Super find on that White Christmas box! Way cool LPs too.
I love digging at record shows like that. I brought a small backpack to carry everything at the show and needed it. I picked up so many great comedy records for cheap. Now if only there were more shows near me...

The further along you get in collecting, the more you can go to these shows and say, got that, have this, don’t need the other, nice but too expensive. I’m grateful I got what I got when I did, including CDs. Don’t need as much.

I’ve attended a couple shows and one thing that surprised me is the lack of organization for most dealers and that they overpack the boxes so it’s hard to flip through the albums.
I find about half the dealers don’t have the albums in alpha order.
I hate that when I’m looking for specific records but I’ve definitely bought things that I wasn’t looking for simply because I stumbled upon it.
As you discovered prices are all over the place. I’ve found it wise to resist buying if the price is too much and if the vinyl is not in VG+ as there usually is another one somewhere else in the room. Most dealers offer a discount if you ask.
Like you I’m vaccinated but I too wear a mask in crowds. It’s not worth the risk.

Glad you went to your first Record Fair,- my favourite one is the Bristol Record Fair on several floors. Great fun and you see all sorts. Me and my mate tend to start in the cheap stands ( £1 or £2 ) as you can take a punt on something interesting without taking a hit. My suggestion is to take a record bag. After a while, you get to recognise certain dealers, and most of them are happy to chat. Do hope you get to another one soon.

Man, when I did my first and only Denver-area record show, it was over 20 years ago. I bought two records that day, which I still have.
It was interesting to see how much things have changed since then. I was expecting to say "very little" but really , back then it was mostly high-interest LPs and not much else. Seeing lots more variety here a quarter century later on. Thanks for the overview.

I am so impressed with your selection! Any collector who revels over purchases of Decca's Bing Crosby White Christmas featuring Peggy Lee plus Patsy Cline and Peggy Lee albums is a friend of mine! I understand about the overwhelming feeling at those record shows, I go in excited and five minutes later, I've forgotten my name let alone what it is I'm looking for. Kudos to you for protecting your family by wearing a mask. Great video.

I am 42 years old right now... Since kindergarden I would always sing and sing all the time... And my friends when we finished high school bought me the coolest gift ever... A jukebox and it was given to me at our school prom... They had bought this for me cause they told me that whenever they where feeling down my singing would bring their spirit's up.... Anyways... Why do I sing so much ? My dad would always put music around the house. And also my uncles on my mother's side played guitar and where absolute music lovers and had an incredible vinyl collection... Both of them commited suicide in there 20's a couple of years a part from untreated depression... So my mother got their guitars and vinyl's and then gave them to me... I have over a 1000 vinyls 33's and 45's... Once in a while I'll undust some and have a listen... I even have unopened new vinyl's which where never opened. I do not dare open them either. HAHA that was my story :)

Great video! Coincidentally I had almost exactly the same experience a week ago. I went to my first record show (not ever, but in 5+ years) here in Toronto and my feelings were the same as yours. First, "Omg, there is so much stuff here!" and be overwhelmed. And then, "Omg, it is so busy I can't get to any of the boxes!" And finally, "Omg, I don't think I'm ready for these crowds yet." Like you, I am vaxed/boosted but it was just too crowded for my comfort level, even though 75% of us were still opting to wear masks. One interesting thing to note: this record show had a $5 entry fee (Canadian money is less valuable, though lol!), but they offered early entry (maybe an hour earlier?) for $25. I am kind of thinking it might be worth it, just for a more relaxed experience (and actually get to some of the boxes I never got near!).

Great to see such a huge crowd, although I'd be uncomfortable there, too. You got some great prices -- it pays to shop around. I used to go to record shows all the time back in the '70s and '80s, but haven't been to one since getting back into vinyl a couple years ago. They're running regularly in my area, so I'll probably start going again.

I’d go to a record show later than earlier, particularly an hour or so before they close. Why? While it’s true that at least some of the choice records would be taken, it’s also true that towards the end of the day, dealers are more willing to negotiate a lower price so they don’t have to take as many records back to their shop. I’ve saved several dollars this way. As long as you’re not offering $5 for an album they’re selling for $50. As I said, the trade off is that there may not be as many records left to choose from. But if you’re not picky about what you want-I.e., come in absolutely determined to find THE record, no matter what-you’ll still find some that if they weren’t already bargains, the seller more than likely will work with you. Obviously this is NOT about records that were already being sold for $4!!!

Shortly after this video was made, I was at ProgPower USA in Atlanta, Georgia, which is a power and progressive heavy metal festival. There is a vendor room where attendees can buy all kinds of CDs, records, t-shirts and most other types of music/band related merch. That is the closest I've been to what would be considered a "record show". Since that is the primary genre of music that I listen to, I find all kinds of awesome albums there. Since I have to fly there, it is difficult to take vinyl LPs back in my luggage and not want to risk damaging them, thus I typically end up buying mostly CDs with the occasional vinyl record if I find something really cool. I will admit that I am not a fan of Patsy Cline, but looks like you scored some nice pieces there. I will admit that I am jealous of that White Christmas record set you scored there. Especially for only $2. That Metallica "Ride The Lightening" album that I spied in your video looked pretty cool and I probably would've grabbed that. I also would've loved to look through that bin of "Rock Musicals" that I saw there in the video. I may have to check if there are any good record shows/fairs in this area (there ought to be, considering this is the Washington, DC area 😲).

Great video as usual. We used to have big record fairs here in Brighton, England, at the Brighton Centre, which looks a bit like the centre you're at. They finished long before Covid kicked in though. We still have a small record fair once a month which is happening in two weekends time, and we have loads of 2nd hand record shops here. For a vinyl junkie like me it's heaven. I prefer original recordings if I can get them rather than modern remasters, so fairs and 2nd hand record shops are where I go.

I'm glad record stores still don't charge admission but I know the fee goes to renting the room at these events. You really need to bring singles and fives and tens so they don't need to look for change. Good idea being safe. Covid is picking up a bit here in NY,they say. The Patsy Clines were nice to find as well as Whit Christmas, but the Peggy Lee is on an unknown label so are they the real hits or some radio soundtracks? At 7:09 it looked like a mono Sgt. Pepper album.

@@Recordology I live in New Zealand, and some decades ago now a large record importer in Auckland hired what is called the World Trade Centre building in Wellington - a HUGE room - for a Friday evening and decked it out with CDs much like the show you visited. There was one main difference: all the discs were brand new. There were hundreds of people there and I remember buying quite a few discs. Sadly the company never put on another similar show - maybe the cost of hiring the room was just too much. I thought it was a huge success.

Never been to a "record show", but that is because most of them are too far away. However there are two booth style shops (one in a antique mall the over in a higher end boutique) that sell records (one sells new & old the other is old only) both of them are far more reasonably priced ($1~$8 depends on condition/rarity) except if their First Prints of acts like The Beatles & Pick Floyd (those are expensive as heck.) The records that caught my eye was the two David Bowie albums (though I would like to get the Scary Monster album more than Station To Station.) I think that the two shop owners attend these shows for new stuff to sell. The best deal I got at the shop was The Beach Boys Endless Summer (first print) in good condition (gate fold is a tad worn is the only issue) for $5.

I’ve really gotten into collecting Jamaican dancehall reggae 45s lately. They must have vocals on both sides, though, as I kind of feel ripped off when I get one with a song and its version (instrumental) on the other side. The Star Wars riddim is an example of not having vocals on both sides. My favorites are the ones with two songs by the same artist on the same riddim! Peace.
