What a great episode! Petra, I love your haircut. I love the Tiffany box hint for an advent sweater, and the little mittens are so cute. So, do you mix yarn brands on a project, it the yardages are comparable? Tashie (I thought it was cute when your mother called you that), the demo was great! I would love to see Petra knit on DPN’s doing color work. And: you have over 5K subscribers! Yay! Smart knitters. Happy Holidays to you both and yours, especially elegant Anna. ❤️🧶🎄
Thank you for your lovely comments, yes we do mix different yarns together. I used to be concerned about it, but fir the most part it works. For something like the advent mittens and gnomes, anything goes really. We try and use what we have. Happy new year.
Your doggie is so funny. I did a screenshot of when he was right in the center of the camera. It is hilarious. The back of his head is all you can see and his cute little ears. I wanted to send you the photo but don’t know how. 😂 haha
Hi there - I wanted to tell you about a new podcast called “Knitting with Kim and Jonna” they are in Westchester NY! Kim does a whole video on a Marie Wallins sweater she did and how she converted it to knitting it in the round. Anyway they are lovely ladies. I know they ran into the guys from needle at the ready at Westport yarns - anyway I think they could be another resource for your sweater making and also I think another great podcast to watch! Happy holidays! Happy New Year!!
Thanks for another great podcast. Really admire your full color work sweater and finishing the pattern for your friend that was started awhile ago, can't wait to see it finished!
I absolutely love your podcasts. You keep me smiling as you chat about your knitting and then puppy decides to make an unscheduled appearance. 😅 I am finishing up a Love Note and closing in on a finish of my Eirian poncho, a very fun pattern, perfect for Florida winters. Thank you for your podcasts and Merry Christmas!🎄🧶🐶
You girls saying that one of the greatest knitwear designers of all time needs to try harder with her patterns had me in absolute stitches (excuse the pun) and then the laughter turned to terror when I realised you're going to be knitting one of my patterns....hahahaha gulp!!! Petra somebody said they came to my podcast thanks to you so sending you many big kisses from across the pond. Love the podcast and the puppy, hope you have a great Christmas xx
Oh my gosh, your comment really made us laugh….. I kept repeating my laughter turned to terror… 🥰 Your sock pattern is really great, it was the perfect advent knit. Hope that you are having a lovely Christmas. Xxxx
I found your page while looking for beginner knitting tutorials and I loved your video! I crochet and have been wanting to learn how to knit for years but never took the time. I finally purchased some knitting needles today and can't wait to learn and watch your videos. ❤
I cannot get enough of your podcasts!! You remind me of my daughter (who does not knit 😹) and me! Of course we are both eons older than each of you! Before retiring, I taught English in a private Benedictine school outside Manassas, VA and I took my 8th grad class to BOSTON for 25 straight years! So I know Boston and love her dearly!! I would love to meet you both one day in person! So happy you are in Vermont and relaxing! Again, I love your podcasts and they can’t come often enough!! Have a blessed Advent and please podcast again before Christmas!! 🥰 Angela Gill
I love to see what you are working on! I appreciated the tutorials on the jobless stripes. I now keep a notebook at the ready when I watch your podcasts!
Not. Sure what I did below ! As I was saying… loved you chatting and sharing and quite understand putting the old ladies wonderful knitting to one side then leaving it. Think we all might be guilty of doing that at sometime in our knitting lives. Sure your holiday was fantastic the two photos looked lovely. I am knitting Arne and Carlos Christmas 2021 balls and using their Norwegian wool. Really pleased with how it is knitting up. Looking forward to your next update and thanks for the surprise in seeing you both here 🧶🧶🎄
I really enjoyed seeing your knitting projects. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of knitting. The tutorial of knitting stripes is much appreciated as that joining of colors probably keeps many of us from attempting striped sweaters! Also loved seeing the puppy and his antics! I also loved the idea of Advent knitting with a candle and cup of tea for company. Best wishes for a wonderful Advent season!
