      @@studiotrejo3047 the Sony also happens to be, you know, a grand :D That is helpful, I was just trying to get a sanity check on pricing because even sold item histories on sites like ebay are rather empty and there aren't a lot of those in the market. Caught one for 55€ now, not sold on the focal range yet but I am a huge fan of the 40mm focal length (love the Konica AR 40mm 1.8, might be interesting for your channel, absolute bargain, incredibly small, sharp, fast) with the only downside being that indoors it tends to be too tight. Thanks for your reply and the content, keep it up!

    Another on that has been in my inventory for many years in search of the holy grail in 35 mm F-mount lenses. I aggree it's sharp in the center even wide open and when in rush I took landscape-pictures with it at f2 which are pretty much usable if you accept the vignetting. But another strange behaviour is showing besides the expected vignetting: barrell-distortion which vanishes when stopping down to f4. I have never again seen such a strange behaviour. 😂

  • @kalenderquantentunnel9411

    Used this lens several years on film and finally on a D800E and I think your review is spot-on. During the time I owned it there were MTFs available showing it to be the sharpest Nikkor at f2 and in addition surpassing even the famous Noctilux (which wins on rendering) by quite a margin until both are stopped down to f5.6. The Bokeh, though, to me always looked as if someone has taken a long-exposure while some goblins went vigourously shaking the background, especially slightly stopped down: A bit... restless, maybe? At close distance it's fine and the shallow dof calms it considerably but at mid-distance it became a dealbreaker more than once. I now have the previous 55 mm AI-version on its way to me, hoping that it maybe just a tad more tame but still not lame in those situations. Keeping my fingers crossed! 😂

    I have one of these and a 18-200 F3.5-5.6. The later is more compact, lighter, and has vr as well as more wide angle range. Still, on special occasions, this is the one I use, and more likely to keep long term. Even if I do need a massage after carrying it around all day.

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047 4 місяці тому

      Very nice! I had the same two lenses with my Nikon D7000. The 18-200 was my walk around lens and the 80-200 for events. Two things I’d like to share: 1. As you already know, you have an apsc lens and a full frame lens. For the benefit of others that read this comment, the FF equivalent to your 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 would be a 27-300 f/5-8. So it is definitely more range than the 80-200. But where the 80-200 shines is its constant f2.8, it’s brighter and as you zoom the light doesn’t dim. It’s constant, perfect for events where lighting is tough or high ISOs will ruin a shot. 2. Right now an 80-200 on an apsc camera would crop the image and make the field of view of this lens effectively 120mm-300mm lens which is very telephoto. I could see imperfections in the image. Easier to shoot birds but harder to shoot portraits. Once I put my 80-200 on a FF camera I could see the intended image of this lens. The image it was meant to show. It blew my mind how I could see the bokeh in the viewfinder. The image popped even before I hit the shutter. Thank you for bringing those memories back to me.

    Hi there. I just picked up one of these lenses. I am still waiting on an adapter to come in the mail so I cant use the lens yet. one thing I noticed is that the aperature blades do not appear when I am adjusting the aperature ring. Not sure if this is because the aperature blades are stuck or if its the "automatic diaphragm control". maybe it'll work once I put it on the camera idk, but the lever on the mount doesn't make the aperature blades stop down either... can't find much online so if anybody has something that helps I'd appreciate it.

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047 4 місяці тому

      Hello thank you for reaching out. It sounds like the aperture blades may be stuck, usually because of oil on the blades. My first question would be what mount is your lens for?

      I also dont know if it will even work either way because it has the automatic diaphragm control mechanism and i dont know if it will work with just a N/F-sony E mount. Like i said ive been looking all over google and reddit and other forums but i havent found much info. I will likely end up disassembling the camera either way because there is some minor fungus and haze on the elements. But a little nervous to do so without any disassembling or reassembling instructions I can find.

