Another lovely human being invited. There's an inmate and life choice about honestly and humble in scientist, that all I've got for them is gratefulness and love. Never heard about phosphine or Clara before, thanks a lot Lex.
Got a lot of respect for Lex for keeping his cool during this podcast. Both weren't vibrating on the same level and noticed lots of misalignment of views on topics and interpretation. It's amazing to see how lex kept an open mind while the guest was pretty much close minded for a scientist. Lots of previous guests practicing science showed an open mind and the ability to show that they knew so little. That wasn't the case here. Wondered how much her past played a role in this strong bias that is carried over in her work...
What a great communicator, very enthusiastic, and a great sense of humour! and I think she's made the Lex Fridman podcast the classiest science podcast on the internet
I had the pleasure of being taught physics for a year by Dr. Sousa Silva at 15, her clarity and passion for the subject as well as teaching itself really shone through. I'd be remiss if I didn't add that she taught us at a state school when she could have easily taught elsewhere and gained just as experience teaching and more. I'm entirely unsurprised she's on this podcast, thank you Dr. Sousa Silva!
So much beauty on so many levels. Thank you, Lex and Clara. Oh and thanks for the stackoverflow-comment, Lex. One embarrasses oneself even thinking this, and it was a relief hearing it from someone educated in the field and foremost in thinking. And I hope that comment does not diminish my gratefulness of this talk in ALL its aspects.
She is so awsome! That punshline at the end 🤣 Wow! What an interview! Thank you so much Lex! Keep it coming! You enrich my simple existence and kept me from going insane in quarantine.
it would be really interesting to learn the evolutionary utility of phosphine there must be something since despite all its negatives it persists in the universe
There are a few (speculative) hypothesis on the utility of phosphine: like most molecules that life makes at an energetic cost it is likely produced for complex behavior. For example, it could be used for communication (simpler molecules would lead to ambiguity), defense/attack (it is poisonous to most life on Earth, so plausible) or, my favorite (though unlikely), as part of a bartering economy (because phosphorus is a limiting nutrient for life). I discuss this at length in my papers if you'd like more.

Better than Joe Rogan
“Phosphene sounds interesting but what about DMT on venus?” -joe rogan probably
Kind of in love with this woman. Great podcast!
Another lovely human being invited. There's an inmate and life choice about honestly and humble in scientist, that all I've got for them is gratefulness and love.
Never heard about phosphine or Clara before, thanks a lot Lex.
This was a fascinating first date
Got a lot of respect for Lex for keeping his cool during this podcast.
Both weren't vibrating on the same level and noticed lots of misalignment of views on topics and interpretation.
It's amazing to see how lex kept an open mind while the guest was pretty much close minded for a scientist.
Lots of previous guests practicing science showed an open mind and the ability to show that they knew so little.
That wasn't the case here. Wondered how much her past played a role in this strong bias that is carried over in her work...
yup aliens arent here
Wow, she's brilliant. Fascinating stuff 👌🏼
Time flies when you’re having fun. Ha 🥇

"I'm very passionate about not finding meaning in the universe" is one of the most quotable things I've heard in my life. To Clara goes the credit.
Really? I actually think it's kind of an odd thing to say, I prefer the way Elon looks at space exploration.
@@NikomaGrob did you listen to the context in which she said it?
@@mackenmd Sure did, I still disagree with her statement.
@@NikomaGrob my point is one need believe in one of the invented gods in order to have meaning.
Lex never fails to stimulate the mind!! great job brother!!!
Lex Fridman, thanks for this ep! Scientists from small countries must be introduced to the world! There are so many and so bright! Go Portugal! :D
Great chemistry
But can you detect it in the atmosphere?
What a cool guest! She is awesome!
I’m dumb and these two made it easy to follow along. Fantastic interview. Thanks Lex and Carla!
She is absolutely charming and this was such an interesting conversation. Thank you for everything you do Lex...I am hooked on your conversations!
What a great communicator, very enthusiastic, and a great sense of humour!
and I think she's made the Lex Fridman podcast the classiest science podcast on the internet

Sounds proper English to me

@@thealienpredatorfly She's got a bit of a British twang here and there but definitely Portuguese.
@@limelalves9192 lmao, you tell them 😂😂
Ah damn, you two had really good chemistry! I wasn't even interested in that phosphine but it was a pleasure to listen!
Same here
Mr.Fridman, there's only one question left to ask Miss Clara after this podcast♥️
Lex trying to sell her on Aliens 👽 is cute. Rogan yes, “it say it ain’t so Lex.” lol.
This gals a rockstar. So young to have done so much.
Clara is absolutely great.
My man want's to know the meaning of life.
What is the meaning of the life of a flower?
If your boyfriend wants to know the meaning of life, he should watch this podcast.

@@clarasousasilva4205 dumb question, but is your sensor 24 bit leading a maximum measurement of 2^24? Or the approx of 16.8 million.
