This 27 day 795 km walk along the Camino de Santiago Francés or French Way starting in St Jean Pied de Port going to Santiago de Compostela passing over the Pyrenees mountains through Roncesvalles, Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos, León, Ponferrada and Sarria in late summer of 2023.
The Camino de Santiago, known in English as the Way of St. James, is a network of pilgrims' ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried.
The Camino Francés (French Way) is the most popular of the routes, with the most deep-rooted historical tradition. Typically it takes at least four weeks to cover the 790 km long route, allowing for a few days rest days along the way.

Thank for this spectacular journey! I am deeply impressed with the cinematograhy, the stunning views, the insights into the whole camino process and your discipline in mastering all of the challenges you faced!!
Thank you!
Beautiful photography and a drone!!❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
I've walked the Frances twice, thank you for allowing me to relive my journey in such a beautiful way. Salvador+Primitivo+Portuguese this summer! Buen Camino!
My pleasure. I am glad you liked the video and wish you a Buen Camino...
Thank you for a wonderful video of your trip. You give hope to one day soon embark on this wonderful journey. 🙏🏼
I am glad you enjoyed it and wish you have a Buen Camino!!!
God Bless You & thanks !!🙂
Thank you very much!
This video is bringing me so much peace. I can't wait to walk the camino.
I am glad you enjoyed it and wish you a Buen Camino!
Brings back good memories from my walk back in September! :) Gorgeous video by the way!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
A beautiful piece of artwork. Thank you for doing it for us all Rolf 👍🏽😃❤️
Thank you. I am glad you liked it.
What a great video, and it brings back so many great memories of my own camino in September 2023. Many, many thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool motion sensor camera!
Glad you like it!
Excellent camera and editing work‼️💯☺️👍
Thank you so much 👍
You did such a great job with this video! Thanks for sharing your experience.
You are so welcome! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Wow - excellent photography, drone footage of your Camino Frances! The second wow was your pace and distance. I will be doing my second Camino Frances in May and it will take 41 days with 4 rest days added. Hence, my appreciation for your strength and endurance, especially with the rain in Galicia.... Well done and Buen Camino in life!
Thank you very much. Walking the Frances was much better than I imagined. I am not a very fast walker... i just walk a few hours longer. I wish you a fantastic Camino!!!
Great video Roflf. I walked the Camino Frances on October 2023 and it was such an amazing experience. I plan to do it again sometime in the next 4 years.
Fantastic! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video Rolf, well edited and all that extra walking for drone shots and walking shots was appreciated if not by your legs ! Showed so much of the experience, territory and gave people a good idea of what to expect. More power to you that you've done it twice ! I was on a cruise, took train from A Caruna to Santiago to view the cathedral etc. In doing so I walk a very short distance on the Camino and marvelled at the pilgrims enroute. :)
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it. Walking a Camino is a great experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, a very true reflection of the experience and very accurate and helpful. A great portrayal of the experience. Loved the video and photography work. Have watched twice and will do agaian. Great work. Well done
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Heading out in May so very nice to see what I have ahead

Well done video, and just the video I was looking for , since I will be walking the Camino Frances at about the same time this year.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Muy gracias Rolf Saludos!!!
Gracias a ti! Saludos!
Amazing coverage and videography Thank you Rolf
Glad you enjoyed it
Danke! Beautiful pictures and well assembled. Amazing that you cover all these distances and still find time to do all the filming!
Thanks for sharing your Camino with us.
Greetings from KaterOnBike, who biked the Camino from Germany to Santiago. Check it out 😊
Thank you.
Great video nice to see all parts! Question did you use two trekking shoes?
Thank you. Yes I like to take 2 different pairs of shoes on my walks. Sometimes I just take 2 different trail runners.
All the roads are magical
Indeed!
I loved your journey! Thank you sooooo much 😊
You are welcome!
Great video!
Thank you very much!
Your video work is so good it doesn't distract at all from the feeling of hiking along with you. Thank you so much for your excellent work. Just beautiful. Also for your kind reply to my other comment. Much appreciated. I watched "El Norte" and enjoyed it so much I had to tag along on this one too.
Thank you!!... I have quite a few more new videos coming up in the next few months.
@@rolfscaminos I better subscribe then. Thank you so much.
another great video!

October
This brings back memories of my own Camino walk! I’ve shared my story on my channel. Let's exchange stories and tips!
I'll check it out!
Hi Rolf, is it possible to ask what drone / camera equipment you used to shoot such an amazing video?
