  • Let's wrap up this weird Honda VSA diagnosis so we can give a recommendation to the customer.
    Before making the final call, a second opinion is always good to have. Who better to ask than Keith "Identifix" DeFazio of New Level Auto!!
    Enjoy!

    That's a badass tech support line you got there🤣. You are supposed to do the same procedure again with the brake pedal instead of the button after the button. But yeah like i said in the first part, it didn't seem like it would work. Good share Ivan 👍

    Honda has had problems with the VSC/VSA system for awhile now. For ex, 05-09 Acura TLs with the 6 speed had problems with the VSC/VSA setting codes and being over intrusive. There was a reflash update that basically dumbed the ABS system down to all but the most severe wheel spin issues. Depending on the owners driving habits and conditions, that may or may not take care of it. I had 1 customer with an 06. Each time it said 'replace the module'.. The service manager at his Acura dealer told him that when he starts the car, turn the VSC/VSA off before he moves..That was their 'fix'.. I know your problem is different, I'm just sharing. Good vids, Ivan!

      Yeah...always being worked on, relied on leaded fuel to keep from grenading, got single digit gas mileage, 200 whp was only available on full-on race cars, 100,000 miles was a pipe dream...
      Yeah, I remember.

      Ok, you have a point. They were relatively easy to understand and work on...
      However, they don't hold a candle to the comparative power to emissions ratios of the more modern, sophisticated computer controlled trucks.

      Yeah, that's surely good. When the VSA light used to come on in my Odyssey it went into limp mode. This was due to the oil level being low! Add a quart or so and back in business. I guess things have changed since 2005. lol

    Rule of thumb before replacing a module. Always check your power and grounds connected to it.If they're not correct you could put a million new modules and still have an issue.

  • @danman9017
    @danman9017 5 років тому +3

    strange that software will get corrupted in a module .i would try disconnecting the battery and relearn steering .or see if steering wire going to abs module is not shielded from abs wheel sensor .because this is happening at high speed. the magnet field could send false signal to that wire. or check if the traction control work at low speed in mud or snow soon lol. thank for video i always enjoy that guessing

    I too noticed the steering wheel is not centered when driving straight. I bet performing an alignment will cure this. You could also try to recalibrate the steering angle sensor with the wheel clocked as you are driving on straight road. What is the steering angle sensor position while driving straight?

  • @monkeywentbananas

    You missed a step when You had pins 4 and 9 jumped together. You first need to reset ABS and then VSA. To reset ABS with pins 4 and 9 jumped
    1. Depress brake, turn ignition on, when ABS light goes out release the brake, ABS lights again, depress brakes again until ABS light goes out, release the brake and ABS will flash twice. Then reset the VSA button like You did in this video! Worked on 2005 Honda Pilot.

    • @sblagg527
      @sblagg527 8 місяців тому

      To do the reset for ABS (and yes you have to do that first) you jumper pins 4 and 9 together, and then you do the steps with the brake pedal as described, but for the VSA you REMOVE the jumper and then you GROUND pin 9, then you follow the VSA reset steps. Again you do NOT jumper pins 4 and 9 together for VSA, you straight ground pin 9 only.

    Hey Ivan
    Don’t post much on videos and replies. Just wanted to let you know if you replace the VSA/ABS module on the vehicle your working it does require programming with I-HDS. Launch or Autel will perform the “ All Sensors” function on the installed module. The module comes pre programmed with software from Honda. Just in case you want to do the repair for the customer.

    I have ridgeline. that light comes on if tire pressure indicator alerts. make sure your tires are equal size and pressure. dose it mean vehical stabilizer assistance ? driving with a soft tire and u steer correctively may activate ........sudden movements activate it at or above 30 mph?

