    Toyota has made it very clear that it really does not have its heart and mind into building pure EVs... Toyota sees pure EVs as the fool's gold of the auto industry for the immediate future... and, I agree with them... there needs to be a spectrum of power sources for autos and Toyota is diligently working on those and will eventually succeed.

      AKIO Toyoda was right except on 1 aspect, if the technology isn't viable today, doesn't mean you have to dismiss it. Because, you will fall behind and have a lot harder time catching up. I favor PHEVs, but battery technology is moving fast. CATL is already developing a Sodium based battery, which might be the answer.

      PHEVs are a different animal than hybrids... they are basically an EV intersected with a gas engine and thus, very complex and expensive to build... that is why Toyota's production of PHEVs is slow and it takes a very long time to get them... plus, the high consumer costs is prohibitive to the average auto consumer as is EVs... that being said, with the advancement of battery technology, there will probably be some major breakthroughs for the average consumer.@@dwadd7528

      Well... if your knowledge and business acuity of the auto industry exceeds that of Toyota's I would certainly like to see your bona fides... you try some things, you fail at some, and you win some... Toyota has the ability and skills to overcome its losses but makes up for them with its stupendous and highly profitable wins... say compared to GM and Ford.@@bmw803

    I own a Subaru Solterra. I agree that its range is underwhelming and the recharge process is very slow but since I’m a retired senior, neither point is relevant. I charge it overnight in my garage on a level 1 charger. It is always ready to go in the morning. What matters most to me is its very smooth and almost silent ride. It handles very well and I find the cabin attractive and comfortable. For me, it’s perfect but I understand why it is not suitable for everyone.

    • @rylans.5365
      @rylans.5365 9 місяців тому +2

      I think that there are plenty of EV options that fit a variety of needs. The reason the Mazda MX-30 had a limited release in the U.S, is because of how small the market is. The car is great for a European city dweller, where it was first introduced. The Solterra is not a great EV, but it’s a step in the right direction. In the U.S we have so many other EV options, with a standard range of 240-300+ miles, which is more than enough for daily usage. In general, EVs have already proven to be generally more reliable than gas counterparts. Of course however, reliability also depends on the brand itself. And yes, EVs are expensive! However, that number is going down very fast. The average transaction price of a new EV is down nearly $15,000 since September 2022, dropping from $65,295 to $50,683. We are still in the early stages, which is why EV purchases are incentivized, to grow interest and potential. Mainstream EVs have only been out for about 15 or so years. We have already seen lots of innovation in that short timeframe, and we will continue to see that. I am remaining optimistic, and I hope you can too.

      I looked at a used Camry, and a used Niro EV. The Niro was only $9k more, while the Camry was 8 years old, 150k miles on it. Now I save $100 a month on gas, and will save more if it goes way up like it did in 2022. Plus it's waaaay more fun to drive.
      To each their own. My power company also will offer 6.75 cents charging at off peak, and all I have to do to get it is install a ChargePoint Flex. When that happens, my costs will be cut in half vs normal rates.

    Toyota is not sold on pure EVs yet and its focus for the foreseeable future will be on hybrids/plug-in hybrids; this approach seems to have been validated by the recent slump in pure EV sales which took many manufacturers, especially Tesla, by surprise. Personally, I think all pure electric vehicles, not just the ones made by Toyota/Subaru, are stop gap until the fast evolving battery technology can produce much better EVs in terms of range and charging speeds, and I'm not even mentioning the dearth of charging stations which is a very real problem even in large cities. Until that happens, I'm sticking with either hybrid or gasoline vehicles, thank you very much!

      Really good points. Quite frankly, I believe that the Toyota/Subaru EVs were built precisely for the reason this video's author stated - stop gap. Or, to translate into political/marketing reasons, to get the Feds off their back, and to placate the envirowackos in the marketplace. Toyota is not embracing the current EV insanity (good for them), and they'll focus upon their hybrid offerings, which are the best in the business.

    I'd have to disagree about the Blazer with the 3.6. The engine is smooth and pairs up well with the 9 speed transmission with AWD. Now the old 2.5 4 cylinder was underwhelming, for a vehicle the size of the Blazer, and Chevy got rid of it for the 2021 model year. I have a 2020, with the 3.6 AWD and it drives well, handles well and has plenty of power. Also it depends on the trim level when it comes to how its made, like with the 2020 LS and LT1 models, LT2 and above have much nicer materials. Now when it comes to bad vehicles from Chevy, I'd choose the Sonic or the 5.3 liter Silverado, The Sonic is barely a car and is cheaply made and the 5.3 liter Silverado has much more expensive issues, especially with the engine going bad at 5000 miles being more common than it should.

    How wrong was I? In April 2022 believe I made a big mistake. I leased my 22 Kona. I realize I should focus on the selling price, but honestly, my main concern was the monthly payment. So I put down $1000....at first. Then called and put down another,$1000 towards it. When signing papers I was going to to do 36k mikes 36mos. Then thinking at the time I may need 48k in thev36 mos. Life changed. At this point I have 8250miles. Way under. With that said, hiw wrong was I putting down 2k and do you think by the time my lease is up that maybe my low miles will help me much? By then I bet I will be close to only 10000 miles.

    I'm an American but have not bought an American car for many years. I have had great owner satisfaction with Honda, Toyota, and Mazda. Besides the fact that American cars are expensive for what you get, I don't feel comfortable buying an American car made by a resentful UAW worker given that the UAW has had seemingly countless strikes throughout my life. Maybe that is unfair but it is my money and that's how I will spend it on cars.