Sure...80 % is done with my phone a Samsung Note 10 plus. The the drone is a DJI mini 3 pro and also use a insta360 One R for the following shots. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hola Rolf , muy buen video .y me los vi todos . Estoy pensando seriamente hacerlo este año , comenzando en Burgos . Vamos a ver si es posible , un abrazo
Gracias! Si necesitas cualquier cosa o mas información ya sabes a quien preguntar. Un abrazo fuerte y saludos a todos!
Castrojeriz is beautiful, best lunch on the camino there
One of my favorite Villages of the camino.
Thanks for another very nice movie! BTW, at 1:16:00 : it is also the Camino del Norte that joins the Frances in Arzua, not only the Primitivo. I have done 3 del Nortes and will do the Frances next. Can recommend the del Norte for your next adventure, though. Ultreia!
Thank you. Thanks for the correction. I actually I edited out the part where I said Norte...as I got confused. I actually have walked the Norte and will edit that video soon.
@@rolfscaminos Thanks, I am really looking forward to that!
Vou matar minhas saudades peregrino, ainda bem que tem legenda.
Obrigado!
Hi Rolf...enjoyed your video.
When did you arrive in Santiago?
I think you were not far behind me.
I arrived after completing my third Frances on September 24th.
I will be arriving in Seville on the 29th April to walk the VdlP/Sanabres....I found your videos very helpful for planning that.
Ultreia et Suseia.
Thanks. I arrived a few days after you. Buen Camino on the VLP!
Watched a bit, beautiful scenery... but where are the people? Meeting people and making friends, to me, was one of the great things about the Camino, as opposed to other long distance trails. Of course one cannot photograph them without changing the experience, and potentially upsetting others (I for one do not like being filmed).
So... I'll just leave it at that.
I'll almost certainly be walking it again in a couple months, if I can get my act together. And it will be whatever God wants it to be.
Most people are very much like you, and don't want to be filmed... So I do not film them. ;) I wish you a good camino!
Hi Rolf.I haven't walked a camino yet. Came across your channel in planning a Portuguese Coastal Camino. Do you or would you suggest ear plugs in some of the accommodations. I have found ear plugs helpful on plane rides and noisy family members when trying to sleep.
Love your channel by the way.😊
Hi John, Thank you! Yes I would highly recommend ear plugs as sometimes you may end up with some major snorers in your dorm. Bon Camino!
I’m trying to decide what time of the year to do this Camino can you tell me when you did this ???
September to first week of October.
Rolf, thanks for sharing your videos. Can you also share what photography equipment you used?
I like the “follow me” or tracking when you walk from the left side of the frame to the right. Hoping to read your reply. Thanks
Buen Camino
80% of the filming is done with my phone a Samsung Note 10+. For the following shots I use a insta360 camera which shoots video in 360º and finally I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro Drone.
Muy buen video Rolf!! En que fecha comenzaste a caminar?
Octubre... Pero todavia hacia much calor.
Finally saw all the video.. Great information… Is it easy to get a bus ride or train from Madrid to Pamplona the day of ?or should I pre book that segment .Gracias
Thank you. The train is the best way to get to Pamplona. It is usually a good idea to book a few days ahead as the fare goes up significantly the later you book. Also trains are very popular so the do get sold out specially on holidays and long weekends.
We will be doing our first Camino this September 2024 via Frances and we will be flying to pamplona You mentioned you took a bus SJPDP I wonder if the bus will accommodate our 2 bikes Thank you for sharing your journey just subscribe
I think they can. I have seen people in Portugal transport their bikes. You can always try the backpack transport companies.
Thank you very much
Fiquei neste albergue em Boadilla
;)
Hello! Loved the video. One question: at around 56:15, you were on the road instead of the track. If I’m doing the Camino, how would I know that I’m staying on track? Is it still pointed out? Thanks :)
I am glad you liked the video. Many times the Camino runs parallel to the road. The first time I walked the Frances I also had serious rain on the same stage but I walked on the track and it was like walking in a river. You can always use an App like Buen Camino to make sure that you are close to the actual Camino track.
Hola! Great vid Rolf! What month was this?
End of September/October
Thanks Rolf!
I like you videos. you are a very fast hiker.. chapeau! the way you do your videos impresses me. which kind of equipment do you use for active tracking? a dji drone and something else? regards. buen camino
Thank you. I have a insta360 camera. I love it as you do all the framing afterwards.
Fantastic camino Rolf! Well done. Can i ask what date you arrived on sdc? I am doing the portuguese central.(my 3rd camino) in late october and the amount of rain you endured concerns me!!
