Just subscribed to your channel. I am from Vancouver originally and now living in Calgary. I have been following Delos, RAN, UMA and many other sailing channels and I love them all. The one thing I noticed on all of the channels is that the destination will always be there but it's the trip you do to get there. It's the trip which is the challenge. Love your channel and hope all the best in your upcoming challenges. Safe trips and safe sailing to you both.
Great series. The amount of work needed to get it seaworthy must have seemed endless, a credit to you both. On a personal note the interaction between you both and the dry sense of humour mixed with a touch of stoicism made every episode entertaining. Looking forward to next season.
We sail year round here in beautiful Santa Barbara- in our Hunter 320 - but it does get cold at times, I love the difference in seasons...time to work on the land-home...and time to sail...with family. You have a wonderful area to cruise,I enjoy your journeys. Thank you for all the hard work and humor - it keeps me inspired!
I've been on the water for over 45 years you will learn more and more each time you leave the dock I retired from lobstering 4 years ago been bored out of my mind since finally I bought a old school sloop a Bristol 35 it's in ok shape and as SUMMER of 18 comes along plan to sail Maine and eastern Canada hope maybe to see you out there in the fall will be heading south warmer water and temps great videos hope you'll keep making them
It's really sad that your season is over, but to tell you the truth I really enjoyed your DYI boat repair videos even more than the sailing stuff. I always learn something new or get a good idea from watching you. So thanks for all the effort that you put into making your videos! Can't wait to see the rib come together!
You two looking much more comfortable at the helm. The time off from the boat is a nice reprieve and rebuilds appetite for sailing over the winter. Year 2 you will enjoy so much more as 1st season is the shakedown with all the pitfalls and unknowns. Necessary part of becoming a sailor.
Sorry to see you pull the boat, really means the end of the season. Here on the west coast we don't pull them, the water doesn't freeze so mine stays in and I spend more time living on the boat than living at the house. All summer we live on the boat but the wife just doesn't want to during the winter. As for the head smell not sure if you do it or not but when you sail and are coming back to your slip pump the holding tank full, it's just sea water no big deal, then when you get to your slip and you pump it out nothing "sticks" to the walls of the holding tank. Also use a liquid odor killer but go to Canadian Tire or a RV store as it much cheaper than a marine store.
I love the idea of building a RIB from a mold and would like to rent or buy your mold when your finished! I love to sail and own several nice boats but I don’t have any desire to live on a boat. Love the videos never stop making them.
I enjoy the videos. I live in Ma. and have spent the last 30 years roaming the Atlantic Provinces sea kayaking and hiking. I think the pastoral ocean scenery is wonderful and the way of life meaningful. Sailing is a wonderful way to enjoy the provinces.
Well you've made fools of yourselves and inspired! A 50/50 for sure :) We've followed you guys from the very start, you've kept it real and you've had some lucky/generous breaks for sure. But inspired you have, for sure. Thanks for the videos, and Katie , your voice when talking about your daughter was a give away to what lies unsaid..."this too will come to pass" deep breath, focus on the future! There are many, MANY sailing vlogs, this is this only one I follow, keep keeping it real guys
My fav line of the entire vid is..."Chad...what are you with a dingy again?!" HA! Thanks for sharing all that you do and looking froward to some Chad-O-Matic creations on the dingy! WOOHOO! PEACE OUT!
Thanks for sharing guys, selling everything is a big step of course, and it isn't for everyone.Take your time deciding. When and if you do sell up,sounds to me you might like to get yourselves down to the Med where it's all all year sailing season⛵️ Lots to consider, don't rush it.all the best, see you next time, maybe doing some projects 😊
Great video, very inspiring. I have a C&C 30 that I love. In the winter I fill a lot of time with boat projects and pining for spring. Cheers, keep moving forward.
Hey Chad and Katy - greetings from Wales, UK. I have loved watching your videos as you have progressed from initial purchase and stridown, to getting on the water, really really interesting, especially from the perspective of a non sailor! I have missed not seeing any new videos from you, and am hoping you are both well and OK. I am sure I speak for many of your followers that as we've not heard from you for some time, we all sincerely hope you are both OK.
