  • Moalboal, Cebu is a favorite with foreign tourists and Filipinos alike. Panagsama Beach with its snorkeling and scuba diving experiences with millions of sardines close to shore, turtles, and Pescador Island nearby for scuba diving. Restobars and entertainment in the area provide another great experience. Moalboal is about 3-4 hours from Cebu City and has 2 main beaches, White Beach with a long stretch of white sand and Panagsama Beach with many resorts and activities. Rental of equipment and transportation is available. A bus from Cebu City to Moalboal is about 200 pesos. A taxi would be around 3000+ pesos.

    We visited Moalboal in 2018 and we really enjoyed our time there. We also went to Kawasan Falls. I saw a recent video about Kawasan Falls and unfortunately the area at the falls was heavily damaged and hardly anyone there, I hope it gets rebuilt in the future.

      We had some heavy rains about a month ago and I heard Kawasan Falls had been closed for some time. I hope to visit someday also.

    Warning about scooter rentals though, is that they want to hold your passport as collateral but they dont store it securely and it may be refused back to you until you pay for scratches or dents that you are not guilty of and/or actual damages overinflated. Your passport is too vital to be gambling with as collateral.

    Great info Rod, admire your efforts towards Cebu, (Moalboal ) tourism. I guess it will take a few years to get back to the heyday of yesteryear, sadly. I believe yours is the only vlogg with such detail? Take care on that widow maker. Regards to you both from us. Brrrr. LoL.

      Thanks Bob. It was a fun trip but too short. I stayed out an extra day and wish I would have spent a week maybe going around Negros Island. Stay warm Bob and Lina.

    Always wondered what Moalboal looked like...looks intriguing and comfy to me but that sure is a strange name in a country with a lot of strange city names. Naming cities should have been left up to Filipino poets who had more of a sense of flowing language no doubt. The Hispanic names sound okay to me but why name a city Dipolog or any of a thousand other weird or harsh sounding names (rant over)?
    Walking along the Aventine Hill (one of the 7 hills of ancient Rome), the apostle Peter had a vision of Jesus walking back toward the city. In pure shock and confusion, Peter asked, “Quo vadis, Domine?” which means, “Where are you going, Lord?” Jesus answered him, “Romam vado iterum crucifigi”/“I am going to Rome to be crucified again”. This vision encouraged Peter to continue his ministry which led to him being crucified upside down soon after (ouch).
    Quo Vadis was also the name of a 1951 movie starrying Robert Taylor, Deborah Carr, and Peter Ustinov...a Roman general falls in love with a young lady who has been converted to Christianity. Found out there has been a remake of this movie in 2001...news to me.
    Monterrey, California used to be a big time sardine town...but catching limits were lifted during World War 2 and that spelled the end of the sardine industry there. A famous local marine biologist, (Ed Ricketts who Steinbeck portrayed as Doc in his novels 'Sweet Thursday' and 'Cannery Row') when asked where all of the sardines went answered: 'they are all in the cans'. 😭

    Stayed in Quo Vadis a few times and would recommend it. It's been for sale for about 10 years but still no buyers. Before the dreaded c word was about 4000 peso a night post c was available for 1200 peso. Not sure about the rates now. The manager of the dive shop is British. so he was giving me the low down on what's happening and developing in Moalboal. At 12:49 when the tide is in you can see turtles within a few metres of the wall. When the tide comes in the sea grass comes out and the turtles come to eat it.

    Hello Rod, was the restaurant you mentioned at the beginning Detsy's or Betsy's? I am going to show friends around the Philippines including cebu Island. We will ho to Duma, siquior, bohol, Camigiun, I was wondering what beaches in cebu island you would suggest

    • @AmazingPhilippines1
      @AmazingPhilippines1  8 місяців тому

      Betsy's. Cebu island beachs: Some of the better resorts on the east side of Mactan island have nice white sand beaches. The north end of Cebu has Daanbantayan with a nice long beach area. Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island to the north have nice beaches and a short ferry ride over. Moalboal White Beach and Panagsama beach.

      Hotels have taxi contacts or just talk to a taxi driver. probably 3000-4000 pesos for the day.
