- Vauxhall Insignia VXR 4WD review and drive car Video.
I've spent the past week or so driving this Vauxhall Insignia VXR, I love the fact that it's 4 wheel drive as well. It started off a bit dull then i got thinking. As a standard car it's actually really nice to drive, quite powerful and it's such a nice thing to look at. I'm in love with it overall but there's just something missing..... More explained in the video.

Needs to press vxr button
Driving the estate for 7 years. Before I had the vectra OPC remaped. The vectra was much quicker with 300 hp because of 300 kg less weight. After a few month I remaped the Insignia. Now it gained 30 hp but the torque went up nearly 30% and that‘s what really counts. Still there are lots of faster cars but on the german autobahn it‘s a very fast and relaxing car
You have come so far calv listen to that sound quality 😂😂
This colour on this car is so nice...
Looks beautiful man...awesome
I have a stage 2 insignia vxr and ask you re do the review as the car is a total animal now .. happy to lend for the day calvin
I do agree about the power delivery. Went out to buy the insignia vxr but on test drive was disappointing in its lack of drama . It just didn’t feel quick . Actually ended up buying the Astra j vxr. Just as nice looking, in and out , just as high a spec, more fun to drive and tbh just felt quicker 🤷🏻♂️
No astra vxr is anywhere near the siggy vxr. I've owned both. Bad points about the vxr insignia is road tax and fuel. But to compare the astra is like comparing a nova to a lambo.
Owned one of those few years back, I agree to everything said in the vid. But have to say a friend of mine recommended an APR tune, stage one plus, which gained about 30hp and 80 for of torque and boy that thing turned into a beast. They are great cars but you must at very least remap them to enjoy them.
Cool video mate
Nice one brov I love the vxrs I have the older one in black witch I like because of the shape is much nicer
Gone mine remapped for performance and fuel and believe me once you press that button BOOM
Perhaps the Insignia VXR could have done with a bit more power considering it's weight but my Dad has one and he absolutely loves it. He still has a 2002 1st Gen XKR Convertible which he bought new, has had several XJ's, a Bentley Brooklands, a new Porsche 996 Carrera 4 and a new 300ZX Twin Turbo back in the day so he's had some pretty nice cars too.
Courtenay Motorsports have a great reputation but their remap sounds like it'd give this car very diesel like characteristics. Looking at the torque and power curves, it just look like a slightly higher revving 535d. Surely we want a petrol car to rev?
Heavy though....thats gunna blunt the edge off even with 320bhp.
Are they like 1.8 ton?
I have one and love it - but I do agree that the factory tune is very bad. Don't really understand why they would make the torque curve as it is. Get it remapped, it makes a world of difference.
Can I ask who re mapped yours?
I don't think this guy put it into sport mode never mind VXR mode.
I have an Astra J VXR & it pulls like fuck.
Bro I'm so glad you made this vid I have a gtc vxr full engine mods putting out 380 bhp but I prefer the look of the insignia and I personally think they grip so much better to the road I been thinking of trading it in for one thanks for the advice also I have pm you on insta cos I have messaged you a couple times on post for advice as my gtc needs a little bit of work on her
I got a Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer elite 2016 2.0L absolutely love it looks amazing so many optional extras ect but when i first got it I thought the power to the engine was a lil shit as well lagged a bit n was like noooo what have i done but then I thought maybe it's the fuel so last resort I tried shell V Power Diesel and wow what a difference in results she just loves the shell v Power. BP Ultimate she didn't like it and I never use cheap fuel so maybe might be same sort of issues with this 1 lol 🙈🤞. I Love Vauxhall's only Brand I spend my money on now n im keeping my Vauxhall Sports Tourer Forever Now that's it found my car carnt wait till the finance is done lol. Im ganna map that her and get stainless steel exhaust all the way through about all she needs lol🙂
Need to press the sport or vxr button to get the most out of it
Interesting review mate. I owned a corsa vxr and that needs a remap tbh. Always sad to see some negative comments on here
Which corsa ?with the centre exhaust pipe or a single pipe on each side?
@@bigmoney4685 same engine
Hi calvin did you ever do a review on a astra h vxr if so could you send me the link please
Just search for it
He's not wrong, i've got a MY16 Insignia VXR.
Factory tune is rubbish because the engine is boost limited to protect the transmission (especially 1st and 2nd gear), then boost is capped off at mid range, so the engine is gimped out of the factory.
