Of all the old MK games, this one is still my favorite. I loved the opening, I enjoyed the conquest mode, the main antagonist was pretty cool, the fatalities were nice(some were weird though), and the mini games were fun too. And the characters that were introduced in this game were awesome, especially Ashrah. I swear this one was a bit ahead of its time.
From the looks of it, it was Shang Tsung who broke the alliance. Quan-Chi didn't seem to have any intent until he looked over at Shang Tsung who was mean mugging him, and then saw that he was looking at his amulet. It was THEN that he decided it was on. I think Quan-Chi was willing to stick the alliance through until the end.
If you play Deadly Alliance it is made clear that both sorcerers were planning to betray each other. Quan Chi ensured the army would only obey whoever has Shinnok’s amulet aka him. He only kept Shang Tsung around because he needed his expertise on souls to revive the army, once he fulfilled his part Quan Chi planned to betray him.
@@eyeofsauron1502 Probably kept him for the extra magic muscle when fighting against Raiden and his champions. Also to provide an way to catch Shao Khan off guard. Watch his back against Scorpion. Quan Chi knows soul magik aswell, its he who created the soulnado, corrupted Bi-Han and Hanzo etc.. He just knew that the sheer scale of sorcery required for this endevour and Raiden's opposition is beyond him alone.
What an age it was! We had MK deadly alliance in 2002, Deception in 2004, Shaolin Monks in 2005 and Armageddon in 2006! These days you can wait 7 years for a sequel, although MK do release them around the 3 year mark

A lot of people talk about how Armageddon had the best inteo. But for me, THIS right here is the single best scene in all of MK history. The fight choreography, Shujinkos dialogue, the reveal of Onaga, the music + Quan Chi's fear revealing the stakes, the new alliance, its such good storytelling in such a short cutscene, but it feels like it could be its own movie. Im not the biggest fan of the 3D fighting in the ps2 era, but the lore of these games is unmatched.
@@bm-br3go strongly agree. This was when power scaling actually mattered. Powerhouse characters in the intro. Deception had the best konquest mode by far

As of today, this game is 20 years old. It was the first game I started playing on my own, and is the reason I am a huge MK fan to this day. I will always be grateful for the memories this game gave me.
@@bigguy3900 Keep in mind that Raiden is significantly weaker in Outworld, so he was putting up a pretty good fight against Shang Tsung, who possessed Liu Kang's soul along with an unlimited supply of souls, and Quan Chi, who possessed Shinnok's Amulet.
A lot of people miss the rules of the lore. When he challenged them to mortal Kombat he relinquished his god powers. This rule was emphasised a lot back in the first 3 games. Any power house character in the tournament had to fight as mortals hence the name. Raiden is very strong, but quan chi and Shang tsung are both top 10, to face them at the same time wasn’t easy. That’s why they plotted to assassinate the only 2 people who thought they would lose to. They knew they couldn’t beat Liu kang or Shao Kahn fairly
This intro was so badass that even my mom was on the edge of her seat when Onaga appeared. She never realized games had actual stories and that it could feel like watching a movie. That’s how good this shit was.
Onaga 100%. Blaze not so much. They should definitely elevate lesser characters like Noob Saibot by having him take over the Netherrealm or something. He has potential to be a main boss imo even tho he was a jobber in MK11. It also gives Sub Zero and Scorpion more purpose since they both have history with Bi Han. It could also be a good way to bring back Noob-Smoke
Man back then MK had the best cinematic intros of all fighting games. The 3D era was my favorite because the developers put a lot of effort in the story. So risky, shocking, and amazing. Miss that era.
"Defying the Elder Gods' wishes, he alone challenged Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat, Earthrealm's last hope for freedom." This was my Thunder God. Earth > Elder Gods
Well then, so perhaps Raiden ⚡ is *pretty concerned* about the *Earthrealm's 🌍🌏🌎 own freedom* when compared to the Elder Gods themselves, so he chooses to *defying their wishes by challenging down the Deadly Alliances in a Mortal Kombat* ⚔️ for sake of the Earthrealm's hope for freedom right...🤔
Just recently started playing this again on my PC. So nostalgic and had plently of content for the time. One of my favorites along with Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Shaolin Monks! Conquest was very innovative for the series and I enjoyed it!