Thank you. I arrived in Santiago last week of September. I would not worry about the rain all too much. I did the Central right before tha one and basically had 10 minutes of drizzle. You never know... I wish you a Bin Camino!
@@rolfscaminos thanks for that! Buen Camino!
Wow beautiful, we arrived Oct 4th, trying to figure out how we missed all that rain 😂
Thank you! You were lucky... it was my wettest Camino.
@rolfscaminos yes, I was thinking back and rain was forecasted, it was cold but then the last week was a unexpected heatwave, almost 90°. I was wondering how your Spanish is?
I grew up in Spain... so I speak it.
Great Video….I plan on Starting the Camino Frances mid April this year…Question.Should I pre book my sleeping accommodations?…..I was told it was slow time ..Any suggestion are appreciated
I only pre booked the first night in St Jean.Other than that, the only time I will pre book is if I want to do a very long stages so that I don't have to search for a place after a long walk.
Thank you… Good point amigo …
In a quaint albergue on the Camino trail,
A weary pilgrim's face turned pale,
For the curse of the snoring pilgrim was near,
And the thought of sleep filled him with fear.
The peregrino's snores were loud and deep,
Echoing through the room like a thunderous beep,
No matter how hard he tried to block out the sound,
The snoring persisted, relentless and profound.
The poor pilgrim tossed and turned in his bunk,
His patience wearing thin, his nerves in a funk,
He cursed the snoring peregrino with all his might,
Wishing he could escape into the night.
But alas, he was trapped in this noisy hell,
With no escape from the snoring spell,
So he resigned himself to his fate,
And tried to find humor in his sleepless state.
For what else could he do but laugh,
At the absurdity of this snoring gaffe,
And so he lay there, wide awake,
Counting the hours until daybreak.
And when the morning finally came,
He bid farewell to the snoring shame,
Promising himself to never forget,
The curse of the snoring pilgrim he had met.
Fantastic!!!
I'm doing the Via de la Plata. I'm traveling with brother who has some health issues. I would like to know if you had good phone and internet connection on the route.
I always get a local Movistar SIM. They have very good coverage. I can't remember not having coverage.
@@rolfscaminos thanks!👍
you are welcome!
What do you use to film? I just watched the movie the way and now very interested to walk this hike
Mostly my I just use my Samsung phone, but I also have a 360º camera and a small drone to get some different angles.
@@rolfscaminos thanks , is there any specific stand or brand of 360 camera and drone? do you do color grading or editing later on? interested to get into travel content creation
Sorry for the late reply. Insta360 is the camera. I don't do much on the color grading other than matching the different footages. I use Davinci Resolve Studio.
How was the performance of your Zamberlan? I have the same model I used for hiking? Comfortable?
They are very comfortable and great on slippery or rough terrain going up and down. I do prefer trail runners for smooth or hard asphalt surfaces though. The workmanship and quality is amazing and they still look like after 12 Caminos. My only real complaint I have is that they are quite heavy and bulky.
@@rolfscaminos thanks for the feedback...Buen Camino
You are welcome.
First of all, thank you do much for your video and then, how can I register my name for the Camino de Santiago this July?
Ji. I am not quite sure what you mean.
@@rolfscaminos I've heard that, if we want to do camino de Santiago we have to register our name in advance in order to be authorized to do it right?
@@alirezakhadem9988No. You don’t register-you just go
Sorry for the late answer i just saw this... No need to register... you just go. You do need to register at the red to get the Compostela Certificate that says you walked the Camino but it takes a minute to do and you just have to do it before you go into the office in Santiago to pick it up.
What date did you depart St Jean?
The last week of September.
Nice video. Is it fair to say the last 100km from Sarria is a bit lbland and a bit boring in terns of views.
Thank you.
Tiresome. Isn't it?
Sometimes it is... but it's always worth it.
I watched you carrying your trekking poles and not using them and when you did use them you used them as ski poles rather than using them as a walking aid. If you had used them correctly you perhaps would not have fallen over just 9 minutes or so into your video. My apologies for being a pedant, the video was going quite well so far but I see so many people who have bought the trekking poles but haven't learnt how to use them.
I'm rather surprised at your comments about walking at times to avoid pilgrims. Part of the joy of walking a Camino is the people that you meet. I'd admit sometimes and some pilgrims I too would try to avoid....
Thanks for your advice. I was not using them when I slipped on the gravel... Maybe they would have helped... maybe not.
I tripped over tree roots and rocks a few times and having trekking poles in my hands meant that I stayed upright. At the Cuz de Fero I heard a girl had slipped and broke her nose. The people that phoned for an ambulance were told "stick her in a taxi" by the hospital.
