We are rapidly approaching the intersection of DBI and Brian David Gilbert, and I don't know if I'm ready for such a masterpiece. Also, yes, "EVISCERATED" deserves to be printed at that size.
The premise is that one or two cast members are put in makeup and costume without knowing what they're going to look like, are given a few minutes to come up with a character when it's revealed to them, then have to improvise an interview with Vic. It's insane and I love it.
I didn't think the joke that would make me laugh hardest would be Vic saying "your entire platoon..." before it cuts to her notes saying *EVISCERATED* in big bold letters
I see it more as DBI is a grand master of simplification and iconography. A lot of times his animations have me repicking up Understanding Comics to read a chapter or two.
I appreciate that your style is generally to give people small faces in the middle of their head which meant having to make Tommy's face NOTICABLY smaller
I love those times Zac has someone on the ropes and they can't stop laughing. Then, for whatever reason, he just keeps going in, seeing how long he can make it go.
The added detail of his uncle being there cheering him on xD "Good job nephew, I literally could not be more proud of you, your actions and the results of your actions."
YES VIP animations!! Zac Oyama is such a master of comedy, to have THIS be the episode that breaks Vic when the Ex-Step-Grandmother episode is one of the funniest things I've seen in my entire life? Give him a little clap, y'all.
ALSO, Zac's work with this character is a FLAWLESS parody of bad, toxic-positivity "wellness" influencers and/or motivational speakers: - Dark past event they've come back from is WAY worse than you'd think and haven't taken any actual accountability - Only philosophy is "be positive" - Finds a harsh phrase like "get your head outta your ass" and thinks it's "tough love" instead of just being a jerk - Terrible at business and minutes from bankruptcy so please buy my product - Only succeeded/escaped very bad things of their own creation due to privilege and connections - Promotes "mental health" but all their past misfortune is actually just bad behavior and knows nothing about actual mental health struggles beyond 'feeling bad about myself (because of the bad things I've done I don't want to acknowledge)''" - Looks physically impressive, primarily as a result of steroids, cosmetic surgery, or both (ironically does not recognize or accept their likely body dysmorphia) The fact that it's all improvised is so very impressive.
zach truly has an ability to break people's composure that's unmatched, like i think he's make nearly every person on the dropout cast that he's been in a thing with lose their shit laughing. the only exception might be katie marovich, but i think if he had been on the episode of breaking news where everyone tries to get her to laugh then she would've lost.
The weird vocal fry on, "That was *AS DARK* as it gets..." like Tommy alllllllmost had a human emotion for just a second. 😂 Meanwhile Vic was legit in tears throughout. Incredible.
Vic being drawn as if she is constantly on the verge of a breakdown in every single frame, without exception or exaggeration, is what elevates your work from simple "animations" to true ART. Also the fact that the subtitles are actual subtitles. 10/10
Something that never fails to astound me is the sheer skill in the audio editing of this Like the first animation i ever watched of yours was the Merobiba one, and imagine my utter surprise when i watched the original and found you had taken clips from all over thay section and made them absolutely flow together Well its something similar to how i felt just now. Just try to imagine the amount of times he had to listen to Jacob scream to get the face right for the animation.... the running it back hundreds of times while editing..... and getting the sound mixing right..... it's madness.
Sometimes, I think Dropout makes content thinking "How can we make something that DBI will feel spiritually obligated to animate?" They made VIP, Make Some Noise, and now Smarty Pants. All of these shows seem perfect for you to harvest hilarious moments and turn them into great animations.

Aside from the scene itself, mad props for capturing Vic's mad pan to camera on the intros. And it says something about both you and the show that what you added (like the 911 call held up to catch his confession) feels like it belongs in the actual interview as it was filmed.
Absolute peak, Vic is always such an awesome straightman and seeing that even at her extremely high level of skill she breaks at "i turned it into 16 *thousand* dollars" is beautiful
I still love that Zac actually made Vic break character multiple times in that episode. Lol You truly captured Tommy perfectly in your style. I genuinely believe that this man hunted down his entire platoon, one by one in the dead of night, because they drank the last Coke and left him with Coke Zero.
Amazing animation. One thing you miss out on from the original is that when Mr. Shriggly is asking Vic if she "feels better," insistently, it's seconds after dumping barely FDA approved protein supplement powder down her throat and all over her face
I love how big and wide Tommy and Uncle Scriggly look (not to be confused with Uncle Quigley from Sabrina the Teenage Witch: The Animated Series) in comparison to the other round characters that are usually around the same height as each other. The quick cuts on the infamous $100,000 to $16,000 exchange were also a nice touch. Also appreciate the subtitles and credits to the person doing the subtitles 👍
