The Arai XD4 helmet is one of the best ADV/dual sport motorcycle helmets on the market today. The XD4 is built on a composite fiberglass shell that has an intermediate head shape, DOT and Snell ratings, and only 3.6 pounds of weight. Features include the flip down visor with its integrated vent ports and the adjustable peak, both of which are entirely removable. And with a high quality shell maximizing safety, Arai is able to pack more comfort lining and padding in places that would otherwise be taken up by safety oriented materials. However, over time your XD4 can show signs of wear that you not only see but can feel. Your cheek pads and liner may be worn and need to be freshened up. Or, your shield may be scratched to the point it's no longer safe to use. When considering a new set of interior pads, we courage you to consider the initial fit of your XD4 when new and how it settled in after your purchase. You may have noticed that the snug new fit loosened up more than expected; so, when replacing your cheek pads and/or head liner, you may want to consider the next size thicker. This will provide a very snug fit at first, but after settling in, you will have the firm comfortable fit that you are looking for. The firmer the fit, the quieter the helmet will be and the less it will move around on your head.
In addition, make sure to inspect your shield, since years on the road may have taken its toll and left it scratched and unsafe. If you've always wanted to add a tinted and/or no-fog shield, we have them available as well. Take a closer look as Chase gives an in-depth product spotlight on the Arai XD4 adventure/dual sport motorcycle helmet.

Came from a Shoei Neotec and bought the Arai. Didn’t think there was anything better than the Shoei but I was wrong. The Arai fits super good (Shoei aswell btw) but difference for me was that it still was super comfortable after riding a full day. The venting was something that I noticed aswell that was really nice.

I have had one these helmets for about a year and I am torn on it. I wore my cycle gear brand old helmet for about 10 years and wanted to get something nicer. I tried on one of these and it felt amazing on my head. Everyone gave it great reviews. I waited a while because they aren’t cheap and I wanted to be sure I really wanted it. I finally pulled the trigger on one and I’m luke warm about it.
I like the fit, feel, face shield, and it’s stability. I like being able to remove the shield and wear goggles on desert trips.
I don’t like the weird howl it has over 30 MPH. I have figured out it comes from underneath the ear area. It sounds like being in a jet engine and I can only get rid of it when standing. I think if I had a fairing it wouldn’t be an issue. Even with ear plugs, it is very loud and hard to ignore.
The other main complaint I have has to do with the strap and buckle. The “D” ring side is short and is hard to fasten, especially with gloves on. The rings basically hit the shell and you can’t get your fingers in there.
If you’re able, try a friends on a ride first. It’s a lot of money for a helmet you might be so so about.

The whistle is caused from the front intake vent on the very top of the helmet. Mine does the same thing but a small piece of electrical tape on each button on the vent has stopped the howl.

@@NorthWestMotos I thought so for a while too but those don’t make much noise. The noise mine makes is more of a jet engine in full afterburner.

The noise issue for me was due to resonance. Basically, the shell is stiff, and wind noise gets passed onto your skull via resonance, so even earplugs will not help all that much. I solved it by stiffening the peak itself (I added a strip of wheel weights under the peak, so it wouldn't flutter at high speed), and by carving out deeper ear pockets (I carved the foam layers). This solved it for me, because my ears and earplugs are not pressed against the foam/shell as much anymore. Now I can comfortably ride at high speed with my shitty ADV bike windshield. Doing this probably dropped at least 10-15dB, making a huge difference in comfort. Only drawback is that my speakers are now further from my ears, which means I have to increase their volume if I want to hear my music, but I'll take muted music over unbearable noise any time of the day. I now also have the option to use earplug speakers if I want.

Bought this as my first motorcycle helmet ever. Best thing I ever put on my head. Coming from mountain biking, and riding with full face helmets a little bit - this is whole different beast. Heavier, but it is so supremely comfortable. It's quite a tight squeeze to put it on and take it off especially, but I attribute it to my large ears. Many other helmets would catch my ears and they'd stay basically folded inside the helmet unless I awkwardly shuffled helmet on my head. But in this everything falls into place as soon as it's fully on, and it's like a glove for my head. Love all the air venting. I got the black one, but due to all kinds of air flow being in the sun doesn't feel like it's baking my head if you're moving at least a little bit.

The XD-4 has been my favorite helmet but there are a couple improvements that I would appreciate. One more detent to crack open the shield in cold air. I’m going to disagree with what Chase said about cracking the shield open, it won’t stay cracked open. One more detent to have the shield cracked open please.
The second improvement I would appreciate would be another 1/2” to 1” of length on the DD rings to operate the system better.
Other than those two areas, the XD-4 is amazing to wear, great field of vision, comfortable, good air flow/control and quiet for a dual sport/adv helmet with a visor.

    1. Your website doesn't seem to allow for searching by head shape. To me this is just as important as size. Revzilla does it.
    2. Arai - would you please make a long oval ADV helmet. I've been an Arai guy for ages but ever since Bruce corrected my fit at the 2013 Laguna Seca MotoGP, long oval 2XL, I will never buy the wrong helmet again. My current Signet-X is perfect. My current XD4 leaves a big red pressure point on my forehead, it's painful.

I have a helmet like this
My problem with the helmet is
The front is very close to the lips
My size is 59.60 it sits on my head relatively well
But the front of the helmet really touches the mouth
I tried a bigger size and it was already too big
I only realized this after a few rides
    It really sucks

    • @RandomGRK
      @RandomGRK Рік тому +1

@@dyl940 All depends on your fit and type of riding. The XD4 isnt a bad helmet. I still run mine as my street/Adv helmet. For dual sporting I use a Bell Moto 9s Flex. In the Arai, I have to wear ear plugs, even going down the road for a few miles whereas my old Shoei RF1200 I could commute around town and it was really quiet. I only wore ear plugs for sustained freeway speeds. Incredible helmet. If you are doing mainly Adv riding with little technical trail, I'd recommend the Shoei Hornet X2. That's a helmet that you can run with no ear plugs for the slower stuff, like doing sections of BDRs and such but it wouldnt be my dual sporting suggestion. If you want a do everything helmet, the XD4 might be it. I ran it dual sporting and touring. Just a heads up, I believe they are releasing the XD5 in 2024. Google it, you should get some hits.