  • @psdaengr911
    @psdaengr911 2 роки тому

    When it says check the the alignment it doesn't just mean the car tracks straight but the steering wheel must be centered when driving straight with the tires inflated to cold specs. The Honda service manual says the car must be driven in a staight line onto a level spot and the steering wheel NOT moved from that position. If the steering wheel isn't in the neutral "drive straight on a flat surface" position, soon after you start driving the warning light will reappear.
    FWIW, If the problem is entirely with the VSA modulator, then the "programming" is the manual ABS reset followed by the VSA steering centered procedure at the end . A second hand modulator costs ~15% of a new one, a rebuild of your failed one is ~25%.

    After switching steering wheels f5om foam to a leather-wrapped one, and driving about 15 miles, the VSA light in my truck has been on. I tried numerous things, including those utilised here, and still no change. Steady VSA light, no exclamation triangle. The interest thing was, after grounding the #9 pin on the odbii port, an additional light on my dash illuminated. It took a moment to figure out; it was the fog lamps indicator. My truck did not come with fog lamps, and the light remained on even after turning off the ignition and removing the key. I said screw it, disconnected the battery again, and now we're back to having the VSA light on, but at least no battery drain.

    Hi I have a Honda CRV 2008 model. I have a strange problem. Out of the blue, when light switch is set to auto on my light switch on the left side of the steering wheel....IN DAYLIGHT, backlights and instrument lights work as they should, but when it gets dark, backlights turn off and instrument lights work. TO get the backlights to work i Need to set the light switch to OFF position.. but then of course instrument lights AND farlight, the one showing with blue icon on the instrumentpanel ( I don't know the english word for it sorry ) that doesn't work. I can test this on the daytime with blocking for the light on the sensor sitting on the inside of my front window. I have a window wiht rainsensor. PLEEEASE help!

    I think it was a faulty steering angle sensor itself. I have the intermittent error and the code is pointing to the data intermittently stopping on the steering angle sensor just long enough to trip the SAS and make the car run funny as it thinks it’s sliding on snow. It’s a 2015 Honda Pilot. I just ordered a new steering angle sensor which is easy enough to install (in the steering column), it only cost $77.00. I did reset the sensor on flat road and later I could tell by the live data that when I was driving straight it was reading about 90 degrees off!

    Was it just me or were you holding the wheel slightly to the left when driving straight? That could cause it, I would have the alignment verified before replacing the module.

    • @Cheepchipsable
      @Cheepchipsable 4 роки тому

      Verified on the scan tool. Perhaps the wheel was not on straight, or it really did need a wheel alignment.

  • @tomvleeuwen
    @tomvleeuwen 5 років тому

    Are you sure the wheel speeds are correct? Sounds to me like one wheel is slightly larger or smaller than the rest, making the VSA think you are driving a corner and hence marking the steering angle faulty. Or maybe someone fitted an after market wheel bearing with the incorrect number of magnets?

    There is lots on the internet about VSA problems and the $2400 module. But one guy found a wierd Y-Shaped fuse for the VSA system and one side was blown. That fixed it. I'm a BMW fan. We have the same issue with bmws' it's called the "tri-fecta" and it involves a rebuild of the abs module. Your symptoms match the bmw on spot on.. angle indicator, abs tye-in the works. With bmw they have a guy on ebay that will fix them WAY cheaper than a new module .. to the tune of 50 bucks vs 800.. You might want to take a look down that path..

      you can see for yourself on youtube.. there are micro wire leads get broken due to thermal expansion and contraction and to that the car's vibration- that is the heart of the issue. They simply go in and re-solder them. see here: ua-cam.com/video/bdWxl5MM4eE/v-deo.html -- I say simple but it's not do to the heavy use of scholastic resin that the unit is encased in.

      8power0 from someone who programs it’s not feasible for most people especially to do all makes. Every manufacturer handles their subscriptions and pricing differently. With some the software is free and all you need is a short term subscription. Others you need the short term subscription and a larger one time yearly fee to download the software. It’s gotten a little better over the years but it still a pretty fractured environment. Plus, you can’t use all of the software for different makes on the same laptop because they don’t play well together.

