Hi mate, thanks for the kind comment! I’m glad you found the video helpful and I hope it helps you get out there and catch a few Jacks this summer 😁👌tight lines!
Hahaha yeah mate that’s definitely fair enough 😂 I sorted out a better combo too, but it was just to show beginners or people that are struggling for money that you don’t need expensive gear if that’s all they can afford. It’s obviously not ideal, but yeah. That combo definitely landed plenty of Jacks, Spanish mackerel, and snapper for me now that I think about it 😂 Tight lines bro 👌🎣
@@willkitching true. An expensive combination doesn’t turn a bad fisherman into a good one. But if you are good, it certainly makes you better. And Jacks are pretty ruthless. They punish any mistake. My main plastics outfit is only 8-14 pound but it’s high quality, casts like a dream and smashes Jacks.
Will Kitching cheers it’s cam bill young fella changed my name to make me more interesting apparently and I don’t know how to change it back hahahahaha
Will Kitching haha my name is cam but apparently it’s to boring for my you tube according to young fella hopefully change it back when I get back home hahaha
Exactly the video I was after! Also decided I want to catch a Jack and never have! All the other videos on MJs are lure based. Keep seeing all the post of the SCF page, I decided I have to give this a try! Old mate I see at the Mooloolah boat ramp reckons thats what would have been biting me off at the bridge further up, not Tailor!
That’s awesome Conway, I’m glad you found it helpful! 😁 Live bait is a great way to target them mate, I’ve caught winter whiting, herring, and mullet in the Mooloolaba canals in my cast net but if worst comes to worst you can just use strip baits too. They definitely get them around those bridges up there, and around any big/rough structure really! There have been a lot around on the Sunshine Coast lately 👍
Hi mate thanks for the comment!! 😁 Some popular lures for mangrove jacks are paddle tail soft plastics in 3-5 inch sizes, such as Zman. In terms of hardbody lures, Jackall ‘Squirrels’ are very good, however if you want something more affordable you can look for lures from other brands that look similar, for example brands like Berkley, Duo, Zerek, etc. Other popular hardbodies are the Duo 100dr, and the Lucky Craft ‘pointer’ 100xd. You can also use surface lures, like MMD ‘splash prawns’, or Lucky Craft ‘G-splash’ poppers. I hope this helps mate, Google these lures and have a look or keep an eye out for them in your local tackle shops 👍🎣 hopefully you can nail some Jacks! Thanks for the comment
Thanks mate!! Yeah I got lucky to land some big Jacks last Summer, hopefully I can repeat it again this year! Definitely going to try some new snags and spots too! Cheers mate 🙌🎣
Hi Harry, when using Summer Whiting as bait, make sure that they are legal size (23cm in QLD). It would be easier to catch some Winter Whiting as they are the perfect size to use, and easy to catch. Just fish with yabbies in the deeper channels around sand banks, around 2-5 meters deep usually works well. For mullet, if you have a cast net, any drop offs along the edges of creeks, canals, or the Broadwater at the Gold Coast should work. You can also use bread and breadcrumbs as berley, or buy a mullet trap. Hope this helps mate.
Another great video, Will. Always love your videos, mate. This is one I was particularly glad to watch, because I wouldn't mind having a go at MJ's this summer. I've "bookmarked" this one for ready reference so I can pull it up any time i want to refresh my memory. Hope you and Dad and all the family are all doing well. Cheers mate.
G'day Steiny! Thanks for the kind words mate, I am glad somebody liked them haha 😅 I'm glad this video will hopefully help you, I can't wait to hear about your Mangrove Jack sessions this Summer. It's pretty relaxing on a night with no wind, just soaking some livies waiting for a big bite. I'm sure you'll enjoy a cold beverage at the same time! The family are doing well, I hope you and your family are going well too Steiny. Tight lines mate, thanks for the comment 👍😁

Nice Will the mustad hooks are good 👌🏻
Yes mate super sharp and strong! Do you use them offshore too? 👌
The mustad hooks are great I use them offshore aswell for snapper etc changed over from gamakatsu hooks
@@jamesr514 Yep me too mate, they're awesome and so strong! 👍
Nothing wrong with mustad hooks at all. I've been catching jacks on the mustad wide gape hooks for decades.
