after having owned this for 4 years, I gotta say, I've really been grazing the surface only. Glad I found this video again, I just don't have the patience for long winded tutorials. This guy gets right into it with a dope beat being made the whole time, this is how to teach
This was great and probably the most important concept is "here is how you actually use the thing." May we also hear from the engineers about their thinking as they designed it and why they built it the way they did. Certainly that helps to conceptualize the device.
It may not be as immediately sexy as this video, but Elektron should do another release and like this "WORKFLOW", call it "FILE SYSTEM" and go through the Elektron OS structure of how projects and sound pools are organized. This is the achilles heel of Electrons device adoption by musicians new to the kompany: The fundamental understanding of project hierarchy.
Great tutorial hope there will be more ! I As owner of MD,A4,MNM and Octatrack I think MNM and Octatrack are the hard ones to crack! :) A4 and MD are very straight forward and the second two I find really hard to use, please upload some for those machines!
I had the opportunity to borrow one of these and I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to get this thing to work. Overbridge helps but a super in-depth tutorial would be helpful. Lot's of menu digging and a need to understand the logic and workflow of the machine. It sounds good...but it made me miss my Tempest a bit.
Jake, you've now sold me on the rytm, digitone, octatrack mk2, the A4 and I'm getting the analog heat tomorrow -- stop before I'm totally broke ^_^ . #ElektronautProblems
...wouldnt it be great, to asign different Tempos to different Scenes, so that you can break down your tune from 120 to 60 BPM for example, or any time you want?
@@TristanBaldi neither do I... how could I even think of selling my M:C!!! :D :D It was a joke. I thought selling my Volca Bass after getting the Moog Minituar... the Volca is still in my collection (and used):
@@turntheknob hahaha same I wanted to sell the subharmonicon to get a machinedrum, and K just can't sell it... Hooked it up with the deluge Saturday, made a full track with it instantly. It's hard to get rid of these... Still really want a machinedrum or Rytm tho... It's tough!
thx.. athought here > it would be great in any "workflow"/"basics"/"getting to know" video such as this if the content was available for new users to follow along with.. Learn by doing is 10x the value of learn by watching..
Reklam Chef Tons of differences, but they both have their strengths. Machinedrum is all sample clips, the RYTM is internal analog synthesis and samples. Machinedrum has way more synthesis types, though all digital. And RYTM has MUCH LESS synthesis controls but a rounder, fatter tone.
hehe, the same sound on two pads. thats not a feature, thats a limitation. but you advertising it very nice :-) :-) awesome. the rytm is on my wishlist
I have the Rytm slave to MPC when I send a pattern program change to the Rytm, it starts 1/4 beat after. is there any solution? it makes the live performance impossible thanks
I'm considering bring a RYTM in to my setup. Just curious; is there a way to set the velocity settings of the pads to "fixed" so any hit to them comes out at full volume?
onnolab I've heard many people say Octatrack first. I got the RYTM only and the sample limitations sometimes make me wish I had an octatrack. Plus the OT can become the center of your studio because you can actually record your other synthesizers into it and make it part of your sequence. Very versatile. Oh and don't let the lack of "Overbridge" sway you, Overbridge sucks for RYTM. It bombed in my opinion. I don't bother with it at all, the machine alone works better. (Though Overbridge for Analog Four is bang-on) I do think both OT and RYTM are great in their own way, but OT is just something you'll never get tired of (unless you own an MPC or something that can record tracks live and glitch them.) The RYTM has it's great moments for sure, the overdrive is an excellent sound. And technically the OT can be reproduced on any DAW at higher sample rates. The choice is yours :)
PLEASE PLEASE come to India. You guys have forever impressed me but there's no god damn place where i can pick one up from. If i get it from the US i would still not be able to get local service support. You guys should immediately appoint dealers in India. We are a country of 1.3 bn. Numbers wont be a problem.
Olivander12 probably the octatrack because only limited to what kind of samples you can create/find and where you go from there can be... anything... although the analog series have great sound making capabilities. Never used the mm or md, just the newer boxes.
I've owned Machinedrum UW, Monomachine, Analog Rytm, and Analog Keys. Out of those I would actually say the Monomachine is the most versatile. It's incredibly sad it's not made anymore... I really, really hope that Elektron replaces it in their line up someday.
I think NI captured that market with the Maschine products ... and later Ableton created a masterpiece with Push 2. Producing music "out of the box" is definitely an older and more expensive path for modern creatives ...
s lenn Well he did want to set some minute parameters differently on both notes. It's a lot more trouble to do this on the same track, the quicker way was separate ones. But yeah, definitely possible.
+Ronnie Perez Yea, the more I thought about I realised I realise there'd be no point in using just one track cos with the other ones not really left free anyway due to it being choked out by this track.
Anyone know a way to set velocity to 100 on pads? I never bothered looking and can't seem to get there fast, so I end up tapping the buttons instead. It just I have to bang them so hard to get them to register 100, I'd rather get 100 right away and then adjust velocity after.
Paul McKnight its coming through his vocal mic. Though they are loud, you would never hear them with headphones on or in a live setting. Hardly a nuisance when in the studio. I think he likes to click them extra tough...
Elektron. Not sure what you were trying to achieve producing this "workflow" video. What you should be doing (to encourage sales) is to provide more BEGINNERS tutorials. Beats from scratch step by step. You did it once with those Hector videos for Machinedrum which although creepy were easy to follow.
Octatrack is a sampler and a sequencer. The analog rytm is a beat machine that creates its own sounds. There is no sound engine in the octatrack other then sample playback.
+Paul A (i own neither so don't just a heads up...) The main differences I've found: interface, drum synthesis, effects, workflow. From what I've found, there are a lot of similarities between the two machines but the Octatrack seems more applicable as the "center" or "brain" of an workflow. If I were to pick between the two, (and this is based off of my current workflow) I would choose the Rytm, mostly because I would could the extra DSP and tangibility while working with Ableton and the rest of my gear. From what I've found from forums, the Rytm also has better FX engine the other drum machines Elektron has released (the machinedrum) AND the Rytm also has scale options unlike the Octatrack and the MachineDrum. Personally, I feel a couple hours with either machine would decide which to pick, but if you're looking for a drum machine that does it all (real-time perform, synthesize, sequence), I'd choose the Rytm, but if you're looking for a more calculative performance machine you could choose the Octatrack. just a reminder, this comment has information based not on personal experience but from research (which for me, is probably more accurate)
RhythmDroid I think only 4 of them are analog. even so, if you use the digital voices why have a non- removable limit? It shouldn't have to share in certain situations, if digital voices are used on the choke groups you should have the option of turning them off.
8 voices, each with an analog drum engine and a digital sample playback engine. The benefit of grouping the sample playback engine with the analog drum engine is that both of them are then mixed together and sent through a true analog filter and analog overdrive stage, and analog envelope. Think of having the sample playback engine on each voice as a bonus.
RhythmDroid Yeah but why not have the option of only using a sample and not using the subtractive analog compnents, so that you can have more polyphony? There is no way around the choke groups, that's what I'm talkin about. You are forced to sacrifice polyphony no matter what, why not have the choice of using the 8 analog voices and not use them on the rest (if you want to). It's not thatcomplicated, should have been added I think.
+Cooperman666ROFL If you want additional digital polyphony, you'd then have to reroute the sample playback engine out of the voice's analog processing stage (overdrive, filter) and then have it's own digital processing section...not only is that cumbersome, but the Machinedrum is what already does that very well.
wow. 6 years later and still relevant!