Doubtful. He was the next real villain to follow Shinnok since Quan Chi and Shang Tsung were both dead by the end of MKX but they decided to go with more time travel in order to justify their inconsistent writing, retcons and stupid character decisions.
@@mr.awesome6011 MK:X in general should have been entirely about Shinnok's invasion of Earthrealm, with Raiden desperately having to pull together a new selection of champions(IE new characters and lesser 3d era characters) to help protect it since all the others were now Revenants besides Johnny and Sonya
Raiden; Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi coming together at the very end, joining to defeat Onaga, (Because fuck...) will always be a favorite MK moment. (Even though they failed, maybe even more *because* they failed.)
Shinnoks in a league of his own where not even Onaga would dare battle him. Or did you forget both kahn and onaga were shown to fear Shinnok in the original timeline? Shao kahn is the preferred villain so this is why he won Armageddon this is why onaga is out of the picture and shinnok is butchered as a character despite being stronger than kahn he’s not favored as a villain so he’s poorly portrayed in the series in the new timeline. Even Onaga serves worshipped and feared Shinnok. If Shao kahn feared onaga he also feared shinnok it was already shown in the mk movie and even onaga feared Shinnok
Onaga nor Shao Kahn feared Shinnok. Don't forget in Onaga's Armageddon Bio saying he'd ally with Shinnok but would never serve him. If Onaga feared Shinnok then why in the MKA Bio did it say he'd take Shinnok's head? As for movies, I dont consider those canon, only the video games. OG Timeline Shao Kahn didn't even consider Shinnok to be a threat to him. Plus, the combined might of Raiden despite being weaker in Outworld, Quan Chi with Shinnok's Amulet, and Shang Tsung, Soulnado-fueled and with Liu Kang's soul absorbed couldn't beat Onaga.
Onaga himself accepted the offer to serve shinnok and said himself he feared he’d be amongst the dead if Shinnoks plans go through. Onaga is not the type to serve anyone and however brief it may have been he did accept servitude that Shinnok offered. If onaga didn’t fear Shinnok why did he say he worried about shinnok? That’s literally saying he’s scared of shinnok. Also onaga went straight to combat Shao kahn in Armageddon whom he did not fear and he was defeated by Shao kahn anyway. With shinnok he didn’t even bother battling him because onaga is like Shao kahn where if they know they can win they will just attack right then and there. Shao kahn with millions of souls absorbed was killed by the elder gods in minutes. Shinnok is an elder gods and he himself had a long war that lasted centuries with them and raiden and they narrowly defeated Shinnok in a long war that caused mass extinctions in earth realm in their original war....That Shao kahn having his power amplified many times over with thst soil boost in mk3/mk9 and couldn’t stand against the elder gods but minutes without getting killed meanwhile shinnok held a long war with them shows the difference in power with kahn and shinnok. Shinnok is an elder god and shao kahn and onaga have never been without any amps equaled that level of power. Onaga also said he would defeat Shao kahn (didn’t happen) kill blaze (didn’t happen) and take blazes power and THEN only After he takes blazes power did he intend to kill Shinnok.....That’s obvious enough he thought he could only kill Shinnok only after taking blazes power as he flat out said he would intend to Kill him only after taking blazes power. He didn’t even say that about Shao kahn he intended on battling and Killing kahn without blazes power. That in itself also shows onaga believed not only That he believed himself stronger than shao kahn (which ended up Not being true) but also believed shinnok was above shao kahn and himself at that point. Look I’m sure with the kamidogu onaga believes he can beat anyone but without them even he knows He cannot win a battle against an elder god despite having been shao kahns superior at one point. They’re both strong but overrated villains whom are just rulers of outworld and generally cannot touch the realm of elder god powers and when shao khan tried that in mk9 He was clearly wasted by them quickly and like I said, they and raiden had a long war with shinnok originally that lasted centuries and they narrowly defeated him where as killed kahn rather quickly Even having been at his peak. Doesn’t that speak volumes of kahn onaga and Shinnoks power? Kronica