Tom's basses are always amazing, constantly find myself drooling over the 2 he made for Paul Turner especially his full on white bass. Absolutely beautiful!
Surprisingly good comparison with 2 same type instruments and how different the sound can be. quite interesting. And I'm happy to see finnish artisanship in practice.
Those metal blocks play the role as "acoustic absorbers" inside the electronic cavity that depend on the absorption coefficient at different frequency.
Pavel E. To each his own, I like the look of the natural bass but when he started playing the white bass my ears perked up and I instantly noticed that I was listening more intently. A “Jazz Bass” tone like Geddy in my humble opinion. I would never buy a white bass but, that’s just my personal preference. Cheers!
If I win the blue Fender, I'm going to go to every YT video where Scott is playing it, and leave a gloating comment about it being MINE now. Mwahahahaha!! [/evil laugh]
Sweet axe! Read the description quickly and for a second I was expecting to see Steinbeck basses! If you haven't done a video on weird, odd and wacky basses you should!
Awesome basses Scott, I personally prefer the Natural wood color Bass more than the White one, the tone just digs in a little more to me, and adds more low end with nice growl , there both great though , enjoy!
Hey Scott, thanks for bringing attention to smaller bass builders! I couldn’t tell if there was any sort of shielding under the electronics... I’ve heard mixed reviews, but how do you feel about shielding routed out cavities in the body? I’ve got a buddy that copper tapes every guitar/bass he owns, because he believes it helps with overall tone/feedback issues. Anyways, I’ve got my fingers crossed during this giveaway for lifetime SBL membership so I can continue to learn from the best.... but I’d take a Sire jazz bass too lol! Keep up the great work!
Great idea about the bass show, The bases you have been giving away are the best maybe a Rickenbacker something like that too. Keep up the good work I like your UA-cam videos. 🎶 🎙 🎩. Robert
Beautiful basses sir. I was the one that asked you on IG about the dead spot on the fender and i see that you kinda Touched on the head mass n sound issue. I was wondering if maybe you make a little more indepth video about this issue. Just a FYI i ordered the fender "fat finger" and it is working wonderfully. While i waited for it to arrive a used a spring loaded capo and it worked wonders.
@@nancydoane7864 Thanks. I did not know he wore them for medical reasons until I watched some older videos. I feel kinda bad now , I thought it might help with sliding and playing with less hurting your fingers.
@@kevinlynch2248 Yeah, they're defo at the top end of bass prices - I've seen them going for anything between 6000 to 10,000 Euro's... so around the same price bracket as Fodera's.
so with one of the settings being a quieter, less aggressive sound, is the humbucker a tapped pickup for the entire humbucker with the ability to split into either single coil? (before i get "tapped and split are the same!" they aren't tapped is essentially stopping the winding on the pickup part way through to provide an option with less windings, splitting is actually being able to turn a humbucker into a single coil...ish.
Won an Ibanez Mezzo in a bass giveaway earlier. It sounds great, by comparison looks like the same scale, rivals the sound I'm hearing here, and Lord knows it didn't cost $5-7.5 grand! To each his own I guess.😕
Very exciting to get the new Basses! They are very very Cool looking!! Soooooo... ... Scott... you need to get a kit and build a Bass for the fun of it. Learn some ways to change aspects and make it your own creation. Maybe make it in “The Shed” I don’t know?! 🤔 I’ve built a few Guitars from bits a pieces I’ve picked on line... and they have come out great! Your build would be something really Cool to talk about here... aaaaaand... you could build two and give away one to promote that which you promote. Bam! Win Win!! Who wouldn’t want a Bass you made?! Who, I ask you?! 🤷🏻♂️✨💫🎸🎸‼️
My main bass is VERY light and was just a bit neck heavy -- I stuck a big wad of plumbing epoxy to the back of the electronics cavity cover to counterbalance it. Not sure about any tonal benefits, but it will definitely affect the balance.
Hello Scott, just a tiny l correction, I'd say Birdseye maple on the fingerboard, as far as I can see with my old grey eyes :) These basses are awesome, I tried one in the local shop called Bass Buddha :) www.tomstenback.com
Nice Basses there Scott, REALLY like the white one in particular!! 😉 How much does one of them set you back then? (Not that I could afford one anyway). Just curious. 😀
Wow, so I clicked this video and found out about the giveaway. I literally submitted my application 13 seconds before the registration ended. Coincidence? I think not
All very well but a lot of the generated sound is interpreted in your head. So if you think something will sound different then it will. There have been many blind studies done and even experts fail to spot differences if they are not able to see the instrument. You generally purchase a new bass because you want another!
U can definetly hear the difference with the weight imo. When I heard it in he first bass it sounded a lil warmer. A lil smoother imo. Idk how to explain it. Its lil the difference in a wood bodied acoustic guitar and a steel body just not as drastic. Both of these r amazing. U dont have to lie, we know what u did for those basses 😉 Hahaha
a Recluthier, if you will.
Nice. 👍😊🍺

