Imagine ever going up to any rider and horse and actually grabbing the reins without even addressing the rider. Now imagine doing that if the rider is a uniformed member of the military. It's insane.
A cavalryman is the predecessor of the modern tank. His sharp sword, shiny armour, big strong horse, discipline and training were all designed to make him a weapon with a long, bloody, and successful record of charging at, mowing down, and destroying the people on foot who were unfortunate enough to be in the way. None of the cavalry and other military units that foreign visitors stand in front of and gawk at was designed to amuse any of them.
I honestly don’t know how these wonderful guardsmen put up with such ignorant people, who think it’s ok to touch/grab the reins of these beautiful but highly trained horses. You wouldn’t grab the reins of a Police horse on duty, so why do it to these stationary guardsmen. Serve the tourists right if the horse reacts violently, or the guardsmen shout out a warning!!!!
The Kings' Guards, since Charles is King, was trained under Queen Elizabeth the Second. They have been trained to keep the citizens at bay and people there should know better than to touch the reins.
Some people just do not understand the 'Do Not Touch' rule. The soldier has every right to shout at any tourist who they feel is endangering the horse or themselves. I salute all the soldiers of the Kings Guards you're doing a great job and I'm incredibly proud of them.
They are endangering the horse, the Guard and anyone else if the horse spooks. In this situation, the hors could tear or bolt. Tearing could cause injury to the woman, the horse should it hit something or both horse and Guard should the horse fall backward. If the horse bolts, them it's endangering the public and the horse and Guard, especially if the horse bolts into traffic. Yes there is. Blame the royal family and the government. They chose to present them as tourists sideshow attractions and petting zoo novelties, well that's what you get. @@solofemaletravelerme Most of your remarks will fall on deaf ears. I've never been able to explain an untravelled American's perception of the King's Guard. We don't see them on TV, the news, or know their history. We see them most often in the entertainment media, which never portrays them in a manner that would be acceptable here. I've seen them most often in a comedic setting. By this time, most Brit commenters, are already frothing and twitching. They can't understand that if a British police officer introduced himself in a french accent as Inspector Clouseau, and tried to say the word "hamburger"...I might, snicker, show unintentional disrespect. Because that's all I know. The author's of the Guard Channels bait their viewers with salacious headlines, and light the fuse by making an accusation. Then the echo chamber rumbles to life. I believe this is much to do about nothing. Of course there are people that are going to act out and the police or KG will need to step in and take corrective action, but the vast majority are just tourists being tourists, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I think the UK military believes their soldiers are capable of handling whatever a tourist throws at them without having a mental breakdown as the people here believe. Have you ever watched the television series that follows the 2 million Brit tourists that travel to Mallorca on holiday every year? I'm sure the Mallorcans don't bitch and moan about the disrespectful Brits on a dozen UA-cam channels. They just accepted that a certain percentage of their British guests are going to make asses out of themselves, and that life goes on. Which apparently it does not on the King's Guard channels.
Those are two completely different scenarios, Shenandoah Tim. Brit's in Mallorca are drunk and there to do that, act crazy, like Spring Break here in the U.S. The King's Guard's are a military unit, there to guard, so they definitely are NOT going to tolerate ANY abusive behavior.
@@donnabaardsen5372 My point was everyone on this site assumes foreign tourists to London are all going to comport themselves as if they are attending afternoon tea at a palace horse show. They're not. Unlike South Padre during break, many visitors to Spain are adults not college kids, and they act appallingly to the police and military. Which take it all in stride. What abusive behavior? The vast majority of negative comments are not addressed towards tourists knowingly abusing guards or horses. Just some perceived slight to a soldier that only a Brit would pick-up. Put on your US thinking cap. If we had uniformed secret service standing at rest in front of the white house where a tourist could stand beside them....And a tourist took a picture beside them, or accidentally touched the reigns of a mounted agent. Disrespecting secret service agents would not even enter the mind of an average american. If you went farther and the tourist did something like taking his empty bag of chips and tossing it on the ground. We'd say he was littering . Toss a soft drink at the agent, we'd say that's assault or obstructing, not disrespecting . You could drive a tank through that court yard at St James, squash everyone, and the Brits would say the tank driver was disrespecting the guards, the rest of the world would call it murder. If the UK felt their soldiers were being abused they would stop this, but most of the issues are minor and are not crimes. So the Guard takes them in stride....the people on this channel...they'd be foaming at the mouth.
I’m an American woman (old woman 😊) who spends anywhere between 6 to 10 hours a day on horseback working a cattle ranch. I use 2 horses a day. Grabbing a horse’s reigns is exactly like reaching over and grabbing the steering wheel out of the driver’s hands. Also these horses have bits in their mouth and pulling down like that “person” did can cause pain for the horse. Personally, I have never used a bit on any of my horses no matter what I am doing. I ride only with a hackamore, which is a padded harness. My horses trust me to never guide them into danger. Even crossing a creek, or riding in Parade. The thing I find most amusing is that most changes come about due to concerns for tourist safety, and has nothing to do with protecting the guards.

Believe it or not, people do stupid things like that with Mounted Policemen.

It's sometimes, amusing to see people here, getting in each others way, when trying to pose for a photo. They look so silly.😄
Why the need to mock them? They are on holiday, having nice time, and spending their money in our country! Haven't you ever been a tourist?
@@deborahwylde1410 I am talking about the chaos here.
Would any of these "tourists" accept, being touched by a stranger in public !
I wish someone will touch them.
Thick and rude!
I don't know. Its worth a try. I like a good fight.
