Wow! Thank you for that great complement. These are fun to do and I’m definitely making more. The community is great and we are learning from each other. Thank you for watching!
Used this lens several years on film and finally on a D800E and I think your review is spot-on. During the time I owned it there were MTFs available showing it to be the sharpest Nikkor at f2 and in addition surpassing even the famous Noctilux (which wins on rendering) by quite a margin until both are stopped down to f5.6. The Bokeh, though, to me always looked as if someone has taken a long-exposure while some goblins went vigourously shaking the background, especially slightly stopped down: A bit... restless, maybe? At close distance it's fine and the shallow dof calms it considerably but at mid-distance it became a dealbreaker more than once. I now have the previous 55 mm AI-version on its way to me, hoping that it maybe just a tad more tame but still not lame in those situations. Keeping my fingers crossed! 😂
That’s great to hear! Nikon glass is special and the different versions of lenses and focal lengths have made it easy to find an optic for different projects. Let me know how it goes with the 55mm. Thanks for watching!
1:10 "...hold many advantages as the field of view of the human." I guess it all depends on who you believe. The scientific studies that I have read suggest the human field of view is equivalent to 42mm on a 35mm format camera.
Had some luck asking about this lens on a Nikon user group on Facebook yet some old timers were all like ugh you need the G 1.4 who needs 1.2 and all I said was “it’s available, it’s gorgeous, and so what if I use a teleconverter on it like a madman and use it in DX crop mode so what about aberration and such and such” I think they are just jelly that I’m picking one up soon.
That’s funny! Sure a 1.4 is fine until you try the 1.2 then your like Ooooooh. It’s a beautiful lens and I’m sure you’ll love it even if the old timers won’t admit it 😂 Thanks for watching!
Hello! Thank you for watching, the design is vintage since it was not updated for the run of this lens even though it was discontinued recently. At least that’s what I’m basing this off of. Thanks for the question, cheers!
This is one of the best vintage lens channels! Hope to see more videos in the future!

The editing on the beats brought a grin to my face! 😁Tres bien!
Great to hear! Maybe Nikon will grin too 😅😂
Fantastic review of yet another jewel.

Thank you for helping me finish it and to start a new one!
Hi, how is Voigtlander 58mm 1,4 in comparison to 50 mm 1,2. Any idea, please
Excellent work! Just pulled my copy of the lens out of mothballs and will be using it once again!
Great news! It’s a great lens. Thank you for watching!

Fantastic video, wow! Just what I was looking for. Also wonder how the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 S lens compares.
Thank you for checking it out! That would be a nice comparison for a future video. Cheers!
@@studiotrejo3047 Instant subscribe of course! Just followed your IG, I shoot architecture as well.
Great review! In your opinion, how does this lens compare to the Pentax Super Multi Coated Takumar 50mm 1.4?
Believe or not but I actually use this lens together with extension rings for super creamy macro shots a lot too! It’s an absolute hoot!
That’s a great use for this lens. I’m sure it’s a fun way to use it. Thank you for watching!

Is this lens really that vintage ?
it was only recently discontinued even if it was launched 40 years before

Great video
Thank you for watching! These are fun to make.
❤
Thank you for watching!
Lovely lens, but blooms like hell when shot wide open on digital. Sharpens up nicely at f/2, though.
Yes it does. On all three accounts. Definitely a keeper.
one of nikon lens which can compete with voigtlander nokton 58mm f1.4
It is a great lens. Thank you for watching!
To bad you couldnt have taken some shots with the Nikkor 50 1.2 AI-s on film.
That is too bad. Since it was originally meant for film. Maybe someone on UA-cam has done it?? Thanks for watching!
@@studiotrejo3047 Instead of bitching about it.. Iv decided to make some of my own video on Nikkor AI-s glass.
@@gregoryrogalsky6937 Good move, add to the community. Let me know and I’ll check it out. 👍🏼
Any chance you could do the nikon 180 2.8 afd? 😎
If you want to send me one I will review it. 😎
