@Mattscreative I am using Linux since the 2.4 days in 2003 and played games on it when people still laughed at nerds even trying. If you want to make people interested, you do it slowly by giving them similar experiences and easy entry point. That includes a system that is easy to handle if something screws up. Pushing newcomers through wikis and terminals is the exact opposite.
So, let me get this straight: you're considering the past when talking about today? Today, when things are 100 times easier and more straightforward? This is the issue with long-time Linux users-they often fail to learn and adapt. I have taught people Arch Linux faster than any other distribution, period. It's simply easier to learn compared to anything else. As an entry point, you want people to learn, and installing Arch from scratch is the best learning experience a new Linux user can have. It teaches essential skills that everyone needs. Arch Linux is beginner-friendly now, and those are the facts. Times have changed, and the Linux ecosystem has evolved dramatically. The barriers that once existed for new users are now much lower. For instance: Interactive Installers: Tools like the Archinstall script make the installation process more accessible by providing an interactive installer that guides users through setup. This script can automatically configure your system based on your preferences, balancing simplicity with customization. User-Friendly Distributions: Distributions like CachyOS enhance the user experience by offering optimizations and tweaks tailored to your specific hardware. With Profile-Guided Optimization (PGO), Link-Time Optimization (LTO), and a customized kernel, CachyOS boosts performance and efficiency, making it a solid choice for both new and experienced users. The Linux community needs to catch up with these advancements and stop holding back the growth and adoption of Linux by clinging to outdated myths and resistance to change. Embracing modern tools and distributions allows us to create a more inclusive, efficient, and dynamic environment for everyone. It’s time for the Linux community to evolve, let go of old myths, and contribute positively instead of fostering a toxic environment. By embracing these modern tools and distributions like Arch Linux, its Archinstall script, and CachyOS, we can help the community move forward and attract more users.
@@MegaManNeo arch is 100% a beginner distro if you actually want to learn Linux. Took me a week of tinkering and learning and browsing forums and by the end I knew enough to actually feel like I could confidently solve anything that came my way.
@@Waterspells That has nothing to do with being a beginner or someone who just needs to a tool that works to get stuff done. You describe someone who has computers - more exactly Linux and programming as hobby. Just try to be an average human user for a moment and you understand that those don't like to read a damn wiki page to get their PC doing things. They don't necessary want Windows or macOS or Android either, just an environment that lets them use their browser, play games, do office things and move files perhaps. Arch is overkill for that and only good in Valve's hands at best.
I would like to use CachyOS on my main gaming pc but I can't install it because I can't get wifi and I need to install a driver for wifi but to do that I have to install the os and I don't think there's no offline installer. So I'm just using PopOS which works great but I think I do need something newer. Does anyone have an idea how to help me? 😅
On Windows nothing touches Nvidia. Nothing. And it's not close. On Linux the AMD experience is so much better than Nvidia it would require a 6 hour video to cover it.

I dont think its true, that many multiplayer titles dont work because the developers dont care or hate valve. Afaik the biggest problem is that these games use kernel level Anti-Cheat i.e. Riot Vanguard, BattleEye etc. And these are only compatible with Windows. To develop Kernel Level Anti-Cheat for Linux is just not worth it for the companies, as just a tiny fraction of Gamers use Linux and its not worth the investment at the moment. I hope in the future with the rise of SteamOS and Linux in general it will become viable for companies to invest more in Linux compatibility. Best even would be to ditch kernel level anti-cheat, because fuck that shit.
@@schnidselmitbommes9099 kernel level anti cheat has existed and is compatible with Linux and has been for ages as you have complete and another access to the kernel. A huge misconception in the linux community is that it it’s just not supported or it doesn’t work but the truth is the developer didn’t bother to press the button and give it Support. It sucks to hear but it’s not about investing anything it doesn’t cost any money nothing needs to change for the game itself to support Linux or the anti-cheat it’s just the developers think that all Linux users are cheaters and don’t want to click the button.

I dislike Spotify's quality settings also, but even having Tidal is a bit bitter on linux as we just can't have bit perfect without something like Strawberry (Tidal streaming there was borked last I checked and it was never perfect anyway). What do you use? Any streaming at all? I've got my flac files too which I'm happy with, but that just isn't the same offer that streaming platforms can offer yeah...
For quick stuff cider 2 apple has it's own format that isn't compressed at all and musicbee with vinyl rips of hi res masters
I believe the chapters are completely wrong. Was the video description copied from your "Exploring CachyOS: Desktop Environments [...]" video and forgot to be changed? 😀
i removed them
🙂 if you research all the preloaded video game hard drives on amazon and ebay it looks like a Linux Distro is already included on the drives 🐢
And they’re also filled with viruses so you can go ahead and do that, but that’s not a recommendation for anyone only a fool would bother
Are you using Zen Browser there ( the Z icon in the bottom dock ) and if yes how good is it ?