Maybe…….
In China, we found people were quite comfortable coming up and touching our baby.
These lunatics would be happy to be dragged away if a horse was spooked. Use what little intelligence you may have and DO NOT TOUCH THE HORSES.
Colleen the toy soldier is a tourist attraction, if they wanted tourists not to touch the horses they would put up signage to warn them in multiple languages. You just barking like a lunatic at them by going all caps is a further display of your lack of intelligence. Have you not considered that many people are not used to horses other than petting zoos where the encouraged to touch them .
Sigh... You're allowed to touch the horses. The guards obviously allow touching as the thousands of people that do touch the horses don't get yelled at.
@@steamdespair9189 .....Would you like to hold my hand as you seem all doom and gloom ?. Would not like people pestering and touching me all day in a petting zoo with somebody squatting on my back . very backward and primitive to force such a wonderful creature to be abused each and every day .
@@steamdespair9189 woo-hoo, pay attention. Don't touch the REINS. You can't control the horse.
@@steamdespair9189 Not being from the UK I could never figure out how if one doesn't speak the language and doesn't know the local customs, which of course are not posted, and one does obey the signs....you somehow disrespect the guard.
When you scream, you've lost control over the situation. On the other hand, a strong, clear and controlled voice exudes authority without being amusing.
That older woman has no respect. She tried repeatedly touching the horse. And was warned 3 times to get back and stop. Elders are supposed to be wiser than this.
The signs should be pictorial, there is no language barrier in a picture.
That's a very good idea! 😊
Like the way the guy in the red sweatshirt just took a selfie with the horse 😂
Looks like another normal day there again. Things will never change to protect the horses and guards 💂.🙏
I have been riding for 50 yrs and l can honestly say lve never had anyone grab the reins. Wst on earth is WRONG with these people?
These poor soldiers and horse .l feel so sorry for them
Thanks
I think that it would help if the sign was amended to read ' Do not touch the horses or the soldiers'
Or anything at all!!
@@joanfourie1753 In how many languages? The chosen letters are known in most languages, a certain type of control freak wants to be in charge.
Why do people think it's OK to grab the reins? This is a serving soldier doing his job.
I'm always amazed that no-one seems to thank the guard I know he can't reply but thats no excuse for rudeness.
Three times she got yelled at and three times she came back for more! What the hell is wrong with that woman?
Dumm....
It’s like grabbing a drivers steering wheel. Absolutely stupid.
Really wish there was a sign saying “£100.00 immediate fine for anyone touching or interfering with the King’s officers or horses”
Just ban the public from the area. Keep the gates closed and let the guards do their job because some people have not two brain cells to rub together.
To be fair the guard is there for the pomp and ceremony for the tourists. The real guards are the Met Police's armed SO14 which you can clearly see in the video. However, that doesn't excuse arseholes grabbing the horses reins.
Unfortunately, the gates cannot be closed as it is a public right of way through to Horse Guards Parade.
They really have no idea why you can't grab the reins. The notice board needs to change to a picture board with red crosses. They are lucky to even get near them!!!
Whenever I've gone past there, people have given both horsemen respect and kept their distance
There should be a great big sign “DO NOT TOUCH THE HORSE , THEY ARE ON DUTY. KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELVES” how would you like total strangers walking up to you and slapping you on the face, neck or shoulder whilst you’re trying to work?
This guard takes no tourists messing about he gave her enough warnings
Ich hätte viel Respekt und sogar Angst vor den Soldaten. 🙁🥺 Die Soldaten machen einen guten Job👍👍
The sigh after the shout said it all.
They have made these soldiers and their mounts into a freak show. Shame on their government and law enforcement for allowing this to continue.
If I ever get to London, I would love to photograph the King's Guards, but posing next to them as if they were inanimate objects is incredibly insensitive and rude.
Some people never learn
I don't understand why so many people grabbed the reins.
They try and do that to a ranchers horse here or at the rodeo they better be ready to throw down. That's the one thing you do not do especially without permission.
They likely don't know a thing about horses, or they'd realize that it can confuse a horse because the horse gets signals from people handling the bridle (such as "follow me," "turn this direction," etc.) Then the horse doesn't know whether to obey the person grabbing its reins or the person on its back. For the people doing the grabbing, I'll bet they see the horse as nothing but a photo-op prop, and they don't know that there's a difference between touching the horse's skin and touching its harness.
I'm from the UK and it's common sense you don't touch the kings/ queens guard while they are on duty if they are doing the change of guard don't get in their path as they will push you out of the way. They take their duty very seriously and are trained to act that way because you could grab the bridle and make the horse freak out and cause injury to yourself the guard and every one around you
What is wrong with these people? They need to create barrier preventing the public getting too close.
It's a crying shame that the guards and the poor horses have to endure so many ignorant, disrespectful idiots every day.
Such rude tourists.
Thank you for all these vlogs not only are they awesome to watch but “”Should Be Very Informative To Those Of Whom May Watch Them Please Have Respect For These Royal Guards And There Horses””❤ From The USA
THANK YOU U.S.A. LOVE FROM THE UK
I would be so happy to get a photo of the Guard sitting on his horse, why is it so important to be in the photo with them? Only reason I can think of is to brag to everyone that you were there, and you know, who cares! People need to be more respectful when they travel. How these Guards deal with this everyday they go to work is amazing, they must have lots and lots of patience.
It's easy to tell which people have never spent any time around horses because if they had they would not touch or grab at the reins, the bridle or the breast collar
Prayers for the Guards and their beautiful horses.