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047 4 місяці тому

      @@friendlyalpaca5727 so it sounds like the blades are stuck. Your Sony e adapter would give it the proper distance for your lens to reach infinity focus but it wouldn’t control aperture since this is a fully manual lens. I also have the F mount version. I would start with the front element removal and see if you can reach the aperture chamber then use alcohol or lighter fluid which works faster and use a q tip to spread it. Make sure it’s at f/22 when you’re doing it. Keep at it and eventually the blades will pop out revealing the oil. Now you clean the blades/open the aperture and close the aperture. The blades will most likely get stuck again depending on the amount of oil. Repeat the above until it no longer stays stuck. Remove the rear elements and do the same on the other side of the blades. This will save you from completely disassembling the lens. I didn’t find a repair manual but this may help. learncamerarepair.com/product.php?product=508

      @@studiotrejo3047 ok thank you! To confirm since you have the same lens. Are the aperature blades supposed to move when you adjust the aperature ring or does it stay wide open as described by the “automatic diaphragm control”? If it does stay wide open is there a way to trigger it with just a standard adapter or do i need a specialty adapter? Sorry if you already answered this. Still just a little confused. Thank you though. The parts manual will help a lot!

      I also have the second version of this lens. It sounds like one of the elements are backwards. Because it is weird that it’s working that way. It is a great lens.

    what do you think about vivitar 28-105 f3.5 ?

      Hello! Thank you for watching! If you are referring to the Vivitar S1 28-105 f2.8-3.8 which I do own, I think it’s great! Sharp, close focus and versatile. I’ve used it on travel and just for fun. There are 3 versions of this lens. The one I have has the 67 diameter front, the rubber Series 1 embossed on the focus. Hope this helps.

    This video started my desire for this lens, I got to have it some day! But I think I'm going to buy a Z camera, and I don't know how is going to work on that camera! (Probably a Z5)

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047 7 місяців тому

      Hello! Thanks for watching! It is a beautiful lens. To use it on a Z camera you can use the FTZ adapter but with no auto focus just aperture control. The Megadap or a FotodioX Pronto would give you auto focus but aperture control is manual. I hope this helps!

  • @δημητρησγκαιτατζησ-ξ8δ

    Thanks a lot, I have the z5 and that lens... What adapters of megadap and Kf make the Af work on Z5????

    My push/pull model will be arriving today from Japan. Bought it through an online app. This will be my first telephoto. I was wondering if in terms of optical quality does the push/pull have less than the VR and VRII version?

      Hello! Thank you for watching! Unfortunately I don’t have extensive tests with the push pull version of this lens so I couldn’t comment on it. From what I have read it does have good optical qualities.

    Had some luck asking about this lens on a Nikon user group on Facebook yet some old timers were all like ugh you need the G 1.4 who needs 1.2 and all I said was “it’s available, it’s gorgeous, and so what if I use a teleconverter on it like a madman and use it in DX crop mode so what about aberration and such and such” I think they are just jelly that I’m picking one up soon.

      That’s funny! Sure a 1.4 is fine until you try the 1.2 then your like Ooooooh. It’s a beautiful lens and I’m sure you’ll love it even if the old timers won’t admit it 😂 Thanks for watching!

    Its great for the price hehe. I use it on digital and analoge. It has some barrel-distortion in the bokeh area tho. And build like a tank 😅

      Sure is! It rendered beautifully in stills and video. Amazing for what it could do and what it still does. As long as the camera can drive the AF motor you’re good. Thanks for watching!

    I own this lens for a few years now but did'nt use it very often as it is very heavy and for me not usable wide open. At 2.8 its softer than a french softcore porn movie from the seventies. Maybe its just my specimen? Suprisingly enough I started using it more often since I accepted the flaws and use it only at f4 and above. Thats when this lens performs really really well. Anyway, nice review! Thank you!

    Hi Alex , I wanna buy this lens used from online store but it says:- The autofocus is intermittent in functionality but manual focus works fine. Can you please advise if i can buy this lens for $ 100 and can the focussing issue be fixed easily.

    • @studiotrejo3047
      @studiotrejo3047 9 місяців тому

      Hello! Thank you for reaching out. $100 is a good price but the fact that it focuses sometimes is a red flag because I don’t know how much it costs to repair it. If you are only going to use it for video then manual focus is fine. So it depends what you want to use it for.