Love to see all that thought and development as well as craftsmanship going into our beloved instrument.
That flamey natural finish one is DOPE... I love everything about it. I want one now.
0:34 "I've got these two new basses..." AND I'M GIVING THEM AWAY "... and I really wanted to share with you".
oh...
What a gorgeous shape, loved it
Sounds like Scott Devine on any bass... Which is great
The white one with the rosewood board seems right up my alley.
Look gorgeous, dude! Beautiful instruments, well done!!!
Definitly neat with the weights, I think the heavier weight gave it a more punchy music man tone. Lovin it!
Those metal blocks play the role as "acoustic absorbers" inside the electronic cavity that depend on the absorption coefficient at different frequency.
Super jealous! Stenback is a bass jedi. Only thing is I wish the audio of the basses wasn't clipping :(
Great review on the stenback basses. Love the 5 string he did for Alex Al...
Hi Scott,
FYI: it's Paul Sips who owns the store Bass matters.
Cheers!
Hee Scott. Nice vid!! 👍 Just a small correction. It’s Paul Sips of Bassmatters. Keep shooting the nice videos.
Lovely basses, they have a really gritty tone that totally fits your playing style.
The white one just doesn’t sound so good, the natural one is just piece of magic ❤️
Pavel E. To each his own, I like the look of the natural bass but when he started playing the white bass my ears perked up and I instantly noticed that I was listening more intently. So help me, if I win that blue custom shop Fender, I will astral project through 5 dimensions and come back as some saintly bass demigod
I love this comment on a degree I thought was not possible
If I win the blue Fender, I'm going to go to every YT video where Scott is playing it, and leave a gloating comment about it being MINE now. Mwahahahaha!! [/evil laugh]
more power
i keep on learning because of you
thanks
Great review. Thank you
anything in your hands looks good !
That white one has a bit more snap and almost clarity, where the other one is ... silky? It also had a bit of a growl compared to the white. Crazy!
Sweet axe! Read the description quickly and for a second I was expecting to see Steinbeck basses! If you haven't done a video on weird, odd and wacky basses you should!
Imagine how much better James Jamerson would have been with weights in his basses.
Holy shit, idk if this was frequently said before but, Scott strangely resembles James McAvoy.
very elegant and this pickup sound lovely. A second one of this badboy on bridge position will not be a bad idea IMHO
His tombstone will say, Scott Devine A Good Dude
Love how informative the videos are while still being laid back and funny
Awesome basses Scott, I personally prefer the Natural wood color Bass more than the White one, the tone just digs in a little more to me, and adds more low end with nice growl , there both great though , enjoy!
Those basses are alright but that Panerai watch outshines everything else
My bass instructor has a Stenback bass and its smooth as butter
You cracked me up with that opening....lmao

Nice basses! My wild guess is the pu on the white one is the big difference. The windings and maybe even the pu height adjustment. Cool.
beautiful sound nice explanation
oh my god these are beautiful
I could only dream to have one of these basses
Absolutely fantastic basses!
So ... Tom of Finland then.
Beautiful basses.
awesome and unique basses!
wow! Now I've got G.A.S. for that flamed alder bass!!
Facebook, Instagram, Website and lots of vids about him here and vimeo. And yes amazing holy grail basses!
Nice. Thanks again
Am I the only one who was secretly hoping Scott was giving these away? 😂😂
Give it a couple of weeks...
Can't wait!!!!
Hey! When are you going to test play a Mattisson? They're quite awesome. You should have one :)!

2 months later:
I'll be giving these 2 basses away!!
5 months, actually
Good vid as always scott
I'll be honest i didn't like that wood coloured one but that white one sounds so nice!

I got mine from Amazon. Make sure you measure your finger as directed they need to be snug!

Hey Scott, what’s the price of those two Bases??? 🙂 didn’t hear you mentioning the price 🙃
Daman Kharkamni From what Ive seen, Tom’s basses run between $5500.00 and $7500.00.

the weight thing is like the little weights in those pro gamer mouses, right?
But do they go up to Eleven?
Maybe the weights change the sound waves traveling through the body of the Bass or something
I think it just helps balance the bass better
Can you do another video on how much basses u own please
I want to test those double j, is there some cheaper way to buy one like that?
Sweet duo
They sound very fluid and moderately farty, which is awesome!
When you say alder body I think youre saying older body!
this will be a good bass for small size bass players like me
Dream bass!!
This makes sense...
How much did they cost tho?
I'll be honest, I'm not sold on those weights.... Nice looking bass though :)

Details matters in performance
Are these the real reason you're giving away your custom shop? My Mrs tries to make me do the same.
Rosewood's freatboard sounds better imo. Better defined and solid mids.
How are they strung, dude?
Same strings??
Nice Basses there Scott, REALLY like the white one in particular!! 😉
How much does one of them set you back then? (Not that I could afford one anyway). Just curious. 😀
You overloaded the master of your editing software or mic?
I know... too much groove, lol :P
This is why you are giving those other ones away cheeky bugger
I'm guessing that's how the purchase got past the missus. At least, that's how it would go in my house. :)
I swear there’s an enveloppe filter on the maple one
Holy shit I didnt know Tom was Finnish. I've seen his basses before and they look amazing
They have a Cort and Sadowsky vibe to them, but only one HB pickup?
It's more like two single coil pickups in one, but I'm sure you could order one with 5 pickups if you wanted to
5 String?
Wow, so I clicked this video and found out about the giveaway. I literally submitted my application 13 seconds before the registration ended. Coincidence? I think not
They look sick
Scott is slowly losing his sanity

Still no bonus codes sent to my email to enter the comp on SBL.
You can clearly hear the difference between both basses.
Though twas a fodera. Wonderful bass!
Im in love
Tom makes the best sounding, sexiest basses in the world!!
Anyone notice the "Only Fools & Horses" reference? For UK viewers of a certain age.

Hey Scott! Lemme win your Moollon!!!
