    I was born and raised in Berkeley and it's insane to me how much prices have gone up. My mom and I lived in a two bedroom apartment on Jefferson St and paid only $700 a month.

      @chenzenzo it really is insane. And the problem will only get worse if cities don't do more to create more affordable housing supply. And yes, lack of housing supply is just one factor contributing to rising rental prices. Though this non-profit doesn't show tertiary city data, it displays the number of housing units needed to built annually to keep up with population growth in major metros: weareapartments.org/data/San_Francisco

      @@livinginthebayareait's Christmas 2023. Do you still live there?
      Berkeley is my hometown, but I honestly amazed at the lack of understanding between the city and the actual residents.
      When I was growing up, $1.2M was astronomical and out of the question unless you were ultra rich. Do you still live in Berkeley?
      I was born on Telegraph and raised there but later grew up on Hopkins/Cedar Rose (which was a very tough neighborhood and later Jefferson Ave, which is in the very center of Berkeley.
      Hope you're still doing great. Merry Christmas!

    Love the videos so far! Can you do a video on the specific vibe or aesthetic of the individual neighborhoods in Alameda County?

      HI @Janeen, don't know what happened to my last comments, but are there any neighborhoods in Alameda County you want specifically covered? I'm working on a "Top 5 Neighborhoods in Oakland" video at the moment. I'm going to work on Alameda (city) and neighborhoods in Albany next.

    Hi. This video really nice & helpful! . We're from Indonesia about to moving to UC Berkeley. We have some difficultness to find home or apt for 3adults & 2 toddlers. Do u think UC Village is the best choice for us? Considering the price and safety. Will be happy if u can send us link to find another option to stay about 10months hopefully near the campus. Thanks anyway! 😁🙏

      Hi Mrs. Fujita, sorry for the late reply! UC Village is actually a good choice - I see many families with children there. Outside of apartments.com and Craigslist of course, there are a few resources for rental listings (Andrea Rentals) andrearentals.com/listings/city/berkeley-albany/ and MEBA Leasing.

    How about public transport? Is it available and how far it goes?

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Stefan, there are three BARTs in Berkeley: Ashby BART, North Berkeley BART, and Downtown Berkeley BART. They are all along the Red (Richmond) line. Major transfer stations are MacArthur BART and the downtown Oakland BARTs. There are also quite a few transbay buslines within Berkeley if you are commuting to the city.

    Hey kid, do you think it's different anywhere in America, or the world for that matter? Prices will keep going up forever... everyone wanting more than they need. My mom told me a story about getting an orange in her Christmas stocking one year and being thrilled with it. When you were a kid living with your parents there were people living around you that were thinking the exact same thing you are. Now that you're an adult and having to pay your own bills, is quite the eye-opener isn't it? Cable TV, internet, unlimited cell phone, entertainment, meals out, a car, yearly vacations, new clothes, how much do you spend on cosmetics each month? If all these things are *necessities* to you maybe you should be looking at the cost of living in Alabama or Mississippi because it's only going to get worse.

      Yeaaaah, prices have gone up, especially since SIP.....folks renting in SF were looking for more space in the East Bay.

      Somehow missed this one @satyanarayana raju, but you CAN find rooms for rent in larger homes for under $850.

    Can I get something on $1,600 rent

    • @livinginthebayarea
      @livinginthebayarea  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, there are SOME studio apartments and 1 bedroom apartments in the hills and near UCB that charge roughly $1500 - $1600 per month.There are very few listings on the MLS (what realtors use for the "for sale" properties) so CL is your best bet.

      @Chouaib Arroum, you can more easily find rooms for rent under $850 and sometimes lower, depending on the type of housing. There are many, many, larger craftsman and victorian homes near campus with rooms for rent.

      @@chouaibarroum3359 you are right that results right now aren't as great as they have been on CL because of timing: sfbay.craigslist.org/search/eby/roo?query=berkeley&max_price=850&availabilityMode=0 . You might have to go a little outside of Berkeley, but there are a few in this link. There are MANY more results on Facebook marketplace and facebook groups housing in the East Bay: facebook.com/marketplace/category/propertyrentals?exact=false&latitude=37.8536&longitude=-122.2684&radius=5
