oh my god your the only person who feels the same about the song "something". those low strings and cellos pulseing literally sound like a living breathing organism weeping, crying out for something in the middle of the woods. like its the last of its species. some mythological creature. its the loneliness most depressing, hauntingly beautiful thing ive ever heard
man these commenters really wanna put you through hell by recommending a crow looked at me lol. NOT a fun album, but i do think it's worth listening to at least once in your life (and probably never again after that)
I listen to it periodically. It's a good album! Not for every mood and maybe not ideal for your party playlist, but I have listened it through some 20 times over the years.
its great seeing more people discover these masterful albums, heres some recommendations based off what youve listened to on the channel so far, all of them being albums i personally consider 10/10's swans - soundtracks for the blind (experimental, post rock & dark ambient) brave little abacus - just got back from the discomfort, we're alright (midwest emo) spiritualized - ladies and gentleman we are floating in space (shoegaze, psychedelic rock) godspeed you! black emperor - lift your skinny fists like antennas to heaven (post rock) fishmans - long season (dream pop, psychedelic) fishmans - 98.12.28 otokotachi no wakare (dream pop, psychedelic) massive attack - mezzanine (trip-hop) duster - stratosphere (slacker rock, slowcore) dandelion hands - its all in your head (dark ambient, slowcore) quadeca - i didn't mean to haunt you (art pop, folktronica)
When you get a chance you should listen to A Crow Looked at me by Mount Eerie which is made by the same person behind The Microphones, He made it for his wife who unfortunately passed from cancer and he uses the album as sort of an outlet for him to grieve. It's so beautiful but it's easily the saddest album I've ever listened to
Man seeing your reaction to this one just makes me wanna see you hit up more of the /mu/core classics! Maybe In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel next? Similar kind of vibes.
Oh shit, I just stumbled upon your Radiohead reactions which I loved. Then I come looking through your feed and see this. I am not ready to bring myself back to the emotions I used to feel when I listened to this album when it came out. Saving for later...
your reactions are so amazing!! if you haven't heard already, grace by jeff buckley is a must-listen. there are very few records that get close to the magic the glow pt 2 has, but that's one of them in my opinion :)
this album follows a breakup that Phil Elverum had (the main guy of the Microphones and Mount Eerie), where he just shut himself in a warehouse/studio and recorded all of this. He's very DIY and outdoorsy, so thats were all the nature and animal references come from. Loads of people tellling u to Check out A Crow Looked At Me by Mount Eerie, which is a name he took up instead of The Microphones. Caution with that one: it's sadder and more devastating than this, albeit in a quieter way. Cool review!
This album was at the absolute height of the left field Indie Folk music explosion in early 2000s among artists like Neutral Milk Hotel, Iron & Wine, The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, The Shins etc
you should really check out mount eerie next!! it was his last album on the microphones for around 20 years (before he adopted mount eerie as the name) and it starts exactly where the glow pt 2 ends. very conceptual and out there, very emotional but in a different way
The first time I ever heard The Moon I literally had never had a more surreal musical experience in my life. I genuinely cannot think of another song or even event that made me feel that way. The closest is the empty and unsatisfied but ever so relieved feeling of sitting in silence after beating Dark Souls 1 and processing my emotions of beating this game that brought me through hell and back to the backdrop of a nameless female singer... So much felt and so much to process in that first listen. I genuinely CANNOT begin to describe the way it felt to me, it's just something you need to experience yourself.
there's a live version of samurai sword you should listen to (on a channel called "lepista nuda") which focuses alot more on the main melody and the vocals. really changes the way you hear the studio song.
love this album, you've got to check out mount eerie and don't wake me up!! mount eerie is kinda the sequel to this album and don't wake me up is kinda the prequel, both are great albums on their own. they're also a lot less sad
Other people have already said it, but you should definitely check out A Crow Looked at Me. It's devastating but it's one of the most beautiful albums ever.
i love ur reaction, felt like listening to the first time along with you 😢 did u heard twin fantasy by car seat headrest? if not i think it'll be an awesome reaction
Ayy you finally gave it a listen! Yeah this is a pretty overwhelming album to digest on first listen - most of Phil Elverum's work is like that. While I'm at it, I'm gonna suggest again that you give You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr a listen - that album is a much more fun time than this one
@@doctordog2048yeah i tried that recently and thought it was really not that good, haven’t listened to swans since. what album do you think is a good place to start with them?
“I hope he has a wife that loves him so much”
Yeeaahhh you might be outta commission for a while if you ever decide to listen to A Crow Looked At Me😬
Good lord that is an album truly not meant for enthusiastic music appreciation, powerfully tragic.
I’ve listened to that album once and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to listen again
that one should be left alone
God, I still remember the first time I listened to it, when it had just came out. First listen, first song, immediately cried.

SO MUCH THIS. It's very emotional, but not anywhere as devastating as A Crow Looked At Me. It's a total journey.