If I remember right, max boost on the insignia is only 9psi. The Vectra with the same engine and a remap boosts to 15psi and without any 1st or 2nd gear limiters. The advantage the insignia has is getting the power down, Vectra is fwd only.
got stage 2 on it 375hp better fun now
I hope when you buy one of these that you don't expect it to have "brutal" power delivery like a Mercedes AMG. There are a few better sportier cars that this car is supposedly up against, like the B8 audi S4 that is faster, has a better interior, and (in my opinion) looks better. However that car is almost twice as expensive and absolutely not twice the car! for what you pay I really can't see anything that can compete with the insignia OPC/VXR. I just got one today and I love it, I am a bit annoyed that you can't raise and lower the passenger seat, but maybe that is just me beeing stupid? I honestly struggle to find bad things about it!
joel kjesbo hi mate I've had mine a year na and it's great, the passenger seat does go up and it's got a electric button on the side facing the passenger door there's a button and a lever there actually mate to make the seat go up and down same as the drivers seat, you will love the car mate I've done alsorts to my car and everything I've done has made it quicker and better to drive ive got ocd lol I'm a proper clean freak, but had so much fun, enjoy ur car
jonathan braham thanks mate! for some reason I had overlooked that specific button
joel kjesbo glad u sorted it, any help I can give u send us a message pal, have a read of my review on here pal and enjoy ur car ul love it.
A good sprint booster would do the same for a fraction of the price
Mines awesome too had it a year na been great, best thing u can ever do tho is have an engine carbon clean £99, ive done that and gave the turbo a good clean out too with turbo cleaner, also put a k an n air filter in airbox and only run on vpower mines fast as, when I got it was alot slower due to obv little bits that needed a little clean due to age and mileage , just little things I've done and mines 100 percent well happy, also standard these are 0-60 in 5.6 seconds, mines an ex cop car with stage 2 software on it, and does it in 4.8 seconds r just over with the push of the vxr button, it's the astra vxr mk5 that does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds as I owned one before this car !!!tip for ya turn the heater off before u switch the engine off then when the engine starts next time the heater doesn't come on full then it's not annoying easy as that, mines not slow put it this way and power in every gear is awesome obv people don't think and carbon clean engines but do it ur car could be loosing bhp my insignia gone from fast to stupidly quick !!!!!!! u need to drive an insignia vxr for ur self other than watch some1 else drive 1 and do a video,ps note he never pressed the vxr button are the sport button and says the power delivery was not good if hed av pressed the buttons would av been a different story, mines not lack of power and also ive let half a dozen of my friends drive it and not one said the lack of power is letting the car down and mines standard till the vxr button is pressed which u don't need to touch it's quick enuf!!!!!!!! not bad for a 2 tonne car trust me! drive one for ur self obv that car wasn't performing right and something was wrong, performance is strong in every gear and surge of power is instant in mine and mines standard till the vxr button is pressed, the car in the video is totally different to mine and that's 100% u can tell !!!!!! carbon clean ??? mine made loadsa power after a clean instantly. and also u cant compare a v8 jag to a v6 insignia different engine altogether lol, watch all the other insignia vxr vids on utube, I did and all good no probs at all.
Stacks more potential... which you unlock with a remap. I've got a Signum 2.8t v6, 280bhp factory, around 310bhp stage 1, and it's a wild animal!! Vauxhall made an amazing engine with the Z28NET, it just needs to be released from its chains 😉
A signum with 280bhp stock?? You sure? They never did a stock signum vxr, the vxr Vectra was the only one after around 2005-2006 to get that engine. Signums got 230 and 250bhp. Unless uve changed the engine from a late Vectra vxr of course.
Also Holden designed and produced the engine, then it was shipped to Saab for them to turbocharge the engine. A joint venture.
I have a stage 1 mapped vectra vxr and it goes like stink !!
Looks nice , but I agree is abit of a let down ..
I got into the car.. to see how it feels.... great materials, everything seem to be well screwed together.... well made, nevertheless that bloody armrest persuaded me to not buy it. It's stupid & UNCOMFORTABLE! You should have found another place where to put the cap holders..... when I drive i want to relax.... bmw series has proper armrest, audi, passat even skoda! why do I need to stay so cramped because of the armrest's design... really?! Passat ultimately was my choice simply because of this. I need to COMFORT! Even the Opel Astra has a proper armrest rectangular and uniformly built.
you do know that boost is limited in 1st and 2nd gear right?
remove the limiter in the ecu and the Insignia really is everything you EXPECT it to be
Exactly what I did in my Signum 2.8t, and it has unreal torque.
@@ellisrobinson6926 is it the same for the signum 3.0D?
@@vladk163 with the diesel versions, I believe the restrictions come mostly from the gearbox, as first gear really is only designed to get you moving, but in 2nd and 3rd gear you will feel a real difference! My dad had his 1.9 diesel Vectra 150 remapped, and it was shockingly quick. Revved up to 5000 rpm and beyond! 🤣
@@ellisrobinson6926 i have the pre-facelift 5-speed af33 auto I love the car it has almost every option you can get but I'm thinking about first mods any tips? Suspension brakes exhaust tunes?

