Hailey, a little tip if you're looking for writing lessons. Brandon Sanderson, the author of Mistborn, he's taught some classes on writing sci-fi and fantasy at a university (but he says it works for other genres just as much), and it was all filmed for youtube. You can literally type 'Brandon Sanderson lecture' and I'm sure you'll find it. There are hours of content where he talks about character creation, worldbuilding, plot, editing process, and even business stuff like getting agents, market, and etc. His lectures are REALLY good, and it's cool because it's an actual best-seller author (who I only hear people say great things about) who's teaching them, so he knows the business quite well.
sorenkrane Yeah, he totally does. I had completely forgotten about it since I don’t usually listen to podcasts. But I'm sure it's worth to check it out, Brandon has really good writing advice.
This month I read: By Your Side The Artist and The Dancer (wattpad) How It Ends Salt to the Sea The Bad Boy's Girl (wattpad) The Iron Trial The Copper Gauntlet The Bronze Key The Museum of Heartbreak All the Missing Girls Our Dark Duet The Cell Phone Swap (wattpad) Eliza and Her Monsters And I'm currently reading Made You Up and I'm listening to When We Collided.
I really hope you write a novel. I think it will be amazing. I will definitely read it. So nice to see a fellow Canadian reach her goals. Good luck! 😊❤️
I also have a lot of times when I feel like my writing is crap. it makes it so much more difficult to make progress in a project sometimes. Good luck with your novel!
Tip for future videos. Could you list the books and author in the description box as it will help us to see which books you have mentioned in the video💕
Alice English i think in one video she said she didn't want to do that because some people would just look in the description and skip out on the whole video. She doesn't want people to do that because she puts a lot of work in her videos and wants people to watch them. I'm not absolutely positive but I think she said this.
I really loved Eliza and Her Monsters too!!! (Like everyone else :D) I know is not like a summer read, but I don't even live in a country with seasons, so I really want to re-read Six of Crows duology this July :)
Eliza and her monsters sounds so interesting!! I saw it in the owlcrate box and I've been really wanting to read it!! I'm so glad to hear that you loved it! Hopefully I'll enjoy it as well!! 😊😊
I usually don't really like contemporaries, but The Fill-In Boyfriend surprised me a lot, it's my favorite contemporary novel and the only one I ever gave 5 stars! I hope you'll enjoy it too :D
I read The Reapers are The Angels by Alden Bell (probably my favorite read of June), The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan, Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin, A Court of Mist and Fury, and This One Summer (a graphic novel). Luckily all the books I read this month were fantastic and I'm looking forward to what's on my tbr
lol i read sooo many books in may and june. In my I read 8 books. And this month (june) I read 10 books and that's like the most amount of books I have ever read in one month. THE FILL IN BOYFRIEND WAS SOOOOO GOOOD
In June I read Emerge: The Awakening and the whole To All The Boys I've Loved Before trilogy which meant rereading the first two and trust, the third book is not a let down
I read Long May She Reign, The Devil's Arithmetic, and MISS PEREGRENIES HOME FOR PECUILER CHILDREN(finally), and my TBR is Hollow City, Library of Souls, Uprooted, The Shadow Queen, Dork Diaries #11, The Book Theif, and Once Upon a Time: Red's Untold Tale....I cant control myself...
On Writing by Stephen King! you don't have to be a horror/thriller writer to get a lot out of the book- it is half his memoir and half how he found his writing style and process. It is very informative and gives great insight into how it is being a writer 24/7. Love the vids! xx
If you like breezy contemporaries with a summer theme, I just read Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett and finished it in one day. It was really cute, but had some substance. I really enjoyed the characters and the setting. Also, one of my favorite books about writing is On Writing but Stephen King. Lots of great advice there, but it doesn't read like a textbook. Love it!
as a fellow young adult writer, I also struggle with comparing myself to other writers. but I'm sure your writing is amazing, and if you ever publish a book, I'll be sure to get a copy as soon as it comes out!
I had Eliza and Her Monsters on my radar for several months before I finally got to read it. I really loved it and I recommend it for everyone. I also loved Of Fire and Stars but I've read so many negative reviews on it. I think of it as high fantasy for people who don't really like high fantasy (me) 😊
I want to start working on my writing and since you are finally getting into it I think it's time for me too:) It would be so cool to see you write a novel!!
Well, I have read the Harry Potter books for two and a half months now and I really adore them. I don't know what I will read after them... but you always give me some nice ideas. :)
I am excited about A Court of Wings and Ruin. And I have been wanted to read Eliza since it came out. Great TBR. I totally want to hear how the writing book turns out. I'm actually working on my own book myself. Great video!
Just a little tip for writing or anything doing with personal creativity; DO NOT compare yourself to other people's. Of course you're not gonna start off being as good as your favorite best selling authors. But you can get there. Don't compare yourself to other people's work, compare yourself to your past work💜
I actually started reading Made You Up but I haven't finished because my family is moving and my books needed to be the first thing I packed because there are just sooooooooo many...
For July I know I definitely want to finish reading Armada and maybe read Battle of the Labyrinth (I know, I haven't finished the Percy Jackson series yet, but I'm working on it!!)
omg! I am so glad you found Flora Banks as annoying as I did! Everybody is raving about it but I had the same issues you did. I still need to read Of fire and stars too. I'm looking forward to Warbringer coming out. Enjoy ACOWAR.
i listened to two kasie west books this month and they where by your side and the distance between us and i loved them so much but one book i recommend is A letter to the lost by Brigid kemmerer i highly recommend this book i loved it i gave it 5 🌟 i have always wanted to be a writer myself because i have so many ideas of what novels i want to write and i do write all my ideas down, but I also questions my writing skills and keep putting myself down so ur not alone when it comes to low confidence
I felt very much the same way about The One Memory of Flora Banks, whilst a lot of it was very repetitive, there were other moments that didn't seem plausible at all, and on top of that, as you say, none of the characters were that likeable! Good luck with your writing :)
I really want to read The Fill-In Boyfriend. I only just finished The Unexpected Everything so I'm on a bit of fluffy YA contemporary run right now. But unfortunately A Court of Thorns & Roses is calling to me more (Yes, the first one. I'm a little behind :P)
Damn girl !! I missed you !!! I really need a good book to read because I recently just read too many "okay" books 🙄 And one of the "okay" books is the fill in boyfriend. The only reason that is keeping me from hating it, is because of a side character. Let me know how you feel about it tho !! I would love to know !! I am now reading "we were lairs" and it's another okay book for me .. I am now on part 4 . Page 151
have you read anything by Nicholas sparks? his romance books are good.i have read all but the new one called two by two. I haven't read a court of thorns and roses yet. I would buy your novel if you write one.i want the one by Emma as well.
Wonderful as always! I love your perspective on novels, and your opinions are so refreshing. I was also wondering, what are you wearing on your lips? It looks like a really pretty, rose-y color :)
I read Prince's Gambit, King's Rising, the Captive Prince short stories, Flame in the Mist, Illuminae and Gemina, and I'll probably finish Glass Sword tomorrow. I think this is the best reading month I've had in my whole life😂
Daenerys Targaryen Yesssss! It's my second most favorite triology of all times. I REALLY loved it, the books are fast-paced and don't have long introductions. I'm the kind of reader that usually struggles to get past the first 100 pages of a book because they are usually intoductions and there's no action, that didn't happen with any of the books in this triology. When I finished reading all the books, I just wanted to keep reading about the characters😂. I know that some people have a problem with the slave/master relationship on this books but it isn't what it seems. I really recommend them and you should read them😊.
Daenerys Targaryen Hahaha😂 Glad I did! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!😊 P.S. Just so you know and don't go to the book expecting something else, the books do have explicit sexual content and the story itself isn't super intricate, it's actually quite simple but very enjoyable.
I was wondering if you have any recommendations for the mystery genre.( I know you don't like that genre specifically, but I'm sure you have at least one recommendation.)
I was planning to read The one memory of Flora Banks but now I am not so sure because you don´t like it. Uffff. Kasie West Fill-in boyfriend is on my July TBR as well :) My friend recommended me Francesca Zappia first book Made you up. She really liked it. Are you planning to read it soon? Mindy McGinnis new book sounds great. I want it so bad :D
You should do NaNoWriMo during November!! It's National Novel Writing Month where you try to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It's a great community, tons of people do that, and you can plan ahead of time (so now, after you've read your writing books) and then by the time November comes around you'll be ready to go! And even if you don't write 50,000 words, as long as you write something, it's good!!