Thanks John. We are indeed ok! We've just been waiting for boating season. You haven't missed much. We've just been working all winter. We have started boat work and the boat goes in the water soon. Videos will be back in progress soon.
Great to hear Chad/Katy (not sure who replied!). Really looking forward to you sharing your sailing adventures this season. My daughter has persuaded me to do alittle vlog too... about my forthcoming short holiday. You two have inspired me though I am not going to be anywhere near as good as you both are on-camera. Hope you're both well... catch ya soon. Greetings from Wales.
Vancouver had a showing of snow yesterday. The week before I had the air conditioner on. I do see boaters on the Ocean. IE Sailing Doodles taking a boat south from Comox BC its messages like Terrance Bradley said, " So I wish you fair winds and it is videos such as yours that help me through the winter months. Ah yes, only five more months but who's counting?" It opens up a world I like to be part of but health issues forces one UA-cam
Excited to see how this dingy turns out. Man sure does look cold. You two have a great nitch in the way you are going about all this. A #landhome sounds really nice sometimes. Looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds.
Awesome series - you guys are a hoot to watch. I bought my first sailboat last year (Hunter 26) and started watching you because you own a Hunter 34 (which I will eventually get - or a 36). Looking forward to your RHIB video and more summer sailing. Take care.
I put my auto pilot compass on the ceiling (Velcro) of my quarter birth double. Near centerline. Solar= fat boatwire= mppt controller ( my blue sky controller has been great) for 12 yrs now. Panel aft of back stay.(no shade) Eventually Lifeline AGM's I use 3 group 31's. You may want more. Lifespan 15 to 20 yrs. Mine 11 yrs old. 20$ box allowed me to surface mount my Blue Sky. (Velcro) Looking at Engel 27 Fridge mounted under chart table.
Hi you two. Let's have an update please. Binge watched all of your vids over Xmas. I love the honesty of them. My boat a Hunter Sonata is out for winter too. Can't wait for the spring. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from the East coast of Britain. Happy new year :-)
I spent five months more or less each year for the last eight years on my Catalina 27 and my son's 34 Hunter sailing the San Juan islands and the Gulf Islands. The rest of the year in the off season I am stuck landlocked in Ohio since my wife doesn't sail and refuses to move. I find that I really enjoy boat living. What most people don't realize is that your world is a lot larger than just your boat. My marina is a really nice facility and is small enough that I have gotten to know most everyone here. I can ride my bike into town in about ten minutes and there is a park and picnic area at the marina with a beautiful hiking trail nearby. I am well acquainted with far more people at the marina than I am in the rural neighborhood here in Ohio. I have lived here on Pig Eye Creek for almost 40 years and really like my home. So I think I have the best of both worlds. You can opt to spend the season on the water and the off season in the comfort of your home. Nothing wrong with that. You've got a lot of water to explore and a challenging area in which to sail. So I wish you fair winds and it is videos such as yours that help me through the winter months. Ah yes only five more months but who's counting?
You had a beautiful last sailing day of the season. We fell in love with sailing since we made a sea sailing trip last summer in Northern Europe. Subbed to see when you sail away again next year!
Awesome episode Chad/Katie. excited to watch you build the tender :) Haul out came soon but on the bright side the Maritimes are still semi sunny and warm compared to the snow out west lol, they can keep it. Cheers from Charlottetown, Bryan
Sorry to see you leave for the season. I enjoyed your vids very much and hope your legal issues can be resolved hassle-free. In the las vid you showed a water tank. The hoses were fitted with one clamp only. For safety reasons make sure all ! Your hoses especially those going to the sea cocks are fitted with two clamps. Also you may want to store properly sized pluges next to your sea cocks, just in case. Enjoy your work on the boat, have a good off-season, and i am looking forward to your next vids hopefuly in spring time.
You do realize they're in Nova Scotia Canada... Boats tend not to get left in water over winter out there, mainly because it rapidly stops being water in many cases. :P
I haven’t seen new vids did you have to change the name? I really like you’re vids, I think you guys are going to have a blast when you go full time. I really like you’re videos and you’re boat!
