I too was struggling to find something that worked well for both street and dirt ... it has been an absolute awesome mod!! The setup is by far the best useable mirror setup I've ever had on a DS and I've been doing the DS stuff since the late 1970s! ... dating myself some here. I can provide a more detailed video on the setup if you like...just drop me a comment and I'll make a non-public video with all the details and close ups. Thank you for the kind feedback. Have a nice one...

Thank you for the kind feedback.... The mod has worked out great!! I can actually use my mirrors on road and don't ever notice them (tucked away) off road.

I did your mod and finally rode with it, much better than stock position, someone should make a kit to do this mod. They worked so good I fell and broke some dam ribs, I guess it's going to be a minute before I ride again. so bummed! Anyway great MOD, upgrade for sure.

Glad you like the mod...so sorry to hear about your ribs (though they should be healed by now). I agree, too bad one of the off road companies hasn't tackled having better mirror mounting options. My current setup (this video) has been working out extremely well for both on and off road adventures ... it is right up there with my handlebar vibration mod.

I was thinking I could just use my GPS unit and turn on the backup camera... But since mirrors are required for street legal anyway may as well go that route. Cool to see that you wouldn't settle until it worked... persistence is a cool trait to have...
I may make a 3D printed plastic version of your mount idea, so as to have a "breakaway mount"... so the weakest link would be the heavy plastic base mount thus saving everything else... I could place a tether across the mount to make sure the mirrors don't get lost during a breakaway .. I'd print out spares to carry along... and could use PETG for good strength. I just got a Ferret scanner, so I can scan the bike and model parts to fit like a glove... test fit with 3D printer, and send off to a milling house if I want AL parts.. thanks for letting us know there is a shorty version of the Doubletake...

Sounds like a pretty cool project (imaging & 3D printing) ... my current setup (this video) has been working out extremely well for both on and off road adventures. I'm curious to hear how your project goes/turns out ... it is right up there with my handlebar vibration mod. Have a nice one...

Thank you for the kind feedback... I wish I didn't need to have, or need to use, mirrors...unfortunately, the Las Vegas traffic is far to risky without knowing what's not stopping behind you. and with my neck fused at several levels...turning my head to check what's in my blind spots (or behind me) is not an option...I do not have enough movement in my neck to do much other than look about 90 degrees from forward. I've been riding DS bikes since 1978 and these #5 mirror setup has been nothing short of awesome for me. I don't even notice that they are there (off roading) went folded down into the bars. Thanks again for the comments...
