He really was a class act all the way. I don’t think I’ve ever been so upset as hearing a musician passed as I was with Malcolm. Maybe Karen Carpenter was as sad.....
Yes he was so modest, not even sad well i am part of that bend too, no that is because what Angus and Brian do on the show, something is going to happen tonight. As rhythm guitarist he was impeccable!
angus too... if you ask angus, everything was malcolm, malcolm taught him how to play, setup angus's amps to sound good, wrote the songs, played the solos even until he decided to sit back and let angus run around on stage and yet, they were both the best at what they did
Phil can SWING. That's pretty much all there is to it. I don't think swing can be taught. Either a drummer has it or he doesn't have it. Most drummers don't. Phil does.
Just looking at the 2 up from Angus and Brian but when the backing vocals were needed the rest of the band came forward and sang then stepped back and let Brian and Angus take lead such an amazing organised band.
Malcolm Young is one of the greatest creators of songwriting riffs & hooks ever. Not only in rock, but across all genres of music. That Malcolm never felt the need to take credit for his achievements tells you a lot about the man.
Malcolm was someone who knew exactly what he was doing musically and sonically. Phil Rudd is also a key ingredient to the bands sound and power. RIP Malc
Malcolm is completely true. Yes there is the thing what the Stones did....Rhythm an Blues. Rock n Roll....Harder and more perfect than Beatles or Rolling Stones
Malcolm shows a smidge of his genius here that he kept under wraps. His depth perception of rock vs rock and roll vs metal is phenomenal. He knew exactly what kept fans coming back and he should he created it in the first place. Thanks for the memories Mr Young.
I don't care what anyone says. Phil Rudd is the best drummer for AC/DC. He is without doubt the best drummer they ever had. He is right on every time and he plays with great power and tightness. No one beefs up the sound of the band like Phil. When Phil, Cliff, and Malcolm lay down the rhythm, it is unbeatable! Add Bon or Brian and Angus, and you have the greatest kickass Rock 'n Roll band ever! There is only one other band that could match them and that was THE WHO.
Totally true...way back in the 1954/5 Sun studio sometimes one of the guys would say that they'd hit a bum note in a take and could they do another...Elvis would say, "nah leave it alone the feeling was right..that's what matters"....Sam Phillips was the same...he used to say "The last thing I'm looking for is 'perfection'."
Malcolm is just so bright when it comes to how their music needed to sound. Him and Angus together made the music flow. Even though Malcolm is gone, he still lives on through Angus’s gifted guitar picking and riffs. Totally immortalized in heaven and recorded music for generations to enjoy.
My heart goes out to the members of AC/DC especially Angus, for standing side by side with someone in band has an affect on you! I got teary when I heard of Malcolm's passing!
he keeps a beat, that is all. Is that what you mean by rhythm? LIsten to the drums in Who made who and esp blow up your video, they are WAY more interesting, more accenting and less predictable. There is a comment only two below where he refers to him as a drum machine, i think thats a pretty accurate summary of his style.
@@eastpross Lmao you don't understand AC/DC, they're all feel, not "interesting" or accents. It's all about swing, the other guys didn't have that. I liked Chris cause he was so far off from phil that it just pulled the band in a whole other direction, but Simon was like blue balls, it was almost like phil but nope.
First time I've heard Phil admit that he technically has quite a few problems as a drummer. Most stars will never admit that, yet nearly everybody has quite a few problems with their instrument when compared to textbook ideals. He's one of my favorite drummers for his style ideas and feel, and I will always love his playing.
So sad that Malcolm passed away - especially in the way that he did. He was so vital to the AC/DC sound, as well as responsible for so many of their iconic riffs. Truly a legend, as much as Angus.
+malstewa ,I don't think he's talking about Phill's drumming. He's showing the diference between a rock band and a rock n roll band and how the drums sounds in each one. AC/DC is a rock n roll band with Phill, Simon or Chris in the drums . Don't see ghosts where are any (by the way, they call Chris back and I'm so happy about it, he deserve it)
Phil Rudd 🥁 still one of the all time greats who continues to inspire .. Malcolm (RIP) deserved a state funeral 🇦🇺 for what he did for music 🎶 will be missed but his music will live on forever
Tom Petty also described Rock N Roll the same way "there's a Swing in the roll" and here is Mal saying the same about the swing in the Rock N Roll. Love it.
I remember when I was 15 ( back in 79/80) a guitarist of a Portland Oregon band called “Rising tide” stopped by my folks house to talk about a rental property my folks were managing and he heard me banging away on my guitar and he walked into my room and he said Dude you are killing it who is giving you lessons. I said Malcolm young is and he looked at me and said you couldn’t have a better teacher keep it up you sound great. I think of Mal and I always think of that day! Miss you Mal.
Thank you Malcolm!!! The guitar teacher I never met. I’ve learned so much from all those AC/DC albums. You taught me how important a simple sustained “A” chord can be.
Malcolm knew his craft intensely. His reasoning for people coming back to see them, reigns true in my world. First saw them in 79, with Nugent and went on to see them 47 more times up to 2008. Ya never knew what was gonna happen on the stage, in the parking lot, in some local alley, bar, etc. AC/DC brought magic and mischief to town, each visit. Saw most of my shows in NYC,NJ,MA,MA and PA. Each tour, I go to ever local arena to see them. At least in the greater metropolitan area. Me and my buddies would party hardy before all shows and go and rock out and get some vented aggression out by air guitaring through the shows, LOL. It was the best vibe ever, for a rock and roll show. We came in legions to see them. Me and my buddies even made a "BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SUCKS" banner which we brought to many NYC/NJ shows. People used to cheer at us, LOLOLOL. Man, those were the days.
Phil Rudd ! You Rock ! AC/DC ain't AC/DC without you. Glad you are back. Your new Album made 2020 something special, a light at the end of the tunnel while we still walk through this global disaster. Malcolm R.I.P.
If it aint broke don't fix it. Thank god they stayed true to themselves and what they knew sounded good. Whenever these new kids on the block play an ACDC cover the whole joint erupts, you can't resist their music. Thanks boys
Love when Malcolm is talking about the swing in their music. Best example I've heard of that is in Go Down....and the version of it they played in VH1 Live was just phenomenal 👏 👌
I first saw AC/DC on Australian TV in late '74 or early '75. They were playing "Baby please don't go." The lead singer was was wearing a school girl uniform with an Annie Oakley style wig and knickers and he lit up a cigarette as part of the act (imagine doing that in a tv studio these days). The lead guitarist was dressed as a school boy who looked about fifteen but could he burn up the fretboard! At the time you had Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Bad Company doing the rounds but Acca Dacca had such a distinct sound. For me, Bon Scott was and always will be their lead vocalist.
Malcolm was the brains behind the sound of the band. To me, it seems that Malcolm is one of the worlds most underrated rock geniuses. RIP Malcolm Young, and thank you for all your contributions to rock music!
Wonderful man with the best talent. You are sadly missed Malcolm. So glad my godson has your name included in his. You were a first class guitar man. First class drummer Phil. 😂😅🤗🎸🧡🧡💖❤️
I currently play lead for a band, but I’ve always felt that I gravitate more towards that same similar rhythm style that Malcolm does rather than Angus. Its awesome to just hook into that riff, beat those poor strings to death and have fun with it, keep it sounding nice and solid. Like you can have fun and not have to worry about hitting a wrong note or messing up in a solo
This is hands down one of the best AC/DC interviews I have ever seen. Too short though. Alot of Malcolm showing why he was one of the most important parts of the band. All the guys really don't like talking about themselves so this was a nice break from that.

