It never ceases to amaze me how a few people would give these superb musicians a down thumb? Each to their own I guess. For me, though they are part of my life and I have been lucky enough to attend their musical brilliance in several concerts over the years.

Not much a fan of taking Scots songs into English. Strips away some of the soul, I think.

This song reminds me of Braveheart. This a awesome song and I agree with those who say the harmonies are amazing and quite spooky but in a good way. Brilliant stuff.

There are 400 years between the events of "Braveheart" or William Wallace (died 1305) and the Act of Union (1707) which this song refers to. Braveheart may be what it's about in spirit but not in fact.

LiteGauge. Braveheart was NOT Wallace but Robert the Bruce!!!! Study your history.

Mark D'Aulerio Nonsense! Braveheart was about Sir William Wallace. Wallace fought for Scotland and it’s people but Bruce fought for personal ambition and the crown. This song is about the treacherous act of union in 1707, and it was written by the great Robert Burns

dav01kar, So true, a known opponent has limited power to harm, but the traitor within is the true enemy, always pointing the finger of blame away from the truth. Oil, devolution, back to oil again. Is this song about english rogues, or Scottish rogues ????????? or both ???

Wallace was nothing like the Mel Gibson bullshit Hollywood fantasy brave heart other than he got the chop in the end

It was the spirit of the thing rather than in the detail ..you're such a cheery positive character...and the fact the Edward 1 was on a land grab...a bit like today...

Try reading about the Alien Act of 1705. Two acts went through the English Parliament. One was an offer to Scotland of full union which included the reparation/bribes. The other was an Alien Act which threatened that if Scotland did not accept the offer of union then there would be an economic blockade against the country and that Scots would lose their rights to property held in England. Remember most of the Scottish aristos had property in London by then as that is where the royal court was. So yes the Scottish aristos accepted moneys for voting for union - but that is only half the story! They were also swayed by the economic blackmail of what would happen should they refuse. That doesn't even take into the account that an English army was sent to the border as well.

dav01kar A government not voted for by the people who rioted when it happened. The wealthy Scots, losing their wealth were bribed by English gold. Nothing to do with Scots hating the English, a myth.
