  • Hours at Warp - A Star Trek Fan Production was a project filmed and edited within the 2021 Lockdown conditions of the United Kingdom.
We are currently in the final week of an Indiegogo to create 5 more full short films, as of release of this film we are at 70% and will end on the 31st May 2021. We are getting close to our goal but we need your help! If you want to see the main 5 shorts and other mini shorts then please support and help us fund more fan Trek content!
    www.indiegogo....
    Please support!
Covid struck production of Trek Shorts in May 2021 and a schedule filming day had to be changed on the fly. Because we lost Nimran but still had Marcus come to the studio, a brand new and unexpected short was written in his 2hr car journey to the studio and was subsequently filmed over that day.
This is a bonus mini short for all the fans of the Trek Shorts project and brings back Marcus Churchill as Sam Harriman for the first time in front of cameras since 2013 and for the first time in a finished film since 2019.
This short follows Ensign Sam Harriman as he heads back to the Enterprise, this is mean to be a simple day in the life mini short and also connects certain fan films together though dialogue and guest appearances.
Enjoy and donate to the Indiegogo if you can!

haha! Well we know he has his First Contact uniform but I wanted him in the brand new Voy Uniform I got for him. I also wanted to make sure he was still on the Enterprise rather than his earlier ship...so..it all fit with that little reference ;) plus it makes a bitter sweet end for fans that recognize that!

@@SGUDistantHope it's funny they're called Voy uniforms when they were designed for ds9 as more of "roll your sleeves up" workmans overalls kind of uniform
I guess ds9 jettisoning them for the first contact uniform meant voyager was free to claim the title

@@cdname47 Indeed, its easier to say Voy since DS9 used that shoulder colour uniform...but also sometimes used TNG uniform...then moved onto FC uniform. So..just keeps it neat and specific haha.

@@SGUDistantHope yes I loved the shots of the shuttle and the idea people on comm channels aren't instantly able to reply almost before they've heard your hail like you get on TV lol
A shame though the TNG shuttle is so boxy...I know there's no aerodynamics in space but they always looked slow for some reason.

@@SGUDistantHope My only issue is that the Enterprise went to the Amargosa after a Distress call. Not really time to spend dallying for a shuttle to pick up. A more accurate way to tie in with Generations, might have been to mention Worf's impending promotion.

I think where everything is provided for federation citizens I'd say you could probably just get your own cargo ship telling them you want one and that you will be you know you will run cargo for the federation and I wanted to have its own holodeck and you know it's got to have weapons at least phasers you know be mostly automated maybe have a crew of six maybe 10 if most be fully automated though you'd have a bunch of them little robots to do any maintenance work on it exocamps or whatever Starfleet robots they have or holographic crew with your own holiday on boardCaptain Cisco's dad had his own restaurant I want my own cargo ship where I want my own holiday deck attached to my house and then you know I could just play like I had my own cargo ship and the holodeck

This is fantastic, I’d love to see some more stuff like this.
Short little stories with minimal cast required, based on some event that is somewhat equivalent to what we’re used to in our everyday lives, just with a bit of 24th century mixed in.
This was a great mix of some lore, a character we’ve seen on your fan productions before, and a long lonely journey that a lot of us can relate to. Absolutely brilliant.

This was a nice little short trip into the TNG universe. I love your CGI, Sam, but I was just a _little_ bit disappointed that we couldn't see trough the shuttle windows like we did in "A long way from home". They were black here. However, I just love Star Trek fan films in the (post) TNG era and this was another sweet one. And it was nice to hear Robin's voice as "Lieutenant" Richardson. And I liked the little easter eggs like the mentioning of Commander LaForge and the Armagosa Relais. I'm really looking forward to seeing the other short films.

Nice slice-of-life piece. One of the issues I've always had with TNG era Trek is how the Starfleet personnel seem to see space travel as mundane and uninteresting. I mean, they have to have holodecks on the ships to live out their fantasies and dreams. Distractions. In Star Trek First Contact, the Enterprise is sent to do a scientific survey of the neutral zone and discovering a comet is somehow uninteresting. The officer in this play is looking for ways to avoid boredom while racing through the galaxy at warp speed. Nowadays, we see views of the Earth from space and we marvel at them. We see pictures of deep space from the James Webb telescope and the whole world is awed by them. Is space travel in the 24th century going to become so routine that it will no longer be amazing or even interesting to us? Will we need distractions because life aboard a starship will be boring?

Alternate ending- just as the shuttle is about to enter the shuttle bay, the Enterprise- without warning- jumps into warp, leaving Ensign Sam Harriman alone in deep space. Now, a new set of problems arise, when the sudden jump to warp causes an energy surge that takes out the warp engines on the shuttle, and Sam finds out that he now has nearly an hour of life support left, and even though the nearest Federation outpost is only ten minutes away at sub light speed, he finds that he must navigate through hostile territory and could be attacked by Klingons, Romulans, Borg and maybe even the Breen.

If I have only one bit of constructive criticism, it's that there is a lack of ambient sound. No engine noise either outside or inside the shuttle when we should be hearing the warp engines. Also no beeps we normally hear when one interacts with the computer via voice command, or in the background (watch an episode of Voyager or TNG when they're in the shuttle....there's always little bits of noise to remind you that things are happening in the background with the computer and shuttlecraft systems)....little things that add to the immersion we all feel when we're watching an episode of TNG. Other than that, great work and I'm excited to watch more of what you've produced!

    • @SGUDistantHope
      @SGUDistantHope  2 роки тому

      Hey! Thanks!
There is in fact constant audio engine hum in the shuttle, its low in the mix as to not interfere with the voice track. It is hearable on headphones but maybe not on all speakers. Always a tricky busyness with that levelling.
We do add sleeps to some of the button presses but not all, its some what dependent...they didnt 100% of the time do presses on the show.
The space exteriors i go with the firefly approach sort of. I do weapons fire/warp/shields etc but i am not a sound designer and do not have the ability to produce the ambient space FX for every type of scene with the whooshes of a ship passing etc. IT would be a very large job for anyone to come onboard and do that for the 20-+ shorts in production and no one has stepped up.
Because of that, we go for the more quiet approach ala Firefly and maintain a standard of quality though out. If a audio engineer wanted to volunteer and could give up the time required then id love to add all that stuff.
Check out the other various Trek fan films on this channel! This was written and filmed on the same day and released within 7 days...so was quite a whirl wind to get it produced.

Top Marks Samuel. Looks legit on a scale of one to 10 you get a ten. Great story and equally so visuals.

love the aspect ratiro you use, use of musis is perfect and you've blended everything together wonderfully. Only wish you had more angles shooting at once, so you could edit those angles together.

Indeed, this was a semi impromptu short and limited time to shoot on the day. More angles are always good although in the end i actually limited my edit here between the angles i did have because it made it feel as if Marcus was having to say each line at a time...but in reality he could do long takes and really sell the moment!
      Glad you enjoyed it!

@@robertwheeler5125 This was written and shot on the same day, to make the best of a day where an actor cancelled but we still had the other.
I wrote it while they were in the car to the studio and was created as a "Bonus" short for our Indiegogo.
its very much a "day in the life" and also shows one of our lead actors at a different point in their life and a little about how they were.

There seems to be some rather large fake film scratches/hair at certain points, at 0:43, 1:31, 4:47, et al. It was a bit distracting.

Indeed there were, that's part of my post production process to make the VFX less CGI and more "real by adding imperfections.

That is some what part of the point, showing the boredom that warp travel can be...and what this specific character would do. It's very much "a day in the life" style of the short and acts as a character piece for Harriman and brings back Robin from his fan film series!
