Just here to say that I absolutely adored RDR2, KCD and GoW.
Not saying the points about Dragon Age are wrong, but I don't think people who love all three of the games you mentioned are as far and few between as you made out. Cool video man.

I think this is a fair take, I do hope origins gets a remake or remaster at least, but i do think a lot of origins fans are also just very toxic about this opinion out of anger and so i just can't get behind that aspect, but i do think it is also a bummer that there is an aspect of DA that just got lost along the way, the series has changed and some people will like the changes, like me, and some wont, but the series also hasn't been like this for 15 years and after several games moving away from this i do think that origins fans should either accept the series as it is now or move on, and i don't mean that disrespectfully, it's okay to accept things aren't to your liking anymore, but again i hope origins gets a remake

I definitely don't advocate for toxic behaviour. I imagine you probably get too much of that just by saying "I played some of the game and I liked it". That kind of behaviour is unacceptable.
Moving on is unfortunately very difficult for some us, as DAO holds a special place in our hearts. It's more than just a game we liked at some point, as I'm sure you can understand. But yes, the time has come for us to move on or accept DA as it is now. I hope Veilguard is a success and maybe, if it's good enough, it might win some of us over. Thank you for the comment.

What i would find good would be if the DAO fans do like other fandoms. Say it isn't for you and look at for example Greedfall 2. That have the same problem only in the other direction. I have many series i have to let go and look for something that is more for me. But i would have never go and be so toxic on the game so that other can't enjoy them. We are in really strange times.

@@DualLifeGames I would understand if this would be DA2 or DAI, but even after DA2 they don't go back to DAO. You have had 10 years to let go. With Final Fantasy i have had to let go quickly, because it will never go back to what i would like it to be. I take a look at every new game of FF to look at the story, but i am okay. I have other games to play even when FF was something special. And BG have died after BG2 so that BG3 isn't for me wasn't much of a problem.

Some DAO fans certainly take it too far. I agree it's definitely time to let go, but up to now letting go has been difficult. Partly (at least in my case) because DA2 and DAI were still good enough games to keep me interested in the franchise, but they just always felt like they missed... something. To advocate a bit for DAO fans as well, there are the other fans who don't want to hear any criticisms or concerns regarding DA:TV without screaming "stop hating", especially when comparing it to anything good about DAO.

Bioware literally said that the warden's story was over. There was a closure for their story. If your warden was still alive becaude keep in mind your warden could have died too, then their ending would have been in the dlc, dragon age awakening which was supposed to be the second game. I think its a case of people not willing to be okay with realizing that the story for the warden ended in someway. Whether that was death or after awakening, or settling down for a bit before trying to find a cure for the calling which has never been the plot point of the dragon age story. I think people shouldn't go into this with dread or hate because as you said, its a feeling for how it works. How can you feel how it works but not have tried it yet? You cant. I find it better to be neutral for the actual game, but im always going to be excited for the story.
It would take a lot more work to remake or remaster origins than people think. The first step would be miraculously finding the files of whoch Bioware has stated that they no longer have. Then they would have to remove the original rendering and art style, possibly have the voice actors come back to rerecord their lines, redo all the UI just for it to MAYBE run in frostbite engine. That alone costs a lot of money and EA only allows a certain amount to be approved for budgeting. Its more costly and a lot more work than people think and while yes they have money, they cant just pour everything into the remastering or remaking of a game they dont even have the files for because then they would have no budget for marketing. I think its just time for those who refuse to play it because its not origins to just move on with their lives and except the fact that the warden's story ended with the DLC's or at the end of origins

    • @DualLifeGames
      @DualLifeGames  5 місяців тому +1

The sequel that I'm talking about not to continue the Warden's story. I'm quite satisfied with how it ended, both if the Warden dies or if their story continues in Awakening. It's about the mechanics and "feel" of the game. Some of it is intangible, but the follow-up games just had something missing, even though I still enjoyed them.
I get that remastering DAO completely will probably be a monumental task. I would settle for if they can just get it in a proper working condition for newer hardware. Thanks for the comment.

