The film shows 3 bouts of sparring. Two bouts are the practice of bayonet against kendo shinai, and one bout is the practice of bayonet against practice bayonet.
In accordance with the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, the Imperial Japanese Navy supplied a fleet of ships to help, defend Allied shipping in the Mediterranean theater of operations during World War I. This occurred from 10 February 1917 - 2 July 1919. This film was shot on board one of those ships in the fleet.
