Sandy Reed, the announcer was a close friend of my Dad's. They shared an office together in the 60s on Wilshire Blvd. Sandy was one of the funniest men, I've ever known. He was the mainstay announcer at Riverside Raceway and did some gigs at Ascot Park and other venues around Southern California. He died a few years ago, but he sure knew how to have fun. He also liked to prank the spectators from the announcer's booth. It looked like they used a lot of stock footage from real NASCAR races. Frankie Avalon's car was a dead ringer for Richard Petty's No. 43 Plymouth. Petty was winning everything in sight those days, so it would make sense that the movie's hero would drive his car. Petty was also known for that blue. We used to call it 'Petty Blue.'

I remember this movie fresh in the theatres when as a kid I didn't know if it was all the thrills gum, pop, or others cigarette smoke that I always walked out of the show with. Good 😊 times!👍

Also, that Figure Eight Race took place at the old Bonelli Ranch Racetrack in Saugus, California ; during the mid-60's I worked right next door at Bermite Powder Comany. lol

I stand by my opinion that I formed of this movie nearly 50 years ago, that it's an attempt to make a less silly, a bit more "mature" version of the Beach movies. Same principals, same director and producers from AIP.
Note that the hillbilly at 26:57 is one of the billy's from "Deliverance" I think...or Jerry's uncle on "Seinfeld".....I believe Avalon's car is a classic done by Barris. Someone please correct me if I am wrong...

At first I was excited to have found a Frankie & Annette movie I hadn't seen! Then I was less excited when I realized it wasn't such a great movie. By halfway through, I was struggling, what with the nonsensical script & 2 dimensional characters, so I had a break. I fell asleep twice during the second half & really had to force myself to go back & watch what I'd missed... Nah, I'm only joking! I couldn't stomach the second half & gave it a miss. Thanks for sharing this dog of a movie. At least the cars were cool... I guess...

They did at one time....unfortunately!!!! To many old convertibles were made into race cars and now they are super hard to find because of that!!!! What a waste!!!!! It was NASCAR that raced them....