@@DualLifeGames I get that, but if anything we know that Bioware has been working hard on this and I've been listening to what the devs have been saying and they said they took all the good aspects of each game to make this one. So far I'm liking the turns that they have taken to make this game look decent. I've never been a fan of "tactical" combat because on console it sucked horribly and more than 70% of their consumers are console players because of price point and accessibility.
I think it's good to be cautious about how the actual game is, but that doesn't mean people can't be excited for other aspects of the game or story. I think it is too soon for people to start hating on it though. People did the same thing for BG3 and look how it worked out.
I don't think it would be worth the effort to put into a remake or remaster because they wouldn't be able to make deadlines, stay within budget, and it might not even be approved by EA. It's a whole process that is easier said than done unfortunately

It certainly looks like BioWare has put a lot of effort into Veilguard. There are two things at play here that's causing an internal conflict for players like me. The quality of the game and the direction of the game. While Veilguard is not going in the direction that I would've preferred in terms of combat (I preferred the tactical combat as a PC player) and moment-to-moment gameplay, I can still look forward to continuing the DA story, if the quality is good (story, characters, quest design, optimization). You're right that nobody should judge the game before it releases, both positively or negatively. We should give BioWare a fair shot.

BG3 is not a complete successor, especially not when it comes to combat, but if I show someone, that doesn't know DA or BG3, DAO and then the other DA games and BG3 and ask "which one do you think is the sequel to DAO?", I'd bet they'd say it's BG3. I understand that some games hold a special place in one's heart especially if it has introduced them to gaming or helped them in some ways. In the end, as Kala commented, it has been 15 years. It's a clear sign that Bioware wasn't interested in improving on DAO combat system. I love all 3 games and I think they all suffer from "over-something". I do think Origins is a bit overrated, I think 2 is overlooked and Inquisition "overHated".
Origins is overrated because people that love it tend to say it's the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2, and honestly... it's not even close. DA:O is to BG2 what fans say DA:I is to DA:O. Meaning that DA:O is extremely streamlined and simplified in all fronts compared to BG2. And while there's tactics and a tactical camera, the game almost bullies you into playing it as a 3rd person action rpg with the help of the AI settings because of how bad and clunky the isometric camera feels.
DA2 is overlooked because it took a lot of steps back from Origins (and that's undeniable) but what remained was a very good, very intimate story that reminds me more of BG1 (smaller scale with local problems and struggles) rather than the usual "we gotta save the world" vibe of the other 2. While the combat is way less tactical, a good aspect of 2 is the amount of cool active skills compared to Origins.
Inquisition is "overHated" because people can't look past it's bloat and see the rough diamond that lies beneath all the rubble. There are tons of awesome main and side quests in Inquisiton, some with the coolest setpieces in the franchise.... but it's all locked behind almost mandatory MMORPG grind.
My (very) hot take when it comes to the DA franchise is that Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition are closer to Dragon Age Origins than Dragon Age Origins is to Baldur's Gate 2. In other words, while I do think Origins is the better of the 3 games, it's not by much and I don't think it's the masterpiece people claim it is.

I actually agree on most of your points. Like I said in the video, I liked DA2 and DAI in their own right and they both had good parts about them. I also agree that DAO's combat was not fantastic. This video was more specifically talking about those of us who fell in love a particular game in DAO at launch and never really got a game that felt the same, despite DA2 and DAI still being good games.

@@DualLifeGames I feel like Baldur's Gate 3 is kind of the spiritual successor to Dragon Age Origins because it goes for the same cinematic/immersive style of CRPG, but it lacks the real time with pause system, which I grew to love and sometimes even prefer over turn based.

@Ocean5ix I agree with that. I commented above somewhere that if you showed BG3 and DA2/DAI/DAVe to someone who's never seen those games and asked which one is the sequel to DAO, they'd probably say BG3, despite the turn-based combat. It just feels more similar to play.

We are letting it be what it is. A hot steaming pile of garbage. You don’t get to claim you are a “insert IP name here” and then completely restructure it into something completely unrecognizable from the source. I dropped DA games at 2. I already “let it be what it is”. Took a while for the rest but the community to accept it but they have arrive and DA is dead. This will bomb and even if they remastered the Original, I will not buy it (and I played every single combo of class/race/gender and tried every single option and path available. Obsessive fan if I’m being honest). Let the rot melt away so real artist and creators can rise up and give us real games with soul. I will call swill, swill. Tons of games I do not enjoy but I can still say “That looks like a great game! It’s just not my type”. This game is not that. Anything it does another game does better (because it does nothing original). It is replaceable and forgettable. It is empty and soulless. It deserves nothing but contempt and rejection because only through that, will we force these creeps out of the industry and make room for creators that actually love games and respect their fans and the creations they make.