ALLO excuse my English I am from Québec.I used to haved a Wonderfull lady like yours she used to play harp in the street of Québec she had long red hair and she had breast cancer and she died the 25 December.Take good care of that nice tall lady
Love your videos guys. Too bad about your brand name. Make the best of it and rebrand as East Coast Life! ;) From one proud Nova Scotian to another, well done!
For a live aboard I'd want a 40 ftr or longer. I've stayed in Campers and you really need room. Good luck staying close to your Daughter. I lost my kids as abandoned and there's no getting them back ever.
It's more of a Quarter birth. The V birth is a bit small for both of us, but we've used it a few times. The rear quarter birth is probably where we will sleep the most this coming season, but we hadn't used it much because one of the cushions needed replacing. We slept most often in the dinning area. drop the table and move the cushions. Slightly annoying to move everything around but lots of room.
Great vid as always! I really recommend that you trash the head and get a composting head. They work well and no smell if cared for and no need sleeping above a waste tank and smelly hoses. #toque
Sorry to hear about problem with site name. From personal experience I know how intellectual property law can be a mine field.....hope you get things resolved without too much pain. FWIW I strongly disagree with the 'head odor is a fact of life' brigade. As a full time live aboard I have worked on and lived with a marine holding tank septic system for over 10 years. IMNHO the key to odor elimination is good system design and installation but, due to space and cost issues, many production boats do not satisfy those basic requirements. We had some odor issues when we first got our boat but they were eliminated after some system changes. The biggest, and the most significant, was changing the holding tank to a design that had all inlet and discharge connections on top and re-plumbing to eliminate all low spots in the hoses. Hose permeation from standing waste is a major problem over time, even with the most expensive hose. A second important change was increasing the holding tank vent line size to 3/4" and installing a second vent line. Having two vents located on opposite corners of the tank ensures good airflow through the tank which promotes aerobic (non stinky) bacteria. Good luck with the RIB build, it'll be interesting to watch. Fair Winds.
This tele person...unfortunate world he lives in... At the Marina in my town I tell people that half the dockings are controlled crashes... Your wife is delightful...absolutely ..You two keep moving ahead...My hunter 31..well .I used stamoid white...the thicker white on both sides. Good news. ...Your 34 is LOA 36 feet. More good news..You have a Yanmar...Also your hull ..is...7/8 inch of hand laid fiberglass up to the waterline. 7/16 from there up...7/8ths is very thick..Your rail is thru bolted every 6 inches which is the toughest deck to hull joint out there. Your standing rigging is way over built...a good thing. Oops. Sent the message before watching thee whole video. Can you send me a AI graphic file or something close of your logo? I can scan and vectorize a bitmap as well. We do vinyl lettering and I can send your a wall decal. Might make a nice background for your winter updates.
Enjoy your videos, but this seems to be one of the best for me... I think because you sounded a little tired and to me when people sound tired... they seem more real and honest, which isn't to say people are ONLY honest and sincere when they are tired... but #blahblahblah #iggypop
U been bit. It’s too late for you, now. You may as well succumb to the fact that you’re destined to live and sail aboard for the rest of your lives. You just need to learn to sail south, into warmer waters.
I am inspired by your masochism--but I would just focus on other tasks and wait till a good dingy deal arises. I guess the die is cast though. You do not have a bottomless bank account of boat project enthusiasm. Use strategic budgeting with your boat project mojo account.
We aren't. We just didn't want to do a VLOG about going to work all winter. ;) Boat work has commenced. We tend to post a little more real time on Facebook.
I really hope you two sailors (and that little girl) have come to your senses and scapped your idea of "building" your life line in the even of a sinking. When your stuffing box stuffed up and your prop shaft was walking around, you could of easily sank that boat right there and then. You are very lucky you were able to punch her back to shore. Given the fact I never seen an EPIRB, a beacon, an InReach, and you were probably thinking VHF and your Cell phone were sufficient Hunters are the thinnest, weakest sailboat there practically is. It is not even a C&C, or a Grampian, and your considering making your own dinghy? I pointed out costs trying to help you save $, as it is obvious you are not very rich, and are trying to "cut corners" This is not a place to cut them. I have had to fish people from lakes before, who were know it all's. I cried every time I had to recover a child. Anyhow... can't wait to see the finished product so I can eat my shorts live here on UA-cam. ps: Sailing a boat on it's ear is sailing at hull speed... the way a sailboat was designed. Good luck. Please hurry with another video. Your vids are scary but entertaining. And with that little girl on board... you best be sailing outside the realm of just entertaining. If you can not see this, maybe this is not for you.

