  • Full install how to guide for the Deuce double hoop roll bar from Hard Dog. I'm doing this on a 1994 NA Miata which will be exatly the same for any 1990 - 1997 and mostly the same through 2005. Helpful links below!
    I'll also install the optional Hard Dog SFI padding and leather covers. (The padding install was cut for time but I show them -- my review is they are worth it. The SFI padding is a must with any roll bar or cage install and these are form fitted to match the hoops. The covers are leather and are nice and pliable and smell awesome too. They will also protect the pads from sun damage.)
    Bonus Feature: I'm installing with a Robbins glass window soft top -- will it fit???
    Right angle drill attachment I used: amzn.to/2x7xYK3
    Spot weld cutter bits: amzn.to/2FvMO1z
    One handed reciprocating saw: amzn.to/2X4MDVP
    (This is probably overkill but I love this saw, use it all the time both in the garage, home, and yard with different blades as needed.)

    Thanks so much for the detailed video, it's been tricky finding details on the Deuce bar install. Just ordered mine from Bethania with the same padding for my 03 NB2!

      Yeah, even if you talk to them directly about things like soft/hard top fitment, they won't give a 100% definite answer...like with the glass on a robbins top and a deuce with the center braces. They'll say it will most likely fit, lol. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

    Appreciate you taking the time to make this. My Deuce arrives today and this video really helped give me a heads up of what is to come. Which size bit is used for drilling the holes for the mounting plate bolts?

      Yeah totally. With a foamectomy, the stock seats get you pretty low but I've always had this slight worry about getting smacked if I get rear ended. I've just recently put in new seats that are kind of a retro bucket racing style that have an adjustable headrest that provides more protection. Check out the video for that as well

    Does the deuce provide actual protection too? And if you know why is there a $600 option and a $200 option of the deuce on moss Miata? They have the same screenshot.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the deuce offers good protection, I think a couple of the crash pics on hard dog's website are deuces (send them pics and they will replace your bar). The only option I know of is for the pads and covers. I think if you get the real leather it's close to 200. Overpriced a bit, but it's pretty sweet looking. The pads are formed to the shape of the hoops which is nice.

    Thanks for the video. Which pads/covers are those? Leather ones like Moss sells?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  6 років тому +1

      These are the ones from hard dog themselves. It's the leather version (vinyl is also available) plus the molded padding. They are a little expensive but worth it I think.

    Hiya. Is the side panel cut or trimmed for this?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 роки тому

      There are two panels that need trimming. One is the parcel shelf which is the fully removable panel behind the seats. Second is a bit of the rear panel on either side where the rear braces go. There is a small lip attached to the side seatbelt tower that needs to be trimmed back but not the side panel itself.

      @@OGPedXing hiya. That's awesome. Saw that in your video. But I was asking about the plastic side panel. That the seat belt goes into.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 роки тому

      @@merlyn2121 oh yeah, the plastic needs to be trimmed slightly to be able to slide it back in. There's a little lip that sticks out and it needs to be trimmed flush.

      I'm sure it will work no problem. The little rotary/dremel tool makes it pretty easy but a razor utility knife would also work or even some metal snips.

    Thanks so much for posting this! It will be a huge help. Picking up a '94 today, project for my son and I to play with. He wants to go with the Deuce and I am cool with that. We also need to get a new top and I am looking at stayfast canvas with a glass window. Like you, have done a lot of research about fitment and no "definite" answers. I want to make sure they are compatible if I am dropping $1300 on the bar and roof, lol. Do you know what brand roof you have? Zippered or non zippered glass? Thanks in advance!

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому +2

      I have the Robbins top in vinyl with a non zippered glass window. The bar is the center braced version and the window rubs ever so slightly on the way up. Solved by supporting the glass slightly as you pull the roof up. On the way down, no issues. The side braced deuce would be fine but I liked the look of the center braced more. Hard Dog told me if the dimensions of the glass is less than or equal to the stock NB glass then it should fit, zippered or not. I think the numbers are on their site. Definitely install the top first then the bar, way easier that way!

      @@OGPedXing Thanks so much for the quick reply! I am (hopefully) picking the car up today. I have been chasing the seller for a month, lol. He is 83 and the original owner. Lots of upgrades and repairs to make. It drove well but needs refreshed, it didnt feel "tired" for a car that just turned 100,000 miles. Top needs replaced, drivers seat leather and foam is pretty trashed, a little rust on the rocker panel by the rear wheel wells. Then its onto upgrades, new 15X 7 Wheels and tires, front and rear sway bars, Coilovers or Koni yellow shocks and springs, upgrade the brakes, cat back exhaust, Deuce Roll bar, etc. The paint is in great shape (black) for a 94, the front bumper cover has faded a bit but the body looks to be in good shape. Should be a fun (fairly expensive) project. My wife got a 2021 ND a couple months ago and my son expressed an affection for NA's, so when I found out the guy was thinking of selling, I have been on him ever since. Thanks again for the reply as well as the great video, it will come in handy soon!

      @@OGPedXing update. Got the car and been sorting some stuff out. I ordered a Robbins top last week, canvas with a non zippered window. I also ordered the Deuce center mount like yours. I will be watching your video over and over, lol. Deuce is about 5 weeks to ship so hopefully the top gets here and I can get that installed first.
      I also ordered a set of NB2 seats on Ebay yesterday. Much taller than NA seats and read they should add a little more safety due to the height. Been spending $ like I have it, lol

      After a 3 week bout with covid, I finally got back to working on the car a couple weeks ago. Lots of parts arrived when I was sick.
      I did the Robbins canvas top last weekend (factory style, non zippered window). I got the Deuce bolted in today. Still need to cut the package shelf and carpet. Neither job am I anxious to repeat anytime soon, lol! Turned out great and your video was a HUGE help.
      I have no rubbing at all, raising or lowering the top.
      I had the Deuce powder coated bronze to match the new wheels (sons suggestion), looks too nice to cover with the padding but I ordered it yesterday, safety first. Thanks again for posting this.

    How have those pads/covers held up over time? Was that the leather or vinyl version?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 роки тому +3

      I got the leather version, they still look brand new. I don't leave it out in the sun for long with the top down but other than that I've taken no special precautions with them. Still recommended!

      @@OGPedXing Awesome! Does it give enough padding that you think it would keep my head from cracking open, or is it just a cover? If I put my seat back all the way my head hits the bar...

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 роки тому +3

      @@MrFowl if you get the set from hard dog, you get the SFI rated padding as well. Technically this padding is meant to be used with a helmet so you want to do everything you can as far as seat position and tight seat belt use to hopefully prevent contact, but the pads are way better than nothing. I know of at least one person who got rear-ended in his Miata from a guy going 60+ and his head smacked his padded bar. He got a mild concussion but he's fine. No padding and it would likely be a different story.

      @@MrFowl some people use the SFI padding but also add some lighter foam on top. The second thing is looking into different seats...racing seats or even the taller backed ones from later years Miatas will provide more protection.

    Hi is the seat belt travel any different or difficult over stock

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  5 років тому +1

      The position is the same but the angle is pushed over just a bit. This means you may have to hold it a little differently to have it retract smoothly as opposed to just dropping it and it retracting automatically.

    Another question please but about the padding. Is this just the leather cover or the cover with padding?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 роки тому +1

      It's a leather cover over some sfi rated pads. Pretty good combo since sunlight can degrade the pads quickly if you do a lot of top down driving. I did another quick video with some close ups here: ua-cam.com/video/-i_sFMIhTzY/v-deo.html
