    I really like this piece. The design is lovely. The color streaks give it so much character. Great work William.

    Very enjoyable Will, Being a wet piece with a pith, would using CA in the pith areas inside and out reduce the chance of cracking when further drying.

    • @William_Kenny
      @William_Kenny  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks very much Brent, I turned that piece about 5 weeks ago and it hasn't moved a bit but CA would definitely stabilise it, that piece was an offcut from the winged bowl I done a few weeks ago you'll see the colouring is the same,
      Kind regards From Will 😊

    Very nicely done, William. Is there a purpose to parting it off before adding the finish?

    • @William_Kenny
      @William_Kenny  2 місяці тому

      Thanks very much Brian appreciate you watching mate, depending on the oil I'm going to use, if it's burnishing oil it stays on the lathe, lemon oil or Danish oil I usually take off the lathe so the piece is directly under the camera and can be see a little better, but if I'm not recording sometimes I oil whilst still in the chuck. 😊👍

    Do you know what the moisture count is on the piece of wood before you start turning it? And how long do you usually wait before you can start to turn a piece of wood?

    • @William_Kenny
      @William_Kenny  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi Dennis the moisture content was around 20 percent when I started, being ash if I left it to dry any further it definitely would have cracked, I find somewhere around 10 to 12 percent moisture is good to go on any species of wood, but sometimes I like to turn a piece wet just to watch it warp as it drys out, can be a nice effect,
      Kind regards From Will 👍

    Mr. Kenny
    As I new turner I am learning much from your work and teachings. About 3:53 you note going back to a Ball G? Looks like a carbide cutter, can you explain the size and preferences you like in these carbide tools? Thank you. David

    • @William_Kenny
      @William_Kenny  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for watching David, I was using a one inch standard scraper and then went back to using a 5/8"bowl gouge for no paticularly reason just trying different tools hope that helps you out 🙂👍