Nice to see you back, I am just now knitting the Wild Swan Shawl by Anne-Lise Maigaard & Nim Teasdale for the second time. My sister liked mine so much, she wished for one in natural color for Christmas, it should be finished next week, so no stress. Andri seems to be quite a challenge around yarn ...
What a fun way to enjoy my knitting afternoon. I love your podcast. I’m knitting a stripped sweater right now and Natasha’s tutorial was just what I needed since it is my first attempt trying the jogless join. Happy Holidays to you both.
Thank you so much Natasha for that tutorial. I have been knitting for a very, very long time and I just love learning something new. What a smart way to neaten up those stripes!! Thank you both for another great podcast.
thanks again for another great show - love Andri. I have two dogs myself and I know what they can get into. Luckily, mine are now 3 and 4, so are kind of past the stage of "let's steal mom's ball of yarn". LOL. Great tutorial Natasha - I'm going to have to re-watch that for sure. Happy Christmas to the both of you. Enjoy your holidays...
I really enjoyed this tonight. Thank you so much. I don’t have any friends who knit or a local yarn shop. Just started knitting seriously this past January. Have a wonderful evening
It's always a treat to watch you two together and see what you (and Andri ;-)) are up to! Your sweater looks great, Petra, and I think it's going to relax nicely, too! And Natasha, your stripes are amazing. Thank you for the tips! Happy holidays to you two! Cheers!
Thank you for all the fun Christmas knitting ideas!! Love the knit a sweater in a month. Want to do it all, I am knitting 3 stockings this year for me and my 2 pets- bunny and bird. Really enjoy your podcast and the fireplace setting is cozy!
Love the podcast as usual. Thanks for the inspiration for the little advent projects. FYI, a good source for the Norwegian Wool (all things Rowan and all things Arne and Carlos) is Fleece and Harmony in Canada on PEI. Kim also has a great biweekly podcast and is a flagship Rowan store. Always has great supply of yarn. On her last podcast she even talked about all the Christmas yarn (colors red, green and white) that she stocks. She is lovely, you will want to support her. They raise sheep, make their own wool and have multiple Rowan lines with every color and she also loves books and is a great source for that as well (all of Arne and Carlos books, all of Marie Wallin books, etc). So glad to see that you have not given up on Primrose. Loved the "tutorial" on closing the gaps when changing colors.
Really helpful tutorial Natasha! Thank you! Enjoyed seeing both of your beautiful projects. I’m knitting the ballerina by Hanne Falkenberg. It’s a lot of knitting. Happy advent knitting to you!
Such a happy time when I get to share an hour with you two. Love the tutorial and color change along the raglan idea. Lovely background though I was getting a little anxious that the fire needed stoking -- as a kid it was my job to let my dad know when another log was needed!! Working on Arne & Carlos' Advent sweaters now. I'll only get the 4 for Advent Sundays done this year, I am about to start #4 later today or tomorrow.
Natasha, the striped sweater looks adorable! And Petra, the yarn on your May(be)queen sweater just looks it needs a good soak and block before it looks really nice and even. I would definitely block it before making a major rip decision. That sweater caught my attention some time ago and I might do it too! Thanks for another nice and cosy and warm podcast! Love from the Czech Republic!
@@knitink1044 Unfortunatelly, the covid restrictions this year closed down the outdoor markets. Some are allowed but no food or drinks can be sold to people to be consumed on the spot (only things you will bring home). That is a sorry state of affairs because I really enjoy this aspekt of the advent season.
Aloha Natasha and Petra! I just love checking in and seeing you two every few weeks. I am feeling homesick for new England watching you in front of the fire in vermont! happy Holidays!!
Hi Mimi in Hawai!! thanks so much for watching. would love to see you when you come and visit NE. happy holidays to you and your. please say hi to Liz.
