Virgil's 530hp Whipple Supercharged 2017 Challenger R/T I Dyno and First Drive

- Virgil craved more power out of his 2017 Dodge Challenger R/T. He wanted something very streetable and would have power on tap when needed. So we set him up with a Whipple Supercharger kit, Deatschwerks 60# Fuel Injectors, Texas Speed Longtube Headers, and a Mcleod Twin Disc Clutch. At the end of the day we made 530hp and 538tq @ 10psi of peak boost on 93 Octane fuel using the Diablosport Trinity T2.

Forged internals ?

Thinking bout putting a Whipple on my rt how did it do?
I'm sold. BB torque in a SB package. I've had a McCleod Street Twin in front of a Tremec TKO 5-spd before. Was too much weight and the gear changes, at the track, were "chunky". Normal street driving? No problem.
We had not had any issue with the clutch or gear change under aggressive driving situations. It was actually a very pleasant clutch to drive both street and aggressively. Also, if you check out a more recent video we did with this car we picked up another 18hp and 9tq.

Is Virgil's 6-spd transmission plagued by the "2nd gear nibble" BS? (Shame on Tremec for not fixing that issue). Mine has always had it.

would i have to forge internals if i did a 392 cam w a 3.0 whipple ? have a 17 R/T as well. really only looking for around 600whp. very interested, thanks!!!
After talking with many tunners it’s best to just go supercharger. Cam has too much that can go wrong if you do supercharger with cam. Especially with out a built trans

Do you still have the car? How is it holding up to the boost overtime? I am hoping to Whipple my 5.7 with my bonus this year. I have a 2019 R/T. Also was the stock clutch slipping on the 530whp?
This is a customer car. The car is still running and running very well. This car has a McLeod Twin Disc in it, not the stock clutch.

What about whipple vs magnuson?
The both have their merits... but the base Whipple kit will outperform the base Magnuson kit because the Whipple is a 2.9L unit and the Magnuson is a 2.3L unit.
Is there a big risk of hurting the engine from doing this?
There is always a risk when increasing power output of factory components, but with proper tuning those risks are reduced

The is no such thing as a 100% safe a reliable build for any car... including ones straight off the assembly line at the factory.
Do you need a manifold to install the whipple
The whipple is the manifold. It replaces your stock intake manifold.
10 psi is safe without forging ?
Yes it is.
Would you say the 10 psi is safe on stock bottom end ?
I really depends. The rods take it fine, the pistons is a crap shoot on what the top compression ring is gapped at. Dodge has a very wide tolerance on their top compression ring, 0.009 - 0.028. If it is gapped closer to the tighter side they don't like 10psi... but you never know what they are unless you open the motor.

I know this may sound stupid brother, but why isn’t it making more horse power ? I’m asking because I want to do this to mine but I’m trying to be close or over 1000hp
Because it is a stock engine. The factory 5.7 is good to around 500-550 whp reliably, and this is only 10psi of boost with no cam. To make 1000 you would need a built block, ported heads, big cam, bigger blower, and a lot more boost pressure.

Dope vid. Was there a 0-60 difference.? Typically challenger rt 0-60 is about 3.4.. Did the time drop and if so by how much.?
Thank you. We don't do 0-60 testing after tuning. We leave that up to the customer if they so choose to want to do that.

10 psi is considered high for stock engine right? Not good for longevity right?
It depends on how much air the power adder moves and how much torque the entire combination produces. 10psi on this setup does put us near the limit of what the stock engine can handle. With proper tuning it can last and be very happy.

@@mrhellcat9139 absolutely, but I would do rods and pistons not just pistons.
What was about the cost on this project?
At the time we did it, something like this would cats between $14k-$16k. With prices on parts now you'd be looking closer to $20k to do the same thing

What size long tube headers do you have on this 1 7/8”?
These are 2" as Texas Speed does not make a 1 7/8" at the moment.

@@riology2234 no. 2 inch for forced induction is best. If it were N/A the smaller size primaries would work best. A few weeks later we were able to to make almost 550 with some more fuel thanks to a boost-a-pump. Which is nearly a 200hp gain on just 10psi of boost. We would lose 20-30hp at least with a smaller primary.
