We think alike.
Rust is one of Ford's options when you purchase a vehicle.
No, I was told it's standard equipment . You certainly can't opt out.
I would opt for no rust.
Mines 20 years old not much rust
Why isn't chevy on this list? 3 year old trucks rusting away.
Savage comment 🤣 😂
That rust is ridiculous. These companies need investigated. I swear they've been painting a layer of salt or weak acid of some sort underneath the paint...
The rusty drivetrain parts probably sat on a shelf in a damp warehouse for a while before the truck was assembled. I don't think all the parts get assembled as soon as they are made but I agree, these companies want you to buy another truck, not make it last 15 years
It depends on where you live. If they salt the roads in the winter nothing prevents it.
Ya they put a crappy layer of paint on the undercarriage even in Texas My f150 has rust everywhere
Where I live they use salt, salt brine, and other corrosive isht on the roads. Not to melt ice, to dry the road completely! Tons and tons and tons of it. And cars that are not constantly treated for rust are falling apart.
Ford is currently cleaning house, they fired their old quality control department and should hopefully not have as many issues
I’ve worked on ford trucks in a fleet situation, found that the seal was the problem,it’s a bit of a job to get to the seal, but there’s no other option,
That’s what happens when these trucks sit for over a year waiting on computers.

The 04 1/2 is the best Dakota of them all.
17k miles and that amount of rust. Surface rust or not, that’s insane
17K miles, yet out in the Sun, rain and weather for 1+ years, can do that, depending on the climate.
Not sure how people thing car manufacturers, world-wide, will warehouse ALL the cars and trucks _waiting for parts_ indefinitely .... what would that cost?
I mean many collectives frowns upon garages - because *garages* are as American as Rock Music or _The Corporation_ or similar!
Rust belt would possibly be even worse
What I though. I have a '21 Civic with heavy exposure to sand/salt in the winter months and its not even a comparison to this truck.. Ford weight savings I suppose
Its not just the rust that's concerning. Look at how much the universal joins are leaking grease.
You have to keep something in mind about rust: anything that's durable enough to stop rust will end up being seen as a serious pollutant since those same qualities make it harmful to nature. A stronger paint would be illegal and you'd vote for the very politicians banning it.
@@USERNAME1-x5u Surface rust like this happens all the time on daily vehicles, I highly doubt your civic would see the same abuse as this pick up truck and its why the owner bought it and not a civic.
Damn now my ‘93 looks like it barely has rust…

What upsets me is the overall prices of new trucks nowadays, this should not be happening
And they kinda suck for compared to some of the older ones. I basically stay away from anything newer than 2004 because computers but it's getting more and more difficult to source those in decent shape.
Right, they purposely move toward more complexity and computers less autonomy. Not for your sake either. Unfortunately most people do not pay attention while they are being destroyed.
If they did not pay 40 dollars an hour we could afford one
I just heard the MSRP is going to go even higher in 2024.
I make $112,000 a year, been in business 15 years and they wouldn’t approve me for a new Ford F250. . . Someone told me you have to make $150,000 a year to buy one of these trucks now. Guess I’ll never own one! Happy with my little 2018 Honda Accord “Hybrid”! Best $32k I EVER spent! 47 MPG!
On our fleet in northern Canada we have noticed that around the 2019 models and newer the inner vacuum seals are the cause for this noise , from about 20,000 k to 60,000. The earlier trucks seem to just fail and not hold vacuum ,but were quieter. We do not have a reliable Ford dealer here ,downtime is way to long so we just change them ourselves using the correct Rotunda tool.