I love spending this time together. And now getting to know the newest member of your family is a delight. You guys always have so many interesting things to talk about. Natasha, I hear you when it comes to your Primrose. I started a Lerwick at least 3 years ago and only got about 1/3 before I lost steam and put it into the back of the WIP/UFO bin. Good for you for sticking with yours but it could’ve been much more enjoyable, for sure. The information about your “jogless stripes” was very helpful and absolutely the first time I have seen this approach. Good on you! Keep after Norwegian Wool. You owe it to yourselves. I’m sure that I’m forgetting lots that I wanted to say but know that you are making a great contribution to the knitting podcast world. Bravo! Shirley
Lovely to see both in holiday mode too we re recovering from storm Arwen and our holiday home park was demolished and many homes were flattened but have heard ours is ok but driving there at weekend to check it out it’s at the seaside hope u enjoy rest of ur hols
I loved seeing your beautiful sweaters. I especially loved the white one with the twisted ribbing down the arms. Your puppy is super cute too. Rachelle in Seattle
I love hearing about all your knitting! Natasha, thank you for demonstrating how you close the gaps when you change color in striping! It is genius and I will try it next time I do a stripey project!
Always a pleasure to see you ladies. Enjoyed seeing all the knits. Im currently in the process of finishing all my Xmas socks for the family, planning on making each family an ornament with my sock left overs so they will have an ornament and sock yarn that matches.
Oh. Please keep podcasting!! Love your videos! I am busy making beanie hats for 10 grandchildren for Christmas. There are sooo many nice patterns so its been fun. I also have the Tincan knit hat pattern on my to make list! Loved seeing you finish object!! Forgot to say where I'm from! Mclean, Saskatchewan Canada
@@knitink1044 I knitted another one for my son’s friend who had a lockdown birthday, so I couldn’t get to a shop. I knitted the one with the wrinkled up hat - soooooo adorable! Have fun. :)
I found the book ELLE in my local library many years ago and ordered it from a second-hand shop -paid 10cents for the book. The first pattern I made out of it was "One-Man Bands" also in Patons Classic Wool also in purple, with orchid and red - still have it and occasionally wear it. You motivated me to make another pattern from the book: "Cabled Shift" as it has been in my queue for a long time and I still love it. Thanks for your podcasts. Jacki
Another wonderful episode full of content! Once again, you’ve inspired me. I also bought the A&C Christmas sweater ornaments (but realistically doubt I’ll get to them this season). You’ve also inspired me not to knit a Marie Wallin sweater, but will find another/similar type pattern with more clear instructions. I also started the same stranded mittens you showed, Petra, and like you, got as far as a couple of mittens. The thumb was very fiddly. Wishing you and your entire family a wonderful (and minimally stress-free) holiday season.
Your podcast always brings so much joy to my, especially in these days! Thank you so much. I really like knitting „with you“ 😊 i am knitting socks for my father in law. Best wishes from Austria.🧡
Love watching your knitting channel. A suggestion to try on your garments more often during knitting… if you have a couple of needles the same size … knit half the round onto a new needle ( might need to use more depending on the cable length). This way you can try it on at strategic points to make sure it’s fitting how you’d like. Keep up the great work 💚
I started those advent mittens too and the thumb drove me crazy. So I went up a little bit on the size and I made them without thumbs like baby mittens that you make to keep them from scratching themselves. You can send them off and the parent can hang them on the Christmas tree. The sock and the mitten on either end of a crocheted strand would make a good bookmark. Marie wallen patterns are so beautiful but I saw some of them on Rowan magazines through the years and knew that I wasn't up to knitting fair isle flat. They would be so much more marketable if they were not quite so difficult to execute. Rowan magazine charts have to be enlarged and cut up in order to use them so she is coming from a background of a very different style of tech editing. Seriously get the knitting barber cords and you can move everything including your stitch markers right on to the cord try the thing on and then put it back on your needle or rip it out depending upon your result. I bought them for friends for gifts and gave them early because they are so useful.
