Embedding an object in Clear Resin

- A short demonstration of embedding a small pewter casting into Clear Casting polyester Resin, a common method in the production of small decorative items like paperweights items of jewelry and the presentation of artifacts.
A layer of resin is first poured to the level the object is to be placed, then a second layer poured to cover the object completely, multiple objects can be embedded at many levels by increasing the number of resin layers.
I've had my horses' tooth for 40 years and want to make a necklace with this stuff. it's pretty: beige and dark chocolate. Nice design and shape to it.
I need to put 2 rolls of pennies in a block of resin for my greedy useless son to inherit so he can't contest my will.

I made my first one and it turned out quite well. But, do you have a video on how to sand it down and polish it?
Star with coarse sand paper like 500, after trimming down rough edges, then work your way up to about 2000 grit and polish with a small buffing wheel on a dremel.

You make the mold yourself with silicon. If you want that big of a mold I recommend wrapping a brick in clear packing tape and pouring the silicone over that
What are the names of the products used.. everything I see takes 24 hours to harden

What if i want to create a resin object which is partially embedded, but partially not ? like sticking out of the resin if that makes sense
probably fill your mold halfway, let completely dry, and then put your object in place so its sticking out and fill the rest

I suppose that depends on how fragile the object inside is, if it is easily breakable good luck but the metal dog in the video yeah you can cut into the resin, might be difficult

What is this "pressure pot" you're talking about? I'd love to know more about that and how to keep bubbles out of the mold. Thank you for the video, beautiful stuff you're making here!
Pressure pots can be used to make air bubbles decrease in size to hide them, vacuum chambers can be used to expand the air so that it escapes the material entirely giving you a completley bubble free material. mix slowly and carefully and you should avoid most air bubble problems.

If I'm using an acrylic bowl, how would I go about demolding? Is there a demolding agent I can use for acrylic? some suggestions were packing tape or Vaselene.

I have no experience with resin. I want to surprise a friend with a mini trumpet in clear resin. I was wondering if I could use a wine glass and leave the resin in glass permanently. Please help me if you know the answer.

I would say so. I am assuming you could use the wine glass as your mold but leave it in there. I like that idea.

@@miamonroe4431 it might work, the thing with most resins is that it will shrink while setting. A resin that does shrink will not work in your case. Maybe do some research into brands of resin to see if any dont shrink at all.

It is handmade using a silicone rubber, a ready made plastic mould woudl also work.

If you do that to, lets say, an apple, will the apple rot after some time or will remain intact? Thanks.
Organic material can be tricky, the moisture may prevent the resin from setting properly, even if successful there is a risk that it will rot and crack the resin, general advise with organics is to partially dry first.

supose that i would fill a 5cm deep and 5m wide "hole" with resin on my balcomy with a bothom of river pebles... would it crack over time climate and our wheight or would last forever and look like a real river?
It depends how you treat it, if you leave it in harsh climates and leave it out all the time then it will break, if you put it inside in bad weather and only leave it out on sunny days then it will last forever.

@@Trahan.400 hello, I used a random epoxy I found at a store ( make sure it hardens hard) and i left a bolt with the correct pitch and thread and it worked and turned out okay, all depends how much time u spend to make sure the bolt is straight and the epoxy hardens all the way. hope this helps!

Hi. If I want to embed an object into coloured resin (using India ink) is it difficult to get the shades the same so 2 halves don’t look split ??. If so how would you recommend I do this please 🤔💕

put the object on a very thin coat of resin, and let that cure. then fill the rest with resin.

Yes, drill slowly or the resin may melt/burn.

be positive pour the resin in slowly after adding the object... did you not watch the video??
How did you get rid of the bubbles?
just careful mixing and pouring is enough to prevent air bubbles, the resin used is polyester which is better for bubbles, two part polyurethanes can gas and create air bubbles when setting.

Only if you have a lot of money.
I have this same question.. not really asking about the money part rather the feasibility and dangers that might be involved.
You would need to be very careful with the catalyst, to much you may have a fire, way to much will cause an explosion. Anybody who works with fibreglass will be able to assist you in expanding your knowledge. BE CAREFUL.

I think the idea of the mold is to be made of a substance that does not adhere to the resin.