Malcolm so humble, didn't even mention his own brilliant contribution. Legend.
He really was a class act all the way. I don’t think I’ve ever been so upset as hearing a musician passed as I was with Malcolm. Maybe Karen Carpenter was as sad.....

@@michaelstephen819 good is just satisfactory. It does the job. When you compare that label to the actual output I think he's underselling himself.
The more i learn about Malcom, the more i realize how genius he was/is!
Malcolm sounded like such a cool dude, very humble, and well-spoken! Rest in peace Malcolm Young!
Rather surprised he sounds that young at his age. Could have sworn he'd have a deeper voice being that old
Malcolm is right about Phil. He is the real sound. No other drummer that has drummed for acdc come close to Phil.
I liked Chris but Phil kept the beats perfectly even though he wasn’t flashy or fast playing, dude never missed a beat
100% Agree. The other guys are good, but Phil is part of the AC/DC sound.
Phil can SWING. That's pretty much all there is to it. I don't think swing can be taught. Either a drummer has it or he doesn't have it. Most drummers don't. Phil does.
Malcom was the heart of AC/DC. Phil is the motor.
First time after 40 years someone finally explained AC/DC to me... it’s that swing
Just looking at the 2 up from Angus and Brian but when the backing vocals were needed the rest of the band came forward and sang then stepped back and let Brian and Angus take lead such an amazing organised band.
who else is watching this in 2020 and is thinking that Malcolm would be proud of Power Up
Malcolm Young is one of the greatest creators of songwriting riffs & hooks ever. Not only in rock, but across all genres of music. That Malcolm never felt the need to take credit for his achievements tells you a lot about the man.
How brainy he is with music talking and behaviour.. Its beautiful to watch him

Both Keef's and Angus' biggest inspiration was Chuck Berry.
Of course
Johnny Rios , goes back , loads of rock n roll around back then

AC/DC also sounded better after Cliff Williams joined
Totally agree - Phil Rudd is such a powerhouse and gives AC/DC a rock solid foundation. I feel the same about Cliff Williams.
@@Autopsy6 It's a shame Cliff Williams wasn't on the Let there Be Rock album as that would have been considered AC/DC's finest work.

That's for sure. Especially with Axl playing with Angus. Makes me sick!
Malcolm and Angus, two of the hardest working Rockers ever

why do you feel bad for him?
oh. I almost forgot he had dementia. right