is stronger then all of them and the only true villain stronger than shinnok. You can use amps as a means to gauge their power but w.o them In their own power kronica is the strongest then shinnok then either kahn or onaga. With amps saying that onaga is the strongest or shao kahn is as logical as saying Shang tsung is stronger than both bcuz he now wears the crown and literally did waste shao Kahn. And he was stronger than shao kahn with amps but without them we know shao kahn is stronger than Shang tsung. Shao kahn is naturally above Shang tsung without either having amps and shinnok is naturally stronger than all of them as an elder god what’s so hard to get about that? Just bcuz shinnok is small means nothing. Kronica ended up being naturally the strongest villain. Shang tsung defeated her with amps (the crown) but that’s the only reason why she looked weak at that moment. Shang tsung Also killed shao kahn instantly even faster so Kronica looking weak didn’t mean much when kahn had the same fate. Shinnok was naturally the strongest until Kronica came arojnd. If you count amps then Shang tsung whom was the weakest villain is now the strongest far above onaga and kahn now
The one being and the elder gods being the strongest beings in the mk universe has always been a fact to the lore. And yes as individual beings they are also stronger than lesser beings which are onaga and kahn. They don’t interpreted in mortal events and stay out of it. Shinnok was created to Be the more powerful villain than shao kahn so even if you don’t think the movie is cannon the fact that they made Shang tsung the weakest then kahn and then shinnok speaks worlds
Just to make it clear I love onaga second only to shinnok and I hate shao kahn. Shao kahn did fear onaga but that was only when onaga was ruler when shao kahn was much weaker. He got a lot stronger since onagas death and also surpassed him. Onaga did resurrect and become stronger than kahn in deception but that was due to the kamidogu alone and w.o them it was clear that onaga was weaker than kahn. Why? He lost to kahn...:.I think that was unfortunate bcuz I think onaga is a better character more unique just like Shinnok is than shao kann. I also believe shinnok and onaga pose a greater threat to the elder gods and universe than shao kahn. Kahn won Armageddon but mostly everyone killed each other by the time kahn even reached the pyramid. Everyone was dead bfr he attained blazes power. Him attaining blazes power didn’t even matter anymore because everyone did kill themselfes in the battle And It defeated the purpose of attaining blazes power when everyone’s already dead. He was able to destroy raiden and aside from blazes power raiden knew that there was no point in keeping the timeline anymore when everyone was dead anyway, blazes power was just the icing on the cake that made raiden send a message to his former self. Kahn was weaker than onaga originally and is weaker than shinnok but he did win Armageddon but to be fair shinnok led the same shao kahn that won Armageddon to his death without lifting a finger. So shinnok in a sense is the real winner. He outlived everyone including shao kahn except raiden himself: raiden himself isn’t that strong but he’s foiled everyone’s plans,Shang rain in the first tournament Kahn’s in the 2-3rd tournaments defeated the deadly alliance had reverted time to his older self and prevented kronica from winning so he’s weak but his ability to defeat stronger opponents by foiling their plans is his power and kronica herself knows this which is why she wanted raiden Gone
I loved this intro, I loved all the intros between this, deadly alliance, Shaolin monks and Armageddon. But this one is the one i find myself coming back to the most. Also never noticed Onaga laughing as Qaun Chi is holding Shang Tsung up by the throat.
"He alone challenged Quan-Chi and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat. Earth's final chance for freedom." Raiden wasn't playing I don't blame him going rogue. He lost all his champions and his student that was like a son to him.
Onaga just showed up and decimated the strongest out of nowhere 😂 as a 90’s baby I just got nostalgic bc wtf when I was kid and wtf as a adult LOOKING FOWARD TO MK1 the NEW ERA
Original Timeline Raiden is stronger and wiser than current timeline Raiden. Dude became an Elder God then relinquish his status to fight for Earthrealm agains't Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. In doing so he defied the Elder Gods. Current timeline Raiden: "I must consult the Elder Gods".
