    after having owned this for 4 years, I gotta say, I've really been grazing the surface only. Glad I found this video again, I just don't have the patience for long winded tutorials. This guy gets right into it with a dope beat being made the whole time, this is how to teach

    This was great and probably the most important concept is "here is how you actually use the thing." May we also hear from the engineers about their thinking as they designed it and why they built it the way they did. Certainly that helps to conceptualize the device.

    It may not be as immediately sexy as this video, but Elektron should do another release and like this "WORKFLOW", call it "FILE SYSTEM" and go through the Elektron OS structure of how projects and sound pools are organized. This is the achilles heel of Electrons device adoption by musicians new to the kompany: The fundamental understanding of project hierarchy.

    I had the opportunity to borrow one of these and I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to get this thing to work. Overbridge helps but a super in-depth tutorial would be helpful. Lot's of menu digging and a need to understand the logic and workflow of the machine. It sounds good...but it made me miss my Tempest a bit.

    What's the difference between Analog Rytm and Machinedrum UW? Great work Elektron!

    • @ronnieperez7650
      @ronnieperez7650 9 років тому

      Reklam Chef Tons of differences, but they both have their strengths. Machinedrum is all sample clips, the RYTM is internal analog synthesis and samples.
      Machinedrum has way more synthesis types, though all digital. And RYTM has MUCH LESS synthesis controls but a rounder, fatter tone.

    so is Analog Rytm basiclly octatrack and analog four both in ONE???

    • @felixbutt3111
      @felixbutt3111 8 років тому

      +Dragan Delic the octatrack is a sampler, the Four is a synth and this is a drum-machine with rather small synthesizer capabilities.

    • @Kotomachu
      @Kotomachu 7 років тому

    Rytm or Octatrack? Damn! Ideally both but I want one of them first.

    • @ronnieperez7650
      @ronnieperez7650 9 років тому +4

      onnolab I've heard many people say Octatrack first. I got the RYTM only and the sample limitations sometimes make me wish I had an octatrack. Plus the OT can become the center of your studio because you can actually record your other synthesizers into it and make it part of your sequence.
      Very versatile.
      Oh and don't let the lack of "Overbridge" sway you, Overbridge sucks for RYTM. It bombed in my opinion. I don't bother with it at all, the machine alone works better. (Though Overbridge for Analog Four is bang-on)
      I do think both OT and RYTM are great in their own way, but OT is just something you'll never get tired of (unless you own an MPC or something that can record tracks live and glitch them.)
      The RYTM has it's great moments for sure, the overdrive is an excellent sound. And technically the OT can be reproduced on any DAW at higher sample rates. The choice is yours :)

Beats from scratch step by step. You did it once with those Hector videos for Machinedrum which although creepy were easy to follow.

    What are the actual application differences between this and the Octatrack?

    • @CarlGontheBeat
      @CarlGontheBeat 8 років тому +1

      Octatrack is a sampler and a sequencer. The analog rytm is a beat machine that creates its own sounds. There is no sound engine in the octatrack other then sample playback.

    • @eph_kni
      @eph_kni 8 років тому +1

      +Paul A (i own neither so don't just a heads up...)
      The main differences I've found:
      interface, drum synthesis, effects, workflow. From what I've found, there are a lot of similarities between the two machines but the Octatrack seems more applicable as the "center" or "brain" of an workflow. If I were to pick between the two, (and this is based off of my current workflow) I would choose the Rytm, mostly because I would could the extra DSP and tangibility while working with Ableton and the rest of my gear. From what I've found from forums, the Rytm also has better FX engine the other drum machines Elektron has released (the machinedrum) AND the Rytm also has scale options unlike the Octatrack and the MachineDrum. Personally, I feel a couple hours with either machine would decide which to pick, but if you're looking for a drum machine that does it all (real-time perform, synthesize, sequence), I'd choose the Rytm, but if you're looking for a more calculative performance machine you could choose the Octatrack.
      just a reminder, this comment has information based not on personal experience but from research (which for me, is probably more accurate)

    • @Cooperman666ROFL
      @Cooperman666ROFL 9 років тому

      RhythmDroid
      I think only 4 of them are analog. even so, if you use the digital voices why have a non- removable limit? It shouldn't have to share in certain situations, if digital voices are used on the choke groups you should have the option of turning them off.

    • @rhythmdroid
      @rhythmdroid 9 років тому

      8 voices, each with an analog drum engine and a digital sample playback engine. The benefit of grouping the sample playback engine with the analog drum engine is that both of them are then mixed together and sent through a true analog filter and analog overdrive stage, and analog envelope. Think of having the sample playback engine on each voice as a bonus.

    • @Cooperman666ROFL
      @Cooperman666ROFL 9 років тому

      RhythmDroid
      Yeah but why not have the option of only using a sample and not using the subtractive analog compnents, so that you can have more polyphony? There is no way around the choke groups, that's what I'm talkin about. You are forced to sacrifice polyphony no matter what, why not have the choice of using the 8 analog voices and not use them on the rest (if you want to). It's not thatcomplicated, should have been added I think.

    • @rhythmdroid
      @rhythmdroid 9 років тому

      +Cooperman666ROFL If you want additional digital polyphony, you'd then have to reroute the sample playback engine out of the voice's analog processing stage (overdrive, filter) and then have it's own digital processing section...not only is that cumbersome, but the Machinedrum is what already does that very well.
