Enjoyed your review, thanks for putting it out there. I need a 417ES, I'm a big McQueen fan, and I love my watches too. I like the fact that these are manual wind, it gives you plenty of opportunity to regularly interact with your watch. Love the curved hands. Apparently it's a bit of a lume monster too..
Most welcome. Thank you for stopping by to say hello. I've got a handful of McQueen references in the back catalog, a couple Mustang Bullitt ones too that you may enjoy. Big fan as well. You might enjoy the Vixa Type 20 episode as it is 95% of the original Hanhart McQueen watach from 1957. You are correct about the lume, lights up like a torch! More Hanhart content coming as well as I grow the relationship with Felix at headquarters. Can't go wrong with any of the modern variants! Have a great weekend! All the best, D
Thank you for stopping by to say hello! They are a great brand. If you end up going the preowned route and would like me to look at a listing with you, hit me up on Instagram. Happy to assist. There are some replicas out there so watch out and happy hunting! All the best, D
Excellent review D Steve McQueen is my #1 favorite actor of all time. Followed by Burt Lancaster and Charles Bronson. I wish Steve would have wore his Hanhart in The Getaway. I'm definitely leaning towards the Panda since I have a few black dials
Great review! Do you have any experience with the Hanhart bracelets? I think they look great but would like to how they are before ordering one.. Keep up the good work! Cheers.
Thank you for stopping by and the kind words, much appreciated. I haven't gotten my hands on one of the modern bracelets just yet....Felix is going to be sending me one soon once they catch up from their holiday rush and I'll be doing a full review of it so stay tuned. I am normally a bracelet guy, however, my hanharts live on either my leather straps or canvas straps from Haveston. I expect the bracelet to be a good addition. Just checked their website, I don't see the 417es bracelet there yet. where did you see it? thanks!
Great review! Wondering if you can ask Felix at Hanhart whether there's any plans of re-releasing the Admiral 417es with blued hands? If I may also suggest a re-release of the Pioneer Mk1's & Mk2's: 1. in the original manual winding calibers to shave some millimeters off the thickness and 2. also add soft iron core (Faraday cage) to enhance the magnetic protection. I already have two Hanharts. Kudos to the Hanhart. Thanks again for the review.
hey tony! glad to hear from someone who loves these watches as much as I do. i will pass your question along to him and circle back with a response as it comes in! all the best, D
@@HobbyOfHours Thanks D! Nice of you to pass the message to Felix. Like you, I also have their Mk1 Monopusher and the Red Lion. But the Mk1 has been missing wrist time since the arrival of the Red Lion due to my modest 6.75in wrist.
hello! I reckon a point of reference relative to an hour marker or minute marker. My understanding of the flyback function itself was for zero time loss between waypoints. With the chrono register being 30mins, hours may be a more likelier use case for the bezel marker. best, D
@@HobbyOfHours I appreciate your quick response. I imagined that with the bund strap it would look wider, but without it? I have read that since the l2l is small, appears to be very wide, my wrist measures 18cm
@@javiercano6506 most welcome at that size you pull off either variant size wise. The 39 will look amazing on wrist with or without their epically good buns strap
Have no fear brother, you will wear it amazingly well. My wrist is only 16.5cm and I pull it off easily. The bund strap is perfection for the 417. Looks equally awesome on my Haveston straps and single stud flieger. @@javiercano6506
I'm thinking about finally pulling the trigger on one of those beauties but i can't decide between the "regular" black 417es in 39mm and the 39mm flyback models... Visually i prefer the original with black sub dials but a flyback chronograph at that price point is kinda hard to pass on too🤔 Would love to hear your thoughts, i already have a white dial smp 300 and this would be my first chrono.
Hello! Having owned several Hanhart models over the years, and admiring the flybacks both modern and vintage, I'd wait for their next release. Expecting them to release an all black flyback in the next year or so. You can't go wrong with either, however, the flyback (in black) is the true reissue of the McQueen 417es. If you want a flyback AND want it to be vintage, get a Vixa Type 20. It's 95% of the McQueen watch. 4.5k generally vs. the 2.5k of the modern Hanhart. My two cents! Best, D
@@HobbyOfHours Thanks alot for the advice! I think i have to wait for an all black flyback, as that's what i really want. The Vixa type 20 is pretty cool but i personally prefer new watches :)
Makes sense, especially with a chrono, especially with a special feature like a flyback. Hold out for the variant you are after. It's coming. Best, D@@Mick.Taylor
I have a 7.25 inch wrist but am pretty convinced the 39 mm fly back is what I am after. I assumed it would be the reverse panda given the allure of seeing the lume on the sundials, but visually, my gut is telling me to hold out for a future all black 39 mm fly back…ah decisions 😊
@@encol7953 Hey, I just wanted to let you know that Watchbuys, an official Hanhart dealer in North America, is offering the all-black 39mm flyback 417es exclusively and in limited quantities. It's currently still in stock, but unfortunately, as a European living only 70 miles from Hanhart headquarters in Germany, it's not possible for me to order it as this dealer doesn't ship outside the US. 😢 I really hope Hanhart offers this model themselves soon.
Hey Tom! Thank you for stopping by to say hello. You can't go wrong with any of them. Amazing quality to price ratio. If you can pull off the 42mm, there are plenty available in the used marketplace as well. Happy hunting!! D
I got the 42mm reverse panda FB. It's the only watch I ever had that non-watch nerds comment on. Seriously, most people can't tell one watch from another. This one get appreciative comments. It makes me a little uncomfortable, to be perfectly honest.
Glad you're enjoying it! I haven't gotten a "non-watch person, non-watch meetup event" comment on a watch since 2007 when I was at work and wearing a Nautica watch on a thick leather strap. Woe is me. LOL. Merry Christmas and happy new year! D
Hi D, have you seen the latest Indiana Jones movie yet? There was cameo by a certain chronograph with a distinctive red pusher worn by the famous Danish actor Mads Mickelson.
Hey Tony! I have not. I usually wait until they come out on streaming. I will take a look for sure now. I was surprised the Hamilton watch was not manual wind tho. Missed opportunity I figure. I only know of one red pusher watch!! Have a great Sunday! D
@HobbyOfHours Ironically, it was Mads Mickelson's watch that would play an essential role in the movie, more so than Indiana's quartz Hamilton Boulton. Yet Mads Mickelson's watch didn't get any mention. I still can not confirm whether it was a Tutima or a Hanhart.