I have had an issue with Guild Wars 2. May be because I am using Lutris with Wine-GE-8-26 but sometimes I cannot click icons in the game. I don't have the Steam version of Guild Wars 2 but maybe I can try Proton?
I installed CashyOS in October of 2024 and it's been quite nice.
use proton ge 20 wine ge is dead
@@Mattscreative Cheers man.
I tried cachy on a 5900x.. It was great. Ithen put it on my 7800x3d and it was crazy bad constantly locking up, so I put it back on nobara. I like cachy, it was my first try on arch. I wonder if their kernell is 3d cache optimized or it I need a certain one?
You went from v3 to v4 that requires a reinstall of the os so that was on you sadly
@Mattscreative it wasn't the same machine, so it was a fresh install. Will it pick the right kennel?
ya that's an odd bug best talk to the cachyos devs about that
I'm about to upgrade from 5900x to 9900x. Using the setup from the gaming/content creator videos... How would I go about switching to v4? They appear to be different repos if I'm not mistaken
head here and rerun this install script in the read me github.com/CachyOS/linux-cachyos or reinstall
As someone who *isn't* a gamer on Linux, what's the "Pascal" thing you were talking about at around 5:35?
nvidia-open doesn't support older cards so 1080ti and back
@@Mattscreative Ah, the implication being Nobara uses nvidia-open and thus doesn't support them, hence your retracted recommendation?
yes and cachyos auto detects older cards and out thems on closed
Still need to get that SSD installed and try this on actual hardware.
haha do that today!
@ Mainly just can’t stand my computer being off long enough to do it.
DOOO it
SpeedRun it :))
Have you figured out controller support for Stalker 2? Feels very smooth on a 7900xt with Nobara, no hiccups, I think your just experiencing the lackluster nvidea linux support. Frame time graph for me is literally flat well over 100fps native 1440. They patched the mouse thing already. Apparently its an xinput issue.
@@Lockwood360 not had any issues with Nvidia or feametimes or stutter it's just the game being ass
@@Mattscreative Well its true that Nvidea doesnt perform as well on linux. The game performs very well for me being on AMD, i dont seem to suffer the same issues.
It ran the same as windows 😂 so it's just a game issue not a Linux Nvidia issue
I'm pretty new to Linux, but as far as I know, there is Debian, and there is Arch. I use btw.
Debian you would want pikaos4 linked below and for arch cachyos is best

is it gnome /cosmic?
Is what gnome /cosmic? I run gnome 47 and this is my design no on else's
I wanted to put CachyOS on my new laptop, but dang.. it just won't run worth anything, it runs maybe 5 to 10 minutes and locks up. Totally unusable. Found out in testing, its almost all Linux Distros, not just Cachy. I finally got Fedora working without freezes most of the time disabling all C states, but that kills the battery life by hours... oh well, Windows works 100% perfect on it though, plus all the extra AMD driver options to throw upscaling and frame gen on any game at all works great.
That sucks I'm sorry
I tried switching today as my first arch distro but alas, all the things I had heard about arch and its derivatives are true. Installation failed three times for three separate reasons. Cachy has simply too small of a team and community to provide the amount of polish required for them to patch arch while innovating and doing their own thing. I'm going back to vanilla fedora/opensuse. Skipping bazzite because that distro has a whole different set of issues.
@@biskitpagla that is a lot of misinformation you got there wow
I was wondering whether I can run it on a cheap MSI thin laptop I got, which has a Nvidia GTx 1245 gpu with intel i5 11/12th gen...BTW, not all MSI laptops have M-Center support, like mine...Could someone let me know if I can?
you can run linux on anything
linux runs on anything so you shouldn't worry
I have CachyOS Running on my main gaming desktop with a GTX 1070 and it's running on 3 other laptops. One with a Nvidia GT 840m and a really old Acer with a Core 2 Duo 😊. Runs great on everything I have.
Arch is no beginner distro.
That's a you issue not an every one issue might wanna sort that out
@Mattscreative I am using Linux since the 2.4 days in 2003 and played games on it when people still laughed at nerds even trying.
For instance:
Interactive Installers: Tools like the Archinstall script make the installation process more accessible by providing an interactive installer that guides users through setup.
Head to the cachyos discord and see if they can add it in for you
@ Should I ask in support or somehow talk to one of the developers?
use the support channel of course
How about Star Citizen?

On Windows nothing touches Nvidia. Nothing. And it's not close. On Linux the AMD experience is so much better than Nvidia it would require a 6 hour video to cover it.
not really ive had better experiences on linux with nvidia than amd

Yeah sadly that one doesn't work. Lm-sensors can't detect the fans if there is an EC chip on the motherboard. I'll be careful from now on when buying a new electronic device and check it's Linux compatibility.
what's an EC chip?
@@fooboomoo pre-programmed chip to control the fans based on the temperature. Only the proprietary software made by the laptop's maker can interact with it or you have to reverse engineer.

I'm not a gamer I'm tired listening gaming gaming on Linux most people don't game just use their pc for work 😊
I use Suse nothing wrong with the distro
