    Humans need to feel a sense of progression with their dopamine. Tik tok gives that dopamine with no actual progression in life.

      everyone's concern over my brain chemistry is pretty horrifying.
      I foresee dopamine wars in the near future where governments monitor your brain chemistry and regulate how much dopamine your allowed based on social credit scores.

      Dopamine hits with small clips on TikTok ARE a thing, but in normal developed brains, we are not driven by a quest for dopamine 24/7. If you have a neurological condition like ADHD, there is a dopamine deficit that needs to be remedied.

    Finally, a piece about this trend. There is no reason for young teens and adults to be diagnosing themselves with serious mental illness. For teens especially, giving them a community based around something can lead them to believing their entire identity is that thing. In this case, serious mental illness like DID or BPD. My generation did it on Tumblr and Livejournal back in the day. It’s a new form of attempting to fit in and create a personality during formative years, but it’s dangerous.

    Most teens want acceptance and being seen as special, and claiming mental illness is what helps them feel like it. This therapist was staying politically correct and as long as no authority figure with a mental healt certifications decides to talk to teenagers firmly and strictly, this trend is never going away.

I theoretically don't qualify anymore as of this year but I have been in intensive therapy for the past 2 years including a year of DBT. This disorder isn't a joke and CANNOT be self-diagnosed and not as a teen. I was pretty sure I had it before I was diagnosed, but my life was literally on fire and I was sitting in a psych ward for the 5th time in a year.

It came from traumatic experiences as a child as well as was genetically passed down from my mother who had BPD. There was a team of psychologists and psychiatrists who diagnosed me at a respected Canadian mental health hospital over a period of a few months. My symptoms all lined up, for years.

I’m now on medication but I still don’t feel like my old self

    • @Arkylie
      @Arkylie 2 роки тому +1

      Nobody *wants* to have a mental illness. What people typically want is an explanation for why they struggle with various feelings and issues and such.
      I'm in my mid-forties and have recently become aware that I'm definitely Neurodivergent (lifelong, obvious symptoms, but never had the vocabulary), some sort of Executive Function disorder (almost certainly ADHD, though other possibilities exist), and another I'm still looking into but a friend is convinced I am.
      Realizing that my lifelong, life-affecting symptoms actually match to recognized conditions has given rise to a lot of mixed feelings, but one big one is "Oh! I finally have an explanation for why I can't do what other people seem to do so easily!" And much less self-blame over what is pretty obviously a disability, as in, it has consistently gotten in the way of me organizing my life and progressing in my projects no matter how many different ways I tried to get around it.
      Nobody *wants* to take on a mental health issue that they don't have. (Some do anyway, due to that human suggestibility issue, but it's not on purpose.) But we want answers, guidance, a direction to move in, steps to take to make our lives easier. And not everyone has access to professional tools by which to do that, so we make do with whatever supplies we can find, and hope it helps.

So they’re very real symptoms first thing I’d do is make sure hormone levels are balanced and for females that it’s not PMDD. It’s constantly misdiagnosed and can start at 13!

    Sometimes self-diagnosing isn’t a bad thing. It’s a good step to getting to where you need to be with getting a proper diagnosis but it’s wrong to say you *have* the condition rather than say you *believe* you have it or *suspect*. Not everyone can afford to get a proper diagnosis and therapy and medications are incredibly expensive so self-diagnosis can be helpful to people. There’s just a certain way to go about it. When I was a teenager, I suspected I had depression and some form of anxiety. I got diagnosed. I have depression and two different forms of anxiety. So it’s not all bad. Please try to understand other peoples situations.

    • @BroJo676
      @BroJo676 3 роки тому +10

      Self-diagnosing never helps because you'll subsequently put yourself in potentially dangerous situations, especially when it comes to medication. I've met many people always taking pills because of any symptom they have, then self-diagnose complicated health conditions, and develop illness far different from the self-diagnosed one because of their ignorance and ingestion of medicines they should've never taken in the first place.
      Plus, do you really believe a depressed person would be filming themselves in a very romantic or dramatic social media-oriented setting? Heck no. These adolescents are doing this for attention and it needs to be combated, high-key.

    The term 'social media' is misleading when it comes to some of these platforms. Seems like suggested posts send you down a rabbit hole of personalized confirmation bias, or to get you to buy something. Ironically designed to keep your eye contact with a screen and wallet rather than with other people. It used to be that I'd see suggested posts from friends in RL. We would chat and make plans to meet up and socialize face to face.
    IMO this is the pinnacle of hidden revenue business model. You get what you pay for lol. It'll be better once we have more paid social media options. Then this mixing of social and business algorithms won't be an issue.

    2021 was the hardest, darkest time of my life. I was physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually BROKEN. But now I feel genuinely GRATEFUL and BLESSED that I had to go through that phase because GOD has graciously REVEALED Himself to me in miraculous ways. I am fortunate that He allowed me to know Him at a very young age, but this year is SPECIAL because of what WE (yes, GOD and me) have been through last year. He showed me how POWERFUL prayers truly are when I started to focus on WHO HE IS rather than who I am, on WHAT HE CAN DO rather than what I deserve. The experience was MAGICAL. He showed up BIG TIME and assured me that HE is indeed a LISTENING and RESPONDING GOD. Oh how my faith has skyrocketed as a result! Now more than ever, I have very bright HOPE for my future because I experienced first hand how RELIABLE God is. And for that I will forever be grateful. GLORY BE TO GOD, MY EVER FAITHFUL FATHER. ♥️♥️♥️

    Parents - don’t buy your phone a smartphone! Cell phones are not necessary for kids who don’t go anywhere but school. We lived without them before, and we can do it again. But if you still believe your child needs a phone, just get them a flip phone that can’t download apps or use the Internet.

    "care about the well-being" my ass, the way the app works destroys your attention span and is psychologically damaging, I'm seeing kids at school, left and right, who have become victims to it, it's honestly really sad to watch

    This is where parents need to put little bit more control in what their children are doing! Parents need to understand that these children's minds are not completely developed yet to make those types of decisions.

      Well unlike UA-cam and Facebook the bathroom destruction in public schools were caused by Tik Tok influencing and that is the only time this happened. UA-cam and Facebook don’t influence people to do that because they just say to not watch those videos if they are weird. These influencers are not using common sense to influence people