Thought he said he’s driven all the vxr range and that the insignia is the only one with the 2.8 well the vectra vxr has the same engine
The vectra was replaced by the insignia though
The vectra is better looking and isn't tied down with 4wd.the insignia is nicer inside and that's from someone who owns a vectra vxr 😂
@@stevewood7230 i agree with you mate. I also own a Vectra VXR and it just has more character
@@asifnoaman8978 The power to weight I reckon is much better on the Vectra VXR, pretty sure the Insignia VXR is like 200-500kg heavier
@@MrRohanThomas yep, it is significantly heavier and the fact that Vauxhall had to compensate that with an AWD system is such a shame. It wasn't much quicker than the vectra. The Vectra VXR was quicker than its main rivals including the Mazda 6 MPS which has AWD
Always wondered if re-mapping will affect insurance?
Gordon Weston it will if you tell them.
Depends who you`re insured with. Shop around.
@@benlee2765 Not necessarily.
Don't tell them can't tell by looking at a car if it's remaped
@@arransinclair5076 Stupid advice.
Had to turn the volume right up on this video, audio was bad.
Change the setting take it off auto
3 years today
awesome as pure usual! for a 300+bhp 2.8 v6 turbo, the performance figures as standard are pretty disappointing :/ everything else about this car is spot on
David Banner especially when you consider the vectra vxr is a 2.8 v6 turbo mine has 40bhp less being the 280bhp version but is faster to 60 and a higher top end than the insignia and doesn't handle anywhere near as bad as top gear made out
6:15 totally disagree with that lol you do NOT want a throttle pedal which immediately delivers full BHP from 0 revs
its because of the useless gearbox as well. connected to an audi stronic box that would be a 5.2 - 5.5 second car easily.
Probably right there, although I did find changing gear a nice experience. Check out my VXR review: ua-cam.com/video/s1zo-64AYTo/v-deo.html
3.0 v6 omega (manual) can do 0-60 in similar times and still do 160 with ease. not bad for 211bhp.
I remember when the police used to drive those. Everyone used to call them kilos not sure why
Not possible, stop telling bullshit
An insignia vxr would piss all over a 3.0 v6 omega... I used to own a 3.2 gsi vec so similar power now have a 2.8 vec vxr and I'm sorry but they don't even compare !
@@geeteebloke1979 Ok, my modestly mapped 3.0 v6 diesel vectra is is as quick as a vxr from 0-120mph, how about that?
My omega is quicker than my vectra from 100-150. the omega gets from 90-160 in no time, its such a beast after 100 mph and unless you have actually compared them you cant say this or that. A 3.0 manual omega will do 0-60 in 6.5s and top out at 160 (gps) so as I said, not bad for 211bhp. (I dont remember saying they are quicker than a vxr)
@@Soulvex so you are saying your 3.0 omega is as fast or faster than a vectra/insignia vxr with the stats you are posting? OK 👌 I'm pretty sure a standard vxr let alone a mapped one will leave you for dust.. my 3.2 gsi was 211bhp and as much as I liked it the vxr is a lot quicker.. have owned both still have a stage 1 vec vxr.
Lovely car the vectra with the same engine is better to drive 280bhp going through the front wheels feel like your driving the car

@@DreamCarGarage1 lovely motor
I see you have a silver Vectra vxr at binca 😮 any chance of a review 🫣
When Citreon took over opel in 2008 the cars went to crap. Opel used to make solid reliable cars.
It might have the biggest engine but it's also the biggest car, ever heard of power to weight ratio....don't think you have, and just because it's got 320bhp doesn't mean it's going to be quick to 60mph, it's Torque lb-ft, is the pulling power, that is what gives you 0-60mph times.....you don't seem to know what you're talking about
it's not the "torque" figure per-se, it's the power delivery, the Insignia VXR's boost limited to protect the transmission, hence you get the lack of oomph at the mid-range, which ruins the experience.
Power is torqueXrevs
Cry more hahaah
The vxr8 has the biggest engine, these people r supposed to know there cars?
Ever heard of a gearbox? It’s a torque multiplier.
My dad has one of these in stage 3 580hp
absolutely no chance its stage 3 and 580bhp. no chance its 580bhp all together mate

he's spot on. My 130i annihilated one from some lights over about 1/2 mile, then again from another set. I was surprised. They aren't very quick standard for a 320bhp car.
Isn't it a hatchback? not saloon 3:09
Nope that one is a saloon can tell by the longer boot lid.
get it tuned, completely different animal when tuned
The insignia vxr isn’t the most powerful vxr, the vxr8 is the most powerful vxr?? And the insignia isn’t that good standard, save half the money and buy a vectra vxr. Now that is a nice car. Same engine and it looks a lot nicer, for half the money.👍
try turning off the traction control noob...
'biggest engine out of the VXR's? What about the VXR8? you know... that 6.0 V8 beast? that's the only true performance saloon from Vauxhall if you ask me...
The monaro was a great car, then they dropped the VXR8 and it was an absolute weapon lol.
The ls3 6.2 v8 vxr8 is a beautiful car. And a nice mileage 2009 model still makes £21000.