I love this intro. Probably my favorite MK scene with MK11's scene where Raiden regains his memory and Armageddon's intro. This intro really shows how powerful Raiden is. He almost defeats Quan Chi, that has the Amulet of Shinnok, which is a Kamidogu (basically the infinity stones in the MK universe), and Shang Tsung, that had an unlimited amount of souls to heal/draw power from. And this fight took place in Outworld, where Raiden is considerably weaker. Take one of these variables out (amulet, soulnado, Outworld) or have Raiden fight one at a time, and he would have won. He would've still been defeated by Onaga, though. Too bad Mortal Kombat doesn't have a good sense of power scaling. Like in MK9 when Raiden humiliated Scorpion in the Netherrealm, where Raiden is weaker and Scorpion is much stronger, but then in MK11 Scorpion beats Raiden in Earthrealm. Or when it took an Elder Gods powered Raiden to really kill Shao Kahn in MK9, but then Kitana could do it alone in MK11.
I love the twist in details between this and MK1. in deception it was shang tsung who conjured a snake to disable raiden. in MK1 it was quan chi who conjured it to disable lui kang

Shang Tsungs like the joker of mk, the most ambitiously evil, always looking out for himself, and will turn on you in the blink of an eye!!!
No, Quan Chi was going to get rid of Shang Tsung when he wasn’t needed

Onaga 100%. Blaze not so much. They should definitely elevate lesser characters like Noob Saibot by having him take over the Netherrealm or something. Raiden; Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi coming together at the very end, joining to defeat Onaga, (Because fuck...) will always be a favorite MK moment. (Even though they failed, maybe even more *because* they failed.)
Onaga's in a league of his own. On a scale to where not even Shao Kahn himself would battle him.
Onaga also said he would defeat Shao kahn (didn’t happen) kill blaze (didn’t happen) and take blazes power and THEN only
After he takes blazes power did he intend to kill Shinnok.....That’s obvious enough he thought he could only kill Shinnok only after taking blazes power as he flat out said he would intend to
Kill him only after taking blazes power. He didn’t even say that about Shao kahn he intended on battling and
Killing kahn without blazes power. That in itself also shows onaga believed not only
That he believed himself stronger than shao kahn (which ended up
Not being true) but also believed shinnok was above shao kahn and himself at that point. Look I’m sure with the kamidogu onaga believes he can beat anyone but without them even he knows
He cannot win a battle against an elder god despite having been shao kahns superior at one point. They’re both strong but overrated villains whom are just rulers of outworld and generally cannot touch the realm of elder god powers and when shao khan tried that in mk9
He was clearly wasted by them quickly and like I said, they and raiden had a long war with shinnok originally that lasted centuries and they narrowly defeated him where as killed kahn rather quickly
Even having been at his peak. Doesn’t that speak volumes of kahn onaga and Shinnoks power? Kronica is stronger then all of them and the only true villain stronger than shinnok. You can use amps as a means to gauge their power but w.o them
In their own power kronica is the strongest then shinnok then either kahn or onaga. With amps saying that onaga is the strongest or shao kahn is as logical as saying Shang tsung is stronger than both bcuz he now wears the crown and literally did waste shao
Kahn.
Shinnok was created to
Be the more powerful villain than shao kahn so even if you don’t think the movie is cannon the fact that they made Shang tsung the weakest then kahn and then shinnok speaks worlds
Him attaining blazes power didn’t even matter anymore because everyone did kill themselfes in the battle
And
It defeated the purpose of attaining blazes power when everyone’s already dead.

Only scene where Raiden is actually a badass and not a dumbass
Or when it took an Elder Gods powered Raiden to really kill Shao Kahn in MK9, but then Kitana could do it alone in MK11.
to be fair Shao Kahn was boosted by a bunch of souls at the end of MK9 but not during the fight with Kitana in MK11
