I used to travel on this as a boy in the '40s. It was steam at that time and , if I remember rightly, there was a loco at the front and a driving cab at the rear. There was no turntable so the train had to run backwards on one of its trips. The driver could drive the train from the cab at the rear (which became the front) by some system of levers linking the loco and the cab. Some time ago I read that the new train was driven by a 'super flywheel' which was energized at the end of each trip. Is this true?
This is the best and most comprehensive story of that line, thanks!!!
Very informative, thank you.
Live just a few miles away from Stourbridge . And have used this a few times . It's a very useful service .
I never knew this existed. Thank you for sharing it, and a well though out articulate presentation.
Pointing something out as someone from Stourbridge
4:43 the metal work represents The Stourbridge lion aka the pride of my town’s factories
It would make perfect sense for this to become an extension of the West Midlands Metro line to Dudley.
I heard rumours of midland metro may use this in the future connecting Stourbridge junction to Stourbridge and Dudley.
Never knew about this, maybe turn the music down a few notches though.
