location where HR is being measured.
Oh, external HR monitors really only work while manually recording activities - watches don’t utilize them on a 24/7 basis.
Based on your experience and considering the precision parameter only, may I consider H10 and H9 strictly the same?
Yup, no difference there. Putting the bells and whistles features aside, the other difference that makes an impact is the strap between the two - the Pro strap that comes on the H10 is more secure and I prefer the clip mechanism over the hook.
@@DesFit Thanks, the strap is a good reason to choose the H10 ...I am thinking 🤔😂
If Polar would take the Verity sense and make it their own version of Whoop, they'd kill it
Hi, deciding on the 9 and 10. With the 10, can I connect to an iPad and my phone at the same time? Thats all I need.
You'll want the H10 which has more than one bluetooth connection vs the H9.
@@DesFit Yes sorry i just found that out as well, thank you for getting back. Will check your links
Thanks and enjoy!
Can you get your heart rate from h10, after a swim when you connect to a garmin epix 2? Does it synchronize?.Or you need the polar app?
Only syncs with the Polar app
Iv got H10 but need change the batter every few weeks, would removing the sensor from the strap stop the drainage?
Page 6 support.polar.com/e_manuals/h10-heart-rate-sensor/polar-h10-user-manual-english/manual.pdf
Thanks, didn’t know you could also check the batter level! Would like to see USB C charging
I have the H10 and also the OH1
Does it work with Samsung Android?
I’m looking into getting the Verity Sense. What do you think is the best wrist heart rate monitor? I had heart surgery and would love to track my heart rate at all times even when not working out.
Apple Watch and Garmin’s more recent watches tend to have the most accurate HR.
I have the same problem with my H10 on my Fenix 7. Mine was bought in October 2021
Can the h10 record a workout without wearing the apple watch. Wanted to see my HR during my mma training. Anyone knows?
Yes but only through the Polar Flow app
I bough a H10 but when connected to the phone, it displays H9..
is ti useble to ware on Legs angel.
Sorry, not sure what you mean by "legs angel" or "ti"
Do you have any idea how long before you should replace your H9 or H10 device? I've had my H9 since May 2020 and some readings seem suspect now ( I have replaced batteries and straps )
I usually get about 1.5-2 years out of most straps. I've heard of people getting less and some people more (one of my friends just had to replace one after 4 years!) Often times it's the electrodes on the straps that get worn out. Could also have something to do with one's sweat PH in regards to strap longevity.
@@DesFit what about the unit itself?
my strap is less than 1 year. I'm wondering if my device is failing. 😞
I haven’t experienced a pod failure on Polar HRMs but I suppose there’s the possibility of water making it’s way into the pod.
Can you connect polar h9 to samsung galaxy watch 4?
Only with 3rd party apps like the Sporty watch face. Samsung doesn’t support external sensors with their native workout app.
Hi sir can i use it for my horse to check the heart rate after workout
If yes which one can i use for the horse
They have some dedicated to horses on the website
Does the Verity Sense work with Rogue Echo Bike?
As long as the Rogue can pair with a bluetooth or ANT+ external HR sensor, the Verity Sense supports both those connection methods.
Could anyone who owns the Verity Sense confirm if it's accurate for running on a treadmill? I like to do my steady state cardio for up to 45 minutes and need to make sure I'm in a certain heart rate zone in order to get the maximum benefits from my session.
Thank you.
This should help: ua-cam.com/video/-F8-jWbFBoA/v-deo.html

Compatible with a FitBit?
Fitbit’s don’t support external heart rate monitors :/
Can i use it with wahoo bolt v1 ?
Yup!
@@DesFit thanks a lot
So I bought one on Amazon and it won’t charge.
@@DesFit Some and some. Where can I read more about this procedure that affects battery life and how much can it decrease if it's still on the strap?
In their instruction manual where it says to detach the pod after every use
I do this around 80% of the time with my H9 and H10 pods. I suspect its the quality of the batteries themselves, they are bought new but the local Energizers must be duds. I've not tried another brand... @@DesFit
Please slow down your delivery. Your wpm count is way too high to convey new information requiring numerous pauses and repeats. Good information is worth conveying properly.
Try out the .75 playback speed option on the UA-cam player settings
H10 is garbage. Major pairing with phone and sync with app problems. So irritating to spend 30 minutes to get it to work. If it doesn't happen to yours, wait for it.....its coming.
That’s strange. The H10 is easily one of the most reliable HR monitors I’ve ever used…and I’ve used nearly all of them.
@@DesFit ; my old one was having the same issue. I figured it was three years old, Ill get another one. Two months in, was having same problem. Back to resetting it everday and eventually that doesn't work anymore. Time to move on to something else.
I've used the H10 for years and it has been fine connecting to my phone and Win 10 PC. Sounds like the problem is with your phone.
@@dfcx1 ; Nope. Tried it with my iphone, wifes iphone, ipad and sons Android. No other problems connecting anything else to our devices. I contacted polar, which was uselss, but they sent me another strap with the same problem. Sent it back as well. Ended up with Garmin chest strap and watch. They connected right away.🤷♂️ One week no problems 🙏
Having similar issues with my THIRD h10. That and batteries lasting little more than one month... Sending it back to Polar in the next days, but already regretting having spend the money. It is a super comfortable and great heart rate monitor, when it works!
You talk too fast :-(
UA-cam has a playback speed option where you can slow it down to .75 or .5 speed. That may help.
Hi, I am looking to purchase my first chest hr monitor. Can I set my preferred heart rate range in any of these and they can alert me (maybe with a sound or vibration) if I am running out of that range?
None of these have alerts on the device itself. The device you pair it to may be able to give you an indication of your zone though.
