I had relay fail, but, it worked perfect on the bench. Internally there is a resistor. I think the system found it was faulty and didn't like it. Used Foxwell obd reader, it told me which relay was faulty. Also said several other faults, but were ghost faults. I fitted two relays from dealer, about £17 each. Worked perfect ever since, bar all the other known problems 😊.
Nice video! What where the issues with the roof you faced before replacing the relay? Was the roof not working at all? I have some issues with my Z4 E89 roof and hope replacing this salmon relay can fix it...🙂
I didn't give any reasoning as to why I replaced the relays as it's widely covered on the internet , this is purely a video to show how to replace them, but... Replacing the relays will NOT cure issues with the roof operation. Replacing them is a preventative measure to stop them from welding closed and buring out the pump motor. If you have issues with your roof then you'll be looking for defective microswitches or broken wires, and this is something I'm definitely not going to do a video on as it's far to complex for that, but there are some very good discussions on the Z4 specific forums that are helpful. I've only had one issue with my roof, and that was a split hydraulic hose, and for that, I replaced the whole hydraulic lines and wiring loom completely.
@dvs3308 Well, I hope it's a simple fix and not too costly. I did all my own work on my roof, and it cost me just under £1000 in genuine parts. A specialist here in the UK posted the other day that he charges around £4000 (can't remember the exact amount) to do the full replacement, so it's not a cheap job, but it does depend what's actually wrong, and I decided it more cost effective to do the lot in one go as its a lot of work so once its done then I won't need to do it again.
Hello, i’m facing an issue with my E89 where the speakers are making static whine noise would love to send you a video to hear your take on it. Whether it’s a speakers issue or maybe an amplifier? It’s making me crazy.
I would suggest you have an issue with the MOST fibre optic network. If there is a break or failed component in it at any point then everything on that network won't work. That includes the amplifier, CDC, USB, AUX, Bluetooth etc. I'm sure I'd seen a post about this very same subject earlier today, but can't find it now. You'll need to check everything on the MOST network. To do this you can unplug the MOST plug and one of the two fibre optics will have the red light, if there's no red light then it's either the previous module in the system or a break between them. There are some specific videos on UA-cam detailing how to do this.
Hi bmwz4mods, I’m using your step guide for a different mod but I’m stuck. I checked your step guide in the forum for mobile phone cradle removal. Is there any way I can reach out to you with the problem I have. Thx for your help and advice.
keep doing what you do bro , great content , thank you for sharing !

Quite a common BMW relay so don't go cheap.

@@BMWZ4Mods Ah, OK! Thanks for explaining 👍. I have an appointment for end of this month to check and repair my roof (here in The Netherlands).

@@BMWZ4Modsoops, I hope it's an easy fix. Luckely I just bought my Z4 a couple of months ago and still have warranty.
@@dvs3308 ahh, not so bad then as it's under warranty, good luck. Please let me know how you get on 👍

@davidgorey5116 morning, the best way would be to PM me on the forum. Alternatively, send me an email to anubis4120@googlemail.com 👍
Hi @bmwz4mods just checking if you got my email. Thanks David

No battery disconnection?
As long as you don't activate the roof or put your key in, then it'll be perfectly fine without disconnecting the battery.
You jumped a step in video.................remove all junk out of boot first.
😂 Good point, I've had owners turn up for a cruise control retrofit, and a boot full of stuff slightly hinders me getting to the battery!
why you have so many? haha!
Lol, it was a photoshop from quite a few individual photos of the same relay 😂
