That last Benjamín's look, and his half open mouth...I just melted and I am all over the floor. I am obsessed with him, he is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen.
He really is VERY underrated!! Been listening to The Cars alot lately and for some reason I really started listening to the guitar and he really is excellent.
@@troyowens2903 Stupid comment, that goes for that dope's comment above yours, there's nothing underrated about The Cars. They had Hit after Hit after Hit.
The music of my youth. Graduated in '79 and this was a breath of fresh air after listening to disco for much too long, this was only the beginning of their journey.
The Cars were and are one of the greatest bands of all time. Best ever band out of Boston. Elliot is smokin on the guitar, Ric Ocasek was incredible...best rhythm player ever, my fave was Ben Orr, and of course Greg Hawkes is a genius keyboard player/song writer and the drummer David Robinson was like a human clock he was so on. The first Cars records were released on vinyl and they got worn out quickly in my house from repeated play.
Am I the only knew who thinks this group AWESOME?where are the comments ? where is the Love for these guys . Im disappointed.Im sure there are many of us out there that remembers the Cars.
They're so awesome, every other band fades into second place. The greatest band of all time, Ric, Ben, Greg & co rock my world. And I'm frustrated! Where are the books, CDs and all?
These guys nailed the young mans angst of "growing up", or at least dealing with it, in the late 70's and 80's. Their first two albums were giants in my cohort.
Benjamin Orr comes across as a golden god in most of these old, early performances: so talented, perfect pitch, and almost painfully sexy. Wow. (I was 11 when this was filmed, so I failed to notice his gorgeousness then lol).
Elliot Easton Is my favorite lead guitarist of all time. So melodic and so much feeling he puts into his parts. Every one of these guys are a blessing to music history.
I saw them about 5 times...the first time there were only 50 fans at the show. The encore, they played songs over as they only had one album out at the time. I am glad when I grew up, Concerts were cheap and long.
I've just been watching a bunch of live Cars videos and they are such a great live band. In that late 70s/early 80s era, there was so much amazing new wave/post punk coming out of the UK that it was easy to overlook the pop genius of our boys from Boston. But they were brilliant, and their songs sound just as current and awesome today as they did then--not dated at all. Benjamin Orr truly was one of rock's most gorgeous men--I had such a massive crush on him in middle school and high school when most of their great albums were coming out. I hated those stupid teen fanzines like Tiger Beat, but if Benjamin was on the cover, I'd buy it just to be able to gaze adoringly at his picture for hours upon end. Such a talented and good-looking man--and I'm a sucker for blondes and rooster shag cuts. (The Police were my other Tiger Beat cover stars.) It was so different back then when it came to being a rock'n'roll fan--no computers with social media and UA-cam to provide you with such constant and instant access to your rock idols. They retained more of an air of mystery and cool because they were more untouchable back then. You really had to hunt down stuff on your favorite rock stars, and you bought every album and 45--none of this streaming a "Car's station" on Pandora, or buying a single for $.99 on iTunes that lives on your smartphone. Nope--you went to Tower and got the album, and then had all that awesome large-format album art, lyric sheets, and if you were lucky, a gatefold or a poster inside. I still have my embarrassingly massive vinyl collection--I guess I'm turning into one of those old farts!
Oh yeah! Ben Orr was one hot rockstud! I clearly remember oogling over his back cover photo on the Candy-O album, with him sucking on that lollipop! And I was like fuckin' eleven years old! And I'm a dude!
What a loss to this world - Ben & Ric you rocked it like nobody's business & made the best music ever written. RIP - I hope I see you in the next life.
Caught them in Boston about this time at the Paradise, a small club in the Back Bay. By 1978, Disco had all but laid waste to good, new music. The Cars came along like an oasis in a very dry Rock & Roll desert. Miss ya, Benjamin. Trust you're rocking, wherever you might be, my friend.
Comedian Steve Sweeney-'If this is Paradise send me to Hell!' I lived in Symphony Hall in '81 and never went to 'Spit', but went to see Alan Holdsworth at the Paradise.(He showed up too late,I left). I can't believe how good The Cars sound from a recording pov,are you sure that's from 1979?
I was at the same show at the Paradise. In three days at the Paradise, I had seen The Cars, Blondie, and a local band, the Atlantics headlining each show. The Cars were good, but a boring stage presence compared to the other two. The Atlantics really were the best of the three. But they could not translate it into a recorded presence.

They cut it short .Missing the great second guitar solo at the end.Think this may have been recorded before the final cut on the album or even before release of the album. Other live performances of this song have it.
But the Cars fans know he's a guitar master, and there are many of us! Have you ever known a Cars fan who felt Elliot was a weak spot, or disliked the solos? Of course not - every fan knows he's a source of great strength and a key to their success! And it's not just the solos -- everything he does through the whole song is important. Ric adds his own thing on guitar, too. Elliot did a lot of the rhythm playing, but Ric has a cool style, and wrote some good riffs too. A great guitar team.

Elliot Easton is the king of the 10 second kick ass guitar solo 🎸💥

🎉I would have been crying and singing if it was today 😂😅
He was the Andy Summers of the band - humble guy and they wouldn't be as great without him
Easton was a criminally underrated guitar player. Not flashy but always perfect within the context of a song.