Hailey, it's so exciting that you're going to be writing books!!! It's exhilarating and scary and a lot of fun! There's a community of people (myself included) who make UA-cam videos about writing. We call it AuthorTube, and there's a facebook group for it. My July TBR includes THE DYING GAME by Asa Advic, SECOND CHANCE SUMMER by Morgan Matson, GIRL ABOUT TOWN by Adam Shankman and Laura Sullivan, and THE PURSUIT OF GOD by A.W. Tozer, and maybe something on SoonReads.
I did a creative writing degree and found that writing YA was looked down upon at my university as well :( Best of luck with your book! I recommend Stephen King's On Writing and Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird for writing inspiration and help :)
Great video! I read the lovely bones, the shining, and vicious this month and I enjoyed them all so much!! I am currently reading lolita, and even though this book is amazing and the writing style brilliant. I feel so grossed out by reading about pedophilia and super guilty for actually liking a book on such a controversial topic... oh well, I hope you have a great reading month
If your looking for a good writing craft book I recommend "The Mental Game of Writing" by James Scott Bell he talks about how to deal with stress, burnout, comparing your self to other writers and a lot more. I found it very helpful :-)
omg! your choice about books is always right !! and you should probably read the book" Queens of geek " first it is really good !! I have read and it absolutely amazing book ! and I love your all videos ! you are the best booktuber ! love you ! even WONDER WOMEN is a good book !! 😍😍👌👌👍👍💞💞💝❤💔👅