      Hell when you get old, and all your friends pass away, you got nowhere to go. Another day of sunshine is always a good thing. I think in 2019 Im going to install A Lift. I dont want to end up looking like Scotty.

    got a honda oddessy 2007 first going down road and sparkplug flies out! and left particles in cylinder. so engine shot so that cost me about 2700 dollars with labor and low mileage used engine then after a month of driving yellow flashing triangle light goes on and engine barely running but made it home and there it sits till i put maybe another two or three thousand in it to fix that. oh ya ill get it fixed and send the got ham thing down the got ham road! happy these things didnt happen out in middle of nowhere! todays cars or trucks with computors that suppose to make them run better actually do the opposite! and then the cost of repairs then to have some other issue that everytime something goes wrong plan on burning a few thousand dollars on it to fix! got a 2008 dodge caliber engine light went on with red flashing lightning for code throttle control module engine dies on freeway so found out how to restart so okay spent 250 on the got ham thing for new module going down road engine light gone five minutes later engine light on again flashing red lighting bolt! engine dies on freeway AGAIN! pulled over got it started again go to autozone code throttle control module WHAT! so they tell me computor has to be erased because it doesnt recognize repair and they don't have code eraser have to find garage that has one WHAT? thought computors suppose to benefit vechile not create another gotgam problem! so ya git it fixed git rid of the gotham thing TOO! then go find old school vechile that can run on it's own with out a gotham computor yes it might eat a little more fuel but it will git there! 😒😒😀

    There may be a reflash for that actually and would of been worth the 10 dollars to try. Figured the module would be expensive on that and a used one may be a viable option if can even find one lol. Very interesting case study

      Buy definition the flowchart can only have failures the engineers thought of in the first place. The same engineers who's job is to eliminate these faults by design. Flash can get corrupted in rare cases. I'd think you are correct in saying the module is dead. Thanks for the videos.

      If you have the 3.5L engine, Change the engine oil and just drive for 3500k and before replacing oil. These engines are known for giving you sht for not changing the oil.

    I feel sorry for the owner, in my case, I'd drive it like that not minding the light. The only problem is when the current owner decides to sell the vehicle. He'll have to fix the problem or sell it real cheap. It sucks!

    New module and to calibrate all sensor. I know Honda’s , and btw even w the HDS which is the honda scanner interface it will loose data after 30mph I find that ridiculous all Honda’s suffer from abs modulators.

      Buying the car is the cheap part. If you insist on every single thing working as advertised at all times get ready to spend more per month than the car/lease payment itself, or get a warranty if you can find one that are not crooks.

    I had the same problem on a 2008 Honda Odysee. I turned off the van when the light came on, turned the van back on, pushed the VSA button and the triangle showed up. Let it sit for a few minutes then drove the van half a mile. Pushed the VSA button again and the triangle went away. The VSA light never came back on.

    Nobody that knows how to drive needs this stuff, and for folks that do need it, bring the wallet or, do some off road driving and learn how to handle a vehicle there.
    Then but an older rig without all the dealer installed crap.
    The old Kelsey Hays ABS was good enough, folks are baffled when they get a new wheel bearing with wires hanging off it, but, that's life in the big city.

      I agree with the driving skills part but, I will say from personal experience, electronics sense the onset of wheelspin a heck of a lot faster than people can...just saying.

      IF people adjusted to weather and traffic conditions,they would NOT need "nanny options "

      The fact Americans seem to gravitate to big, heavy vehicles with a high center of mass, doesn't help. It's ok to rely on one's wits in a Ford Ka, whereas one'd need Ken Block-level of reactions to keep that hulking big lump of Hondoo iron in check if it steps out.

      in stormy,icy ,rainy, or snowy weather,most turned over or stuck vehicles are SUVS,many with 4WD
      so "features " like stability control, forward collision ,traction interlocks- just make TOP HEAVY
      chunks of PIG IRON more susceptible to collision or upset