Bad hub seals on a new truck? That sucks.
Had a Ford ranger with bad vacuum hubs. Instead of buying a new one, I stretched a condom over the diaphragm and sealed it with liquid rubber. Never had the problem again😊
The vacuum hub seals have a two piece seal that goes over the axle shaft? Its been a few years since I've had to tear into the knuckles of a Super duty.
Turn up the radio. Had a seal issue years ago.
Been a common problem on fords that use that type of 4wd shaft to the wheels. The wheel seals on the rear squeak when rotating. Seen it dozens of times on ford trucks dating to the mid nineties
Eric O at SMA auto had a similar one BUT on an older like 03 to 07 WITH the vacuum actuated 4x4. He found his using a smoke machine.
Robert is your mother's brother
Keep up the great work Ford
if its not broke dont fix it, ford cant even do that which requires not even work !!!
O ya the salt and sand does a number on those seals in the north. I'm replacing seals weekly. The problems seem to have started when they started sending install shims with every seal. Might be worth looking in too
A simple car wash every once in awhile even during the winter times will solve a lot of those issues I mean it is a Ford so you can't solve all the issues there's way too many for that
Was parked near the fertilizer plant or the pickle factory, where the rain run off, is splashing right next to where its parked.
Those vacuum hubs have *always* been a problem and truth be told I'm impressed Ford has stuck to their guns so hard with them.
My 2019 had a problem with that.
Ahhhh it’s a super duty bud. Those are manually engaging hubs. Like they’ve always been. The f150s have IWE’s and if you don’t clean the check valve on the vacuum lines the lines bleed pressure and partially engage the hub. Unfortunately most ford customers are unwilling to clean the filter in the valve themselves and don’t think spending money paying someone to do it is worth it 🤷🏼♂️

🤣🤣🤣 spot on!!!!

Sounds like the inner knuckle seal. I’ve had about a dozen of those make that noise but all were on the 2017-19 trucks.
I bought a scion xb with 30k, traded it in 9 years later with 175k. 7 years was in Maine. When I traded it in, the entire suspension system was original. I had replaced the front pads/rotors. The rear brakes, struts, ball joints, tie rods, steering rack, toe links, anti roll bars...all original. Granted, it was a 2400 pound cars, but it still illustrates that companies can design and build parts to handle at least 80-100k of hard use...there's no excuse for problems on a 2yo truck with under 20k.
My brothers 21 f350 7.3 gasser did the same thing. It was inner hub seals causing the noise
Not the rust?
Thanks ,Now I don’t have to search for part 2 😂

Knuckle seal at wrong depth. Common failure here in rust belt on 2017+
A lot of the new trucks being sold today were sitting in empty unprotected lots for years either because of the pandemic when car sales dropped or because of the chip shortage.
I have an '18 f150 4wd that sounds like a LF bearing is going out the faster I go. Put brand new wheel hubs on the front, still same noise. Doesn't change when 4wd is engaged but gets louder when steering is turned slightly left. Still haven't found out what's making the noise. Bought it last year, put about 25k miles on it, and still drives fine other than the noise. Sometimes, it gets a little louder for a few days and then quiets back down. On the lift, I don't hear it at all. On the road, sounds like a classic wheel bearing sound.
My brother's '21 F250 u- joints squeak and sounds like this truck.
Mines in the shop atm for that same noise sitting right around 17k miles too. Ford service advisor said it’s due to knuckle seal. Common issue I guess. Kinda embarrassing driving around in a new truck and sounds like the brakes are going bad 😂

I worked in a body shop that did warranty work for a Ford dealer that didn't have a body shop. They would send us water leaks all the time, all different models. The regional service manager told me they don't do any quality control anymore. None. The company figured out that it's cheaper to fix the cars that people complain about than it is to have quality control. That made me think "They must be building a bunch of shitty vehicles and selling them to people that don't know any better" A problem is a lot easier fixed on the assembly line than fixing every car individually. Their bean counters must be incompetent too!

I'm wondering if it has castor shims in the upper ball joints from the factory to combat the death wobble issue. That will cause the axle shaft to be off center in the tube and will bind up at the wheel bearing. It may also cause the inner seal to leak.
My 2020 f250 does it and has yet to be fixed. Waiting to see what you find.