He does a podcast too that's got loads of helpful advice and prompts. It's called 'Writing Excuses'.
sorenkrane Yeah, he totally does. I had completely forgotten about it since I don’t usually listen to podcasts. But I'm sure it's worth to check it out, Brandon has really good writing advice.
yes Hailey, watch his UA-cam class! it is honestly priceless.
I'm a simple girl. I see Hailey post a video, I watch it immediately.

Honestly, the title alone for Eliza and Her Monsters is enough to have me hooked!!
Eliza and Her Monsters was amazing. Starting When Dimple Met Rishi. The Wonder Woman Movie was awesome. My parents went with me and liked it too.
I really loved Eliza and Her Monsters too!!! (Like everyone else :D) I know is not like a summer read, but I don't even live in a country with seasons, so I really want to re-read Six of Crows duology this July :)

I'm a third of the way through Of Fire and Stars and love it so far. Eliza and Her Monsters is on my July TBR :)

Queens of Geek is definitely worth the read! It's so relatable

Bianca Arzán is captive prince good?
Daenerys Targaryen Yesssss! It's my second most favorite triology of all times. I REALLY loved it, the books are fast-paced and don't have long introductions. I'm the kind of reader that usually struggles to get past the first 100 pages of a book because they are usually intoductions and there's no action, that didn't happen with any of the books in this triology. Daenerys Targaryen Hahaha😂 Glad I did! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!😊

I was wondering if you have any recommendations for the mystery genre.( I know you don't like that genre specifically, but I'm sure you have at least one recommendation.)
Don't have high expectations for the Fill In Boyfriend it wasn't very good in my opinion but Kasie West's other books are pretty good
I was planning to read The one memory of Flora Banks but now I am not so sure because you don´t like it. Uffff.
Kasie West Fill-in boyfriend is on my July TBR as well :)
My friend recommended me Francesca Zappia first book Made you up. She really liked it. Are you planning to read it soon?
Mindy McGinnis new book sounds great. I want it so bad :D
You have to read A Madness So Discreet!!!!!!
Read "On Writing" by Stephen King! It helps so much with anxiety on actually sitting down and writing. He covers the basics. It helped me soooo much!
Thank god! I was not the only one who hasn't read a court of wings of ruin :))))))))))))))))
You should do NaNoWriMo during November!! It's National Novel Writing Month where you try to write 50,000 words in 30 days. It's a great community, tons of people do that, and you can plan ahead of time (so now, after you've read your writing books) and then by the time November comes around you'll be ready to go! And even if you don't write 50,000 words, as long as you write something, it's good!!
i actually haven't read a book since the start of September(and that was city of bones- really didn't like it), and i hope to start reading again during summer, but ive been in a slump for 10 months... does any one have any tips? i'm hoping to read holding up the universe and the raven boys, and reread when we collided and anna and the french kiss.
Where is her shirt from??? It's soooo cute!
Can you please let me know how thise writing books are? I am in the middle of writing a novel and I always like reading about writing!
READ "THE SHACK" BY WM PAUL YOUNG!!!!!!
Here's a writing tip just write whatever comes to mind and keep on going. That's what Stephen King does then it either turns into a short story or novel.
Love your top!! Where is it from?
I'm currently reading the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring :) Have you read the LotR series?
Are the seasons different in Canada? In the US June-August is summer but you've said July-September as summer. September is very Autumn here
They're the same but since summer officially starts at the end of June and is until the end of September (21st) it's still considered summer I guess
I've never been this early YAASS I love you so much Hailey
NOTIFICATION SQUAD WYA??
Great video! I read the lovely bones, the shining, and vicious this month and I enjoyed them all so much!! I am currently reading lolita, and even though this book is amazing and the writing style brilliant. I feel so grossed out by reading about pedophilia and super guilty for actually liking a book on such a controversial topic... oh well, I hope you have a great reading month
If your looking for a good writing craft book I recommend "The Mental Game of Writing" by James Scott Bell he talks about how to deal with stress, burnout, comparing your self to other writers and a lot more. I found it very helpful :-)