Love your podcast. I feel your pain knitting with a curious puppy! I have 3 adult Border Collies who still want to check out my knitting and yarn! I’m presently knitting the Douglas Cardigan and quite enjoying it!
Lovely episode, as usual! The puppy is adorable and you are so patient with him. I am doing an advent with little stockings, but have downloaded the sweaters from A&C too. I have the mitten one as well. Hope to get at least one completed for next year, before the grandkids grow too old to appreciate them I like the idea of mixing them up- more variety in the knitting. The gnome advent looks cool too. I will have to look into it. I am madly doing gift knitting hats with bling for the granddaughters, socks for the grandsons. A red sweater dress for my 4 year old granddaughter. Can someone slow the clock down so I can get finished please? Thanks for the tutorial on fixing the colour shifts, Natasha. Great solution. Good luck with your many projects and have a wonderful holiday season!
Lovely makes from the both of you! I am going to cast on an advent sock for myself, have never knitted advent one for myself, but you have inspired me to cast on. Looking at the Colour Palette Socks, free pattern on Ravlery!
This is the first time I’ve seen you, and I very much enjoyed your discussion. I’m subscribing! More, please! I too am knitting Primrose and have a couple of my own little frustrations with that. My biggest one is that Marie’s schematic is kinda garbage. It would be awfully helpful to know how long the yoke is supposed to be, or at least the length from cast-on to underarm. Of course, you can use the row gauge to more or less figure that out, but couldn’t she just put it into the schematic, the way virtually every other designer does? And like you, I’m worried that maybe the yoke fit will be too long, and there’s no way I can know that for sure until I finish all the knitting and blocking. A proper schematic would be so comforting right now. Let’s hope that we emerge from this semi-mysterious experience with something we love wearing.
So glad that you found us and couldn’t agree more about the lack of schematics!! Marie Wallin has amazing designs but they’re not accessible to most knitters. One has to be an advanced professional like Andrea from fruity knitting! But we’ll keep trying.
I’m currently knitting the 2021 Christmas balls by Arne & Carlos, using their Norwegian Wool. Love it! Ordered through Webs. Check out their discount if ordering multiple items. REALLY good prices! All the best!
I was tooooo late to webs, they have sold out of the red and light grey. A&C have sold out again too of the Christmas colors. I’ll have to be patient. am working with what I have in stash for now.
@@knitink1044 it’s a fun knit anyway. I’ve already knitted through #19 of 2021 set. Will start on 2020 set, which was never started, after 1/1/22. Happy holidays & good health to you all!
Instead of buying the knitting barber cords, get some pony bead lacing at Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Joann’s. It’s the same thing and is sooo much less expensive!
@@knitink1044 I really enjoyed it - I had to make myself put it down because I have some Christmas gifts I need to finish. Thanks for your podcasts I love to see you both.
Hi girls!!!! Sending tons of love from Lima, Peru 🇵🇪 LOVE your channel, you two have such a nice vibe going on 😻 Also knitted shawlography haven’t posted the picture yet, I’ll tag you as soon as I do that! Right know I’ve put all my WIPS aside and just knitting Christmas gifts like crazy!!!!
I just finished knitting on an older Marie Wallin pattern, but I have to say that the pattern writing is really not up to the standard we see nowadays with many designers. If it wasn’t for the visual effect she can achieve with her colours, I would really not want to knit her patterns. She actually uses a pattern writer, but that person must be some ex Rowan employee because this pattern I just made was written in exactly the same style. I know there is some excessive spoon feeding in some new patterns nowadays, but trying to work out sleeve shaping in a Marie Wallin pattern is like breaking morse code. I have the Primrose kit, too, but I am thinking to plug in her colour work into a tin can knits recipe. Love you both! 🥰
plugging the design into a to can knit pattern is a fantastic idea!! I gave the tin can knits book too! with instructions to make your own coir work sweater!! so much more accessible!