This is killer. I find myself sitting here at work on a friday, and ALL I can think about is getting home to play!
Premiere for our new workflow series. First out is Analog Rytm with more machines to follow next week.
9 years later, the best drum machine ever
finally a product presenter who knows what he's doing, nice machine, nice video!!
@7:30 I think that this feature is absolutely amazing! I love it!
Drooling over this machine right now!! Looks really powerful
Cycling samples while live recording at 7:20 is so frickin cool! I have to go try that!
At first I was like "meh", but that pattern developed into something with a nice, unique vibe. Very cool.

overbridge
it helps, but for some reason my version is different from what Dataline's video shows
Can you explain why it's special?
This is the best tutorial video by far. Nice one Cenk and elektron. What a machine!
The Elektron Jedi strikes again! Nice work as always Cenk!
He makes it look so easy..!
I wish I rock my bald spot with such confidence...
Nice trick recording the sample slot changes! So that's how you do this!
Very nice as always, Dataline! Digging the boom bap vibe here. Awesome use of samples and scenes.
That glitch part! Sounds awesome!

KILLED that demo!! thank you
Very inspiring Video and a cool idea to record the Sample-Choice-Menu.
Great video. Look forward to the rest of the series.
Very useful! And that sounds! Very good initiative from Elektron, thank you.
What an awesome machine. I crap the love out of this thing.
Excellent video now this makes sense to me!!!!! Amazing possibilities.... Already own the Rytm now this will be my next purchase!
Sympa!
I've never thought about the change of samples in real time...
And I like the rhythm you did.

I can't wait to try this when my unit arrives.
Best Creative Video for now. and it's beautiful ! Nice done Cenk ! Hey HIPHOP people will want it as well !!! :)
Jake, you've now sold me on the rytm, digitone, octatrack mk2, the A4 and I'm getting the analog heat tomorrow -- stop before I'm totally broke ^_^ . #ElektronautProblems
It’s Cenk, not Jake.
this thing is so effing insane. resistance is futile. i will succumb to the dark side.
...wouldnt it be great, to asign different Tempos to different Scenes, so that you can break down your tune from 120 to 60 BPM for example, or any time you want?
That is actually a really fine feature suggestion.
or maybe a clock divide/multiply feature based off the master clock?
Welcome to 2019, when you can do this!
Octatrack
Watching this video in November 2020... it makes want to buy an Analog Rytm! (...and get rid of my M:C...)

What I want to know is...where did he get that awesome shirt?
Anyone know what that stand is he has for the RYTM? Can't seem to find a decent stand for it and that one looks perfect
sounds cool
damn.Master Dataline
Can you make different tones in the base tone track or only one? I like to make my base tones groove, so I use several different notes.
Feck I want this badly...hey forum tell me how best do I add sliders to this thing? I want a slider for each of the 12 tracks
man I want him to make this into a track so I can listen!!
I have the Rytm slave to MPC when I send a pattern program change to the Rytm, it starts 1/4 beat after.
is there any solution?
it makes the live performance impossible

if you havent read the manual in the last 8 years lol, then yes, yes you can have fixed velocity
so is Analog Rytm basiclly octatrack and analog four both in ONE???
+Dragan Delic the octatrack is a sampler, the Four is a synth and this is a drum-machine with rather small synthesizer capabilities.
But you can use external samples for the drum machine, so you are not limited :)
How much to buy this guy along with the hardware? :)
Rytm or Octatrack? Damn! Ideally both but I want one of them first.

so cool! i'm interested in learning to work with hardware like this...what's a cheaper option?
there's a lot options in samplers/sequencers in general, study as much before buying and deciding what setup you wanna use.
