Thanks for making this video. I just finished and wanted to point out that on my job (2016 Cherokee Trailhawk) there is absolutely no way to get the alternator out without dropping the engine down on the right side by removing the motor mount bolts and having a jack under the oil pan. Even then it barely has enough room. Luckily the replacement alternator was a tad smaller than the stock one so it went in easier. Also, It helped a lot to remove the radiator bolts and angle the top of the radiator towards the front of the car by a few inches. This allowed me to actually get the top alternator bolts from the top without specialty tools. All in this was about a 7 hour job for me and I have a lift and experience working on cars. Not for the faint of heart.
Few things to add.. keep plenty of money around for the swear jar.. the air tube bolted to the unibody you can reach around between fog light and bumper cover to get to the nut retaining it, 2 bolts on top of alternator you can get most of the way out with a thin handled 1/4 in ratchet, after ac is unbolted you have to pull it down some it does not just fall down. Also putting alt back in the top 2 bolts will keep falling out. Its hard to hold alt up into place and start top bolts. When top two bolts fall out check in-between fan and radiator they love to fall in there. As someone else said can just remove under car cover by 3 or 4 bolts under the alt and bend it back. Getting to the alternator is easy, R&R it is hard part.
Thanks for the video! Our 2014 is doing some funky stuff. At idle the voltage is fluctuating from 12 to 14. The dash cut out and came back today. My wife has noticed the lights dimming and coming back at night. While driving the voltage stays locked at 14. Seems like it's time for an alternator, got 102k miles outa it.
Gonna assume the alternator fixed this issue? Mine's in a similar position, will randomly die when I come to a stop. Someties dies completely and need a jump.
I agree with @Justin Sowards, wear gloves. This vehicle will eat your hands for lunch. I replaced the coils and plugs in mine a few days ago (vid on my channel) and after I was done I had more chunks of flesh missing from my hands than in the past 7 months of working on the Vette.
I just take the engine fan today and everything was Front of me and I didn't remove Fender line The lower bolt just lose it a little bit you don't need to take him off . You did good job but Take a lot of time
Currently working on a customer's 2018 Latitude. She complained about a rattling/grinding noise. Found very fine metal shavings. The alternator's pulley is rubbing against the casing. Smh
All I did was remove the a/c compressor completely and it gave me enough room to take the alternator out the same way the a/c compressor came out all from underneath
May I ask why u have too remove the bottom cover and take the clips off the AC compressor it doesn't seem in anyway too be connected too the alternator
Having trouble sliding alternator back in. Seems that the mounting bracket of the compressor is making it ridiculously hard. Can I remove this? If so how many bolts. I see two
Definitely can't get it from the top? Looks like there's a lot of room over there. Replacing this on a friend's car soon so I'm not able to look under the hood.
Not positive on getting it from the top. All data showes thru the side also for faster times. Im sure if you remove more stuff out of the way you could get to it
@@coreelsteward4814 Yes. I did this on a 3.2 Latitude yesterday. You do not need to mess with the AC lines. His method as described worked well for me, even though the job itself sucks. Only recommendation is you don't need to take the entire cover off on the bottom, I just removed three screws closest to the wheel well and bent it out of the way. Otherwise, he's pretty spot on. Also, I do recommend gloves, my hand got ate up by the fan shroud.
Good info but … been to brush up on instructions,,,, keep saying oh do this first etc. plus you weren’t clear on how to remove the belt, you just brushed right past it
I am having my Alternator done in a shop, I took 1 look and was like "fuck that". now that i see the process. glad i choose to pay the 2.5hours to have it done by someone else. I have also heard the Alternators in these 3.2L are junk and are a common issue on all Cherokees. hences the reason a new Alternator from Chrysler runs about $700 CAD

Thanks bro I was struggling hard until I watched this video! Thank you so much for making this
What were the symptoms on your kl?
This job suckssss!! I’ll sell this jeep before doing this again 😂

Somewhat helpful, you are everywhere bro

or just work on cars for a living and your hands become the same material as bricks lol

Thanks alott.! Did it my self today and save some money! Sure was a pain in the a## to get it done!!
Genuinely curious what alternators y'all are using. Most of the big box store ones seem to be unreliable and have terrible reviews.
Big help. Thanks brother

Why you watching this video since you know how to do it ?
Thanks for the video. Jeep fiat crystler out there making things as difficult as possible
About to change mine. You said to remove to top engine cover. Does it help to do this job?
Doing it right now I don’t see why you would
Is this accurate for 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 3.2? I just need confirmation that you DO NOT have mess with AC Lines..to change alternator
I did not mess with ac lines
@@emanuelagache Where did yall buy the replacment alternators? The reviews on all the ones from the big box parts stores all suck.
Just got done. I felt like I just got jumped and I’m sitting in the shower crying….
The hardest part might be trying to hold the two motor bolts in place while trying to align it and get them started.
Thank you so much bro

Loosen the a/c bracket it will help with getting the after back in
i think its bullcrap that you have to remove the lower rad hose to change the serp belt
Anyone have any issues with getting the wire off the alternator?
Its like they tried to replicate the PT cruiser with the way they jammed everything under the hood...lol
Thank you!!
What is the amps for an alternator for this Jeep?
Either 180amp or 160amp depending on tow or standard package
you removed way too much stuff.. I left the air box in and fished it out through the fender well and did all my work from underneath the vehicle
That's what I was thinking. He did a lot of extra removal here.
Any feedback would be appreciated..

I just wanted to make sure before this job started..thank you so much!

Lol. Wise choice
2.5 hours? It took me 7 hours and I'm fairly experienced. Sounds like you did well there.
Nasty video!!!