Oh for tubular bind off - I think Italian Bind off is the same? If so check out the Drops UA-cam video. For some reason the rhythm of this video really simplified it all for me and it finally clicked. Now my favorite bind off where i was sooo overwhelmed before. Hope that helps! Thanks for the great podcast
The tutorial was great!...can't wait to try that technique. It would be so awesome if you posted the tutorial as a stand-alone episode do that it will be easy to reference 😁
You're the only other person I have heard use 'activation energy' in this way. I usually apply it to my adolescent nephews. One of them is also our family's 'rate limiting step'.
Petra, I don’t think anyone will notice the extra increases in your sweater - I think it will be just fine, especially after blocking. Thanks for a very enjoyable podcast!
I didn't buy the barber cords as they are not very long. I bought the pony bead cords off amazon as advised by the needles at the ready guys. I got 6 3metre length cords for £6 + they are exactly the same.
Love watching! You mentioned Knit Picks. What are your favorite Knit Pick yarns? I want to make more sweaters but yarn is so expensive. Would love your thoughts.
Have you guys tried sending a message to “fruity knitting”? I believe she (the mom) has made this sweater or definitely she’s made the Marie Wallins sweaters. You may have already done this but I am just hearing this :)). I enjoy your channel!
@@knitink1044 She really is and I thought for sure that Primrose was the sweater! Check her out!!! (Episode 34 I think might be your sweater) :)))
You may want to consider going down a needle size. Fruityknitting knits lots of Marie Wallen sweaters. Contact her or check out her podcasts. Good luck!
this is petra replying. I did teach natasha to knit but my mom didn’t teach me! I wish she had because we would both be faster continental knitters now!

I’m doing Sarah Schira’s MKAL too - I did her MKAL7 in September and looooved it. I hope you enjoy it too, Natasha.
It’s so fun! I want to knit all her gnomes now!
Jacki
Oh so fun you are knitting from that book, and what a deal at 10 cents! Happy knitting :-)
Sound like you have the same knitting goals we do ;-) happy holidays to you and your family too!
Your podcast always brings so much joy to my, especially in these days! Thank you so much. I really like knitting „with you“ 😊 i am knitting socks for my father in law. Best wishes from Austria.🧡
Thanks for watching!
Love watching your knitting channel. A suggestion to try on your garments more often during knitting… if you have a couple of needles the same size … knit half the round onto a new needle ( might need to use more depending on the cable length). This way you can try it on at strategic points to make sure it’s fitting how you’d like. Keep up the great work 💚
Helpful tip, thank you!
Happy holidays, what a beautiful getaway spot. Working on Christmas socks tonight here in Central Illinois.
greetings to you in illinois, thanks for watching.
First one to the party!😁
Thank you both for another lovely podcast! I'm taking part in the Gnome Along too, my first one! I absolutely love advent knitting!
I’m loving the gnome along! Glad you are knitting along too :-)
I started those advent mittens too and the thumb drove me crazy.
Thank you for the tip!
Love your podcast. I feel your pain knitting with a curious puppy! I have 3 adult Border Collies who still want to check out my knitting and yarn! I’m presently knitting the Douglas Cardigan and quite enjoying it!
Love border collies! And that’s a fun pattern too :-)
Lovely episode, as usual!
Thanks for watching and good luck with all your gift knitting. Sounds like you have quite the knitworthy family! Happy holidays to you all!
Lovely makes from the both of you! I am going to cast on an advent sock for myself, have never knitted advent one for myself, but you have inspired me to cast on. Looking at the Colour Palette Socks, free pattern on Ravlery!
Happy advent knitting!
Happy Holidays! I knit a sweater in November and never entered it...oops
@@knitink1044 BTW, I loved your technique for blending the color changes in your stripes! Will have to try it with a swatch sometime. Take care!
