Thank you very much for doing this comparison dude. I think it’s something that will be very important to a lot of people. I’m still using a 6th gen normal iPad. I’m looking to upgrade as soon as I can afford it but I’m keeping an eye on what happens with the way iOS uses memory. I’ve noticed that people with more powerful iPads than me are experiencing the exact same problems with music stuff. Cubasis 3 is a prime example. If it doesn’t work better on a better iPad there’s a big problem with iOS and music.
Useful vid! This hslpstms have less GAS for the new ipad. I'm still pretty happy with my 3rd Gen Pro (despite having had probs with the smart keyboard AND the motherboard. Apple quality is honestly not really up to scratch imo. I have a huge love / hate thing with Apple!
Hey Nu-trix. This is great! Thanks. FYI I've had a 2017 10" (lightning connector) iPad for a while. I've been wanting to connect more things to the iPad (i.e., use it more like a computer, as you noted) but decided to wait beyond just the upgrade to USB-C connectors. Decided to upgrade this year with the 2021 12" M1-based iPad - I was fortunate to have the funds to make it happen (we all know it ain't cheap). It just arrived yesterday, so haven't had a chance to use it much yet, but ... soon :) . I'm glad to see your comparisons, to help me understand a bit more about what this beast can do - and can't. In my case, I'm still probably another 6 months to a year away from being more "mobile" (still mostly WFH) so I'm using my Microsoft bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the new iPad, but I can also connect a HDMI monitor, my 61 key M-Audio Oxygen midi keyboard, Novation Launch Control XL, an external drive, and can run Cubasis. If any of the fancier DAWs become available for the iPad M1 in the future, I can consider them. So ... am I using the new iPad to full capacity yet ? Not even close, but I'm so much happier with my setup now and am hopeful it'll allow me to take advantage of new apps that may will use the new iPad hardware. Time will tell. New Apple Pencil and new Apple keyboard/cover? Avoiding those expenses as long as I can. But feeling pretty darn lucky right now.
Great vid. Thanks for sharing. One thing I would say, which taxes CPU big time is ...... Midi conversion. There is an ask called MIDI GUITAR M which takes your analogue guitar line in... And converts to signal to play out your choice of midi audio (eg synthesised sounds). It's a heavy process even on desktops. I would live to see how M1 performs with this ..
thanks for this great video. I’ve been wanting to get the M1 to resolve the auria pro quirks..- this video stopped me in my tracks. I’m curious, have you been able to resolve / improve your auria pro situation with either model?
just started using Beathawk and Moog Model D and started having major issues- did you simply have to stop using the apps that created the problem…or was there a way to make it work smoothly? I’d love a video or any info you have on resolving auria pro quirks or what you have learned you have to avoid! It’s a terrible feeling to run into these issues… I’ve loved auria pro so much, and now it feels like one headache after another trying to find apps that don’t cause a problem…. Do you have favorite apps that don’t cause issues? Thank you so much!
@@KidBess123 I really use Auria Pro only for mixing and mastering not for music creation. I never run synth apps in it, only fx. I create in ZenBeats or Gadget.
Great video I am just about to buy a IPad Pro M1 2021 541 GB quick question can the cubasis 3 do the same as Live on my Mac I mainly record my instruments alto sax and Roland windsynth and play backing tracks ?
It's been a year + since you made this video and sadly Auria Pro has not improved at all. I wouldn't label it abandon ware yet but it seems Auria Pro just isn't a priority for Wave Machine Labs. I don't know if they're creating something else or what but they still post answers occasionally to their forum and haven't said anything about the end of Auria. I bought an Air 5 with the M1 chip and it's been incredible on most everything. Auria Pro ran a bit better on some songs but on big productions it still has the same issues you have in the video. I always used Cubasis 3 too and I just bought Audio Evolution's DAW and I'm really impressed by it. The layout takes awhile to get used to but it's very cool...they even just released a Melodyne clone for vocal tuning, etc. I hate Auto Tune slathered on everything but Melodyne allows surgical procedures of errant notes and timing issues; having that facility on iOS is huge.
You are right. I stopped using Auria Pro all together. Lost to much work with it. I’m mostly using Zenbeats now and Cubasis sometime. I’ll look into Audio Évolution. Sounds interesting. thanks
@@Nu-trix Really a pity. I started using iOS music production apps pretty much exclusively in my home studio in 2015. The introduction of Auria Pro was really incredible, almost like Pro Tools on iPad. It had the Fab Filter plugs for years before they went AUv3. Now it's just a pain and as you say, perilous to work with. Thanks for the insight my friend...
This might be due to the M-Series being a different architecture to the A-Series. The developer would need to start from scratch and develop a M-Series version of the app. The developer optimized around the A-Series architecture that didn't really change drastically until the A14, I think.
I assume you’re operating both iPads with the same Apple_id. Were there any apps or iap which were complaining that you were using them on 2 iPads. ? I’ve got a medical app that was bound to the hardware ID and I had to re_buy the iap. Korg Gadget and others didn’t care. Oh I forgot were there app not running with the M1 processor?
I did not have any problem with the 2 iPads sync to the same account. I did backup the old iPad on my Mac then migrated it to the new iPad. It brought all the settings, presets and saved files for each softwares without any problem.
It has always been the same with Apple they give you the hardware then later on they will do the software. I wish it wasn't like that I had to wait ages before I could even use my 12.9 second generation because all the software kept crashing all the time. I think it was on IOS 11. 0.1 and I had to wait until it got up to ios 12.1.4 before all the things would work properly. Cubasis 3 has never work properly. but then again cubasis 2 has never work properly either. In Cubasis 3 is just different problems from Cubasis 2. Take your pick. Lol
Excellent comparison, the M1 is really the beginning of a new gen of iPads. Can't wait to see the progress on these new CPUs over the next few years.
Actually very impressed with how well the original iPad Pro holds up. I have a 2020, so definitely not upgrading.

Auria pro is just wishful thinking. Cubasis can do what it claims. This test proves that it can do it even better now. No-brainer.