You had a beautiful last sailing day of the season. We fell in love with sailing since we made a sea sailing trip last summer in Northern Europe. Subbed to see when you sail away again next year!
+Dutch Nomad Couple Thanks for subbing! We can't wait for next season :)
Awesome episode Chad/Katie. excited to watch you build the tender :) Haul out came soon but on the bright side the Maritimes are still semi sunny and warm compared to the snow out west lol, they can keep it. Cheers from Charlottetown, Bryan
Very true! Thanks, Bryan :)
We live aboard and sail in new Smyrna Beach Florida. Warm is good. 👍
Sounds lovely!
Remember to use a polyvinyl ester resin for the last coat of fiberglass, or the complete job and you will be fine. FG is easy. Sanding it sux.

Glad to hear the trademark issue is now in good hands. I look forward to next season.
Thanks, Frederic!

I'm excited about #BYOR! can't wait!
Thanks, James! Love the hashtag :)
Buy a shipping container for all your things. Maybe even buy or rent a House on a canal where you can park the Boat in the water right at the house.

34 footer is pretty big is your plan maybe to go south for a winter
Oh question got answered
You don't have that boat smell if you go with a composting head. Something else to build if you want to keep the cost down.
Yeah we've done alot of research on them. They seem interesting, but we'll stick it out with this one for one more season anyhow.
What is the difference between what David is talking about and what you have?
I bet you've finished the fiberglass dinghy by now
Where are you guys??? whats happening in Nova Scotia????
I caught up!!! Thank you guys for sharing!!! Does your boat have a double birth under the back of the boat? If so which birth do you use for sleeping?
It's more of a Quarter birth. The V birth is a bit small for both of us, but we've used it a few times. The rear quarter birth is probably where we will sleep the most this coming season, but we hadn't used it much because one of the cushions needed replacing. Oops. Sent the message before watching thee whole video. Can you send me a AI graphic file or something close of your logo? I can scan and vectorize a bitmap as well. We do vinyl lettering and I can send your a wall decal. Might make a nice background for your winter updates.
Sent you a PM on Facebook :)
GET A COMPOST HEAD AND YOU WILL NEVER SMELL FECES AGAIN!! BEEN THERE AND DID IT! NATURES HEAD

Me too. Your videos were awesome last year, hopefully you'll post again this season : )
Spring update?
soon!
Enjoy your videos, but this seems to be one of the best for me... I think because you sounded a little tired and to me when people sound tired... they seem more real and honest, which isn't to say people are ONLY honest and sincere when they are tired... but #blahblahblah
#iggypop
What a waste of time just buy a good dinghy and use your larger outboard engine on it
Good luck.🤪
Nelayan harus dipersenjatai. seharusnya setiap nelayan yang pergi harus bawa senjata api yang disimpan di syahbandar.
U been bit. It’s too late for you, now. You may as well succumb to the fact that you’re destined to live and sail aboard for the rest of your lives. You just need to learn to sail south, into warmer waters.
#LandHome =)
When saltwater meets pee you get bad sewage smell.
I am inspired by your masochism--but I would just focus on other tasks and wait till a good dingy deal arises. I guess the die is cast though. You do not have a bottomless bank account of boat project enthusiasm. Use strategic budgeting with your boat project mojo account.
Just buy a new dinghy 800
Where's the fun in that! ? :)
:)
hey guys dont do a disapearing act

Given the fact I never seen an EPIRB, a beacon, an InReach, and you were probably thinking VHF and your Cell phone were sufficient
Hunters are the thinnest, weakest sailboat there practically is. It is not even a C&C, or a Grampian, and your considering making your own dinghy?
I pointed out costs trying to help you save $, as it is obvious you are not very rich, and are trying to "cut corners"
This is not a place to cut them.