Instead of buying the knitting barber cords, get some pony bead lacing at Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Joann’s. It’s the same thing and is sooo much less expensive!
what a good idea!! I broke down and ordered a couple of sets on Black Friday! but next time, pony bead lacy g it is! thanks.
I enjoyed seeing your shawlography knits on Instagram - still trying to finish mine. I'm working on the last few stripes. Happy holidays to you.
those stripes took forever didn’t they? how did you like your first westknits mkal? merry Christmas to you all. xxxx
@@knitink1044 I really enjoyed it - I had to make myself put it down because I have some Christmas gifts I need to finish. Thanks for your podcasts I love to see you both.
Hi girls!!!! Sending tons of love from Lima, Peru 🇵🇪
LOVE your channel, you two have such a nice vibe going on 😻
Also knitted shawlography haven’t posted the picture yet, I’ll tag you as soon as I do that! Right know I’ve put all my WIPS aside and just knitting Christmas gifts like crazy!!!!
We hear you on the Christmas knitting!
Good tip, thank you!
The tutorial was great!...can't wait to try that technique. It would be so awesome if you posted the tutorial as a stand-alone episode do that it will be easy to reference 😁
Okay, good to know, I’ll try and do that! Glad it was helpful :-)
Love your podcast. I cast on Stephen West's Dustland Shawl last night. Using Miss Babs dk weight Yowza in color Blusher
You're the only other person I have heard use 'activation energy' in this way. I usually apply it to my adolescent nephews. One of them is also our family's 'rate limiting step'.
ahhh you must be a scientist too!!! I use rate limiting step too, usually trying not to be one. 😀
Petra, I don’t think anyone will notice the extra increases in your sweater - I think it will be just fine, especially after blocking. Thanks for a very enjoyable podcast!
Thank you!
I didn't buy the barber cords as they are not very long. I bought the pony bead cords off amazon as advised by the needles at the ready guys. I got 6 3metre length cords for £6 + they are exactly the same.
Good to know, thanks!
Love watching! You mentioned Knit Picks. What are your favorite Knit Pick yarns? I want to make more sweaters but yarn is so expensive. Would love your thoughts.
I’ve used wool of the Andes and city tweed. Both were enjoyable to knit with and worked well for sweaters!
Happy Holidays lady's! Maybe we can someday get together and do some knitting! I live in the NEK of Vermont
I wonder how much blocking is going to help the Prim Rose sweater.
we hope a lot!! natasha has finished it! stay tuned for an update.
❤️
Is Andre an Australian Shepherd? If so, they are wonderful, fantastically smart dogs.
He is, a mini!
Have you guys tried sending a message to “fruity knitting”? I believe she (the mom) has made this sweater or definitely she’s made the Marie Wallins sweaters. You may have already done this but I am just hearing this :)). I enjoy your channel!
Great idea!! thank-you, Andrea is a phenomenal knitter.
@@knitink1044 She really is and I thought for sure that Primrose was the sweater! If not another podcast that I follow is called “Stitching Over the Days” she does some really intricate designs and she is a phenomenal knitter and she’s fast too! Not sure how she does it!! Check her out!!! (Episode 34 I think might be your sweater) :)))
Petra, Your cream sweater looks great! The underarms are not noticeable at all. Just put a long, pretty necklace on with it!
You may want to consider going down a needle size. Fruityknitting knits lots of Marie Wallen sweaters. Contact her or check out her podcasts. Good luck!
Good idea, I should rewatch some of fruity knitting a little more closely!
@@knitink1044 Yes, she is a colorwork demon.
Giving the pup a yarnie toy when you have knitting projects is a bad combination. They can’t tell the toy from your project.
Good call, thank you!
Did your mom teach you how to knit?
this is petra replying. I did teach natasha to knit but my mom didn’t teach me! I wish she had because we would both be faster continental knitters now!
Another enjoyable episode and I especially enjoyed the dog antics!❤️
Once again, Thank You for such a wonderful podcast!!
Love your podcast.
